Otherwise I love eater for restaurant reccos especially in places with no Michelin **Developer response:** Sorry about the map glitch, that's not normal. It suddenly starts jumping between restaurants like it’s possessed, and I have to close the app. **Developer response:** Sorry about the map glitch, that's not normal. Thanks for your patience! ### 3/5 — Hmm *2026-03-09, version 2.6.0* Not being able to filter by what is currently open makes this app not very useful ### 2/5 — Hey where did all the lists go? *2026-02-21* The last update seems to have gotten rid of the deep archive of lists and the ability to search them, which was what I loved about the app. I come here for vetted, credible recs. Instead, there’s a selection of recent lists and an emphasis on Gen AI search and a social function that would need 10x more adoption to be useful. Now, the search feature has potential to be cool but the results aren’t accurate, and it’s unclear why some of the restaurants are included. Would love to see some citation and a link back to the list or article the rec came from. Also, the map is showing two markers for each restaurant. **Developer response:** Thank you for being a fan of the app. The deep archive of vetted Eater lists is core to the app, and we hear you on how important that is. You can still access them in the Eater Lists tab and we're working on surfacing them in search. We hope to have that done very soon. We’re also improving search accuracy, and the duplicate map markers are definitely a bug; thanks for flagging it. Your feedback genuinely helps us make this better and we appreciate your patience while we make improvements. ### 2/5 — Limited Functionality *2026-01-30, version 2.4.0* You can only filter what shows up through a deeply flawed search bar feature. Just let be filter manually by variables like price, type of establishment (bar/sit-down/counter service/etc), and cuisine. ### 2/5 — Ugh *2026-01-20, version 2.3.0* When you click on a restaurant after searching a theme, like “Italian,” it’ll go to the map, but not the restaurant… it just shows a random location on the map near downtown and glitches out. ### 2/5 — Used to rely on this app for Recs and now it’s unusable *2026-01-15* I had my gripes with the old app but it was still useable i logged on after a while and this new update makes it completely useless. I’m generally not a fan of AI but tried a search asking for it to give me options around certain cross streets (84th and Amsterdam) in Manhattan initially it gave me options in the city of Amsterdam and then when i specified New York it gave me options in Brooklyn and Queens? I also now can’t actually look at the restaurants in a radius through the list form which was the most useful part and have to click each tiny red button which is disorienting and just makes me frustrated so I closed the app and went back to Google maps. Less technological fluff, more utility please. I don’t need an AI search I need an easily accessible list/map when I’m on the go. **Developer response:** We appreciate you sharing this feedback. Any other AI app can do those searches ### 1/5 — Worst app ever *2026-01-10, version 2.2.0* I’m a big fan of the Eater website and content but this app is completely unusable. Doesn’t give me a list of restaurants when zooming in. I have to click on each dot to see the restaurant and then it frequently brought me back to my location, so I have to relocate to my destination. ### 1/5 — Can’t log on *2026-01-09, version 2.2.0* It keeps asking me to make an account even though I have one, and then puts me on a page with no buttons on it at all so there’s no way for me to log on. ### 1/5 — Bring back the old app! *2026-01-07, version 2.1.0* The new app update is terrible. It takes longer to scroll through articles, I can’t find older articles (eg brunch recommendations), and therefore can’t find the accompanying map. The search function is slow and totally unhelpful. ### 1/5 — Ruined *2025-12-31, version 2.1.0* This app used to be fantastic! Easy to use, navigate, and read. The latest updates have completely ruined it. Map resets every time you switch apps, even just for a second. Dots do not pop up as expected. And the “let’s find a great spot page pops upwards every time I click anything! It hung up. Finally deleted it and tried the process over again. It still got hung. We appreciate you taking the time to report this. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work well *2026-06-24* First time using tried “Koreatown vegetarian” since it has my NYC location. Gave me LA spots. Then tried “NY Koreatown vegetarian” and a few variants (NYC, New York) — kept giving me only LA results. This is a pretty basic easy search not to work. Thank you! ### 1/5 — Flashing Map/Uncontrollable Toggling *2026-06-15* I don’t know what’s wrong with this app. As soon as you select your second location from the map it becomes unworkable and is nonstop flashing and has to be closed. We hope to have it resolved very soon. ### 1/5 — You know what I don’t need *2026-06-10* Ai garbage. The search feature is apparently an ai agent and guess what? It’s terrible. All I want is to quickly find the same content you have on your browser site but I guess that’s not what this app is for. A quick search for “tavern style pizza” (a specific style of pizza in chicago) and I get to enjoy watching a bot “think” and ultimately recommend a bunch of places that do not serve that style of pizza. Eater has a list of places that serve tavern style online. Why is this so hard? Do not push badly implemented ai on us… **Developer response:** Hi, thanks for the honest feedback. We appreciate your patience and thank you for being a fan of Eater. ### 1/5 — Very disappointing *2026-01-26, version 2.3.0* I frequently visit Eater Chicago so when I saw that I could download the Eater app I thought it would make my life simpler. Unfortunately, it did not and I ended up deleting it. First, despite confirming Chicago as my home location and doing the search from a Chicago location (allowing location), when I typed in inquiries (such as “Vegan friendly restaurants near me”) I got a list of NYC restaurants. That happened with 3 different inquiries typed from a Chicago location. Second, there was no way to go to a Chicago tab to get the content I like on Chicago.eater.com. If there’s a way to get there it certainly wasn’t intuitive or easy. I’ll just stick with going to Chicago.eater.com for now. ### 1/5 — You asked *2026-01-22* I got a message from the developer about a review I left a couple months ago asking if I wanted to update my review. I had deleted the app because it was so bad as to be unusable, but I downloaded it again and found nothing had changed. Still unusable. Inaccurate location info, reviews that flash on the screen for a second before disappearing. It’s sad. This app actually worked well last year until some unfortunate choices were made in updating it. I’m deleting it again after I post this review. This doesn’t please me, my neighbor writes for Eater. It’s easy to save lists of places I want to hit and find recommendations on the fly. Also love leaving notes! ### 5/5 — Unstable, not useful *2026-04-19, version 2.9.1* For the wealth of information you guys have this is such a poor app. Stop focusing on all the animations and just provide the information. You’re dropping the ball huge. I can save all of my favorite spots, keep everything organized, and see Eater recs when I’m stuck on where to eat. It’s basically solved my “where should we eat” problem, especially around the Bay Area. I just check what Eater recommends nearby and go from there. Search is pretty cool too.
