## What is Eclipse Run?

Eclipse Run lets you pick the best spot for you to experience—live and in person!—Available in two languages (English and Spanish) it covers the eclipse of August 12th 2026 (From Iceland to Spain), and with Plan Ahead you get a bonus eclipse, that of August 2nd 2027.

This app shows maps marking the zone where you can see the total eclipse. In the middle of the zone, is the line of maximum totality (over 2 minutes, depending on the location)
The app now gives you the approximate duration of the eclipse at all spots within the zone of totality. 
The maximum totality for the bonus eclipse is over 6 minutes.

You just hold your finger on various spots at intersections between this line of maximum totality and a road.  A dot appears.

Next, by tapping on that dot, you can learn what the weather will be like at your desired location.  Plus you’ll get detailed driving instructions via Maps.  
On your journey, Eclipse Run gives you alerts when you enter the zone of totality, and when you cross the line of maximum totality.
It’s easy to understand. It will help you experience this miracle of nature—totally! 
The Plan Ahead feature, will give you even more information, such as historical average cloud cover and more!

It can only do 1 eclipse without premium 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

**Developer response:** Yes, it does one eclipse at a time, even with “premium”, which is not a subscription but a one time fee of $2.00 so I can pay for the weather info. Find another app that tells you when you are on the line of totality, gives you cloud cover probability, duration at any spot, help with booking, and let me know 😊 Or maybe you can make one yourself 😀 BTW, next release will have the next 2 eclipses…

I have used this app twice, first in 2017 and recently on April 8. Both times it gave me exactly the information I needed at the right time in an easy to operate interface. The ability to save the locations and choose many alternate sites got us to a great viewing spot BOTH times. Integrating the weather and traffic into the app made it perfect for my trip to Austin Texas. Great job! I'll use it again next time

The map obscures the area you are most interested in by reducing the contrast too much.
The map forces portrait orientation for no reason, which is a major pain because most iPad mounts/stands are landscape.

**Developer response:** The map is Apple Maps, and I have no control of the contrast.

That's another good app in this space, but it doesn't have a good map to show you where you want to be for the eclipse.

Shows you where the eclipse lasts longest, weather forecasts 15 days ahead of the eclipse, even directions to get to your chosen viewing location. And more. I’m not surprised it received high praise from the American Astronomical Society.

We used this app for the 2017 eclipse. We went to Wyoming and thanks to Eclipse Run found a perfect spot right on the line of totality, with crystal clear skies and no crowds.
Love the new features in the updated version. We’re all set for April 8, 2024.

This doesn’t even cover the upcoming near total, annular, solar eclipse 2023-10-14 which should be a great show in Texas. Bummer. 
Also, even after I paid for the add-on, I still couldn’t get any of the weather, lodging, or travel information that it was supposed to give me.  🤷‍♂️

Why is this thing even still for sale?!  I want my money back! 😡

**Developer response:** Eclipse Run now covers the total eclipse of April 8th 2024, which has not yet happened 😊 since it was free, no money back, but if it hasn’t updated automatically delete it and download the new version from the App Store. Note that you need iOS 15 or higher, and that Eclipse Run only covers total eclipses and not annular ones (with all due respect to the sun and moon)

This version, updates to the eclipse of August 12th 2026 (Spain and Iceland) it changes: icon and launch screen, plus now the average cloud cover is only for the last 2 years (going back 30 years with climate change, proved unhelpful in 2024), and we get an approximative duration even when not on the center line.
