### 2/5 — View daily usage

*2026-05-24, version 1.0*

Very poor graph. I suggest the developers take a look at the OVO graph as a benchmark. For me leaving OVO for Ecotricity it is very disappointing.

### 1/5 — Bring back the old one!

*2025-02-25, version 1.0*

One of the most appalling app redesigns I’ve ever seen. Every aspect of the UX is worse than before. Original app was pretty great - no idea why they changed it. Might change energy providers tbh.

### 1/5 — App not working at all

*2025-02-25, version 1.0*

Not sure if it’s a new update or what, but for a few days I can’t log into the app. Filling in from my password manager it maintains I have to enter a password. Copy and paste seems to work but app opens and shows a lovely green cross and nothing happens. After that I tried logging in on the website but clicking on the account icon opens the app with sale results as above. In the end I had to delete the app, after which I could at least log in on the website … I tried downloading the app again to see if that solves the problem. Alas, it did not. In other words, the most useless app I ever come across.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-02-23, version 1.0*

Can’t login. I get a blank screen like other reviewers.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2025-02-23, version 1.0*

This is the worst app I have used, or should I say tried to use.!!
As a new customer I wanted to make a payment into my account but I can’t open the app or get past the front page of the Ecotricity website.
Shocking and so frustrating to say the least..!!

### 1/5 — App is unusable will have to use website instead

*2025-02-23, version 1.0*

It seems the app won’t allow you to use a saved password from your secure password wallet, and since my password is very long and random I don’t have the patience to type this in manually every time I want to quickly check a bill. Will just use the website instead. Therefore the app is now pointless and unhelpful.

### 1/5 — Blank app

*2025-02-18, version 1.0*

No idea what’s going on here, I downloaded the app a few days ago as a new customer and after logging in the app is blank, nothing in it?!!

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work

*2025-02-18, version 1.0*

Not a great start as a new customer, App doesn’t even work and it just stays on the green flag background.

Might have to cancel being with Ecotricity as need a working app.

### 2/5 — Needs a lot of work

*2025-02-12, version 1.0*

As a new customer in Feb 2025 who’s moved from Octopus, I’ve signed up for the online account/app. The app is just a web view inside an app, not a native app it seems. It doesn’t work with password managers so when you autofill information it doesn’t recognise you’ve put it in. The app is very clunky and buggy.

For customers who manage everything from their phones nowadays, having a well designed and functional app to manage bills is a must. Sadly, Ecotricity are falling flat on that.

Please get your app developers on the case and invest in a good app!

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2025-02-11, version 1.0*

The App fails to launch as it should when signing in.

### 1/5 — So hard to use

*2025-02-05, version 1.0*

The payment link is buried under. Eventually when you find it, it took another 5-6 pages before it lets you pay.

### 1/5 — Can’t transfer account

*2025-02-01, version 1.0*

The new app needs you to reregister; reregistering needs your account number but the account number is provided on the bills that were available paperlessly in the old app. Result? Unless you saved a bill locally it’s now not possible to log in so there’s no access to the account.

### 2/5 — New, and downgraded!

*2025-01-23, version 1.0*

I agree with many others, that the recent change to a new and apparently upgraded app was very much a downgrade.
The new version is clunky and hard to navigate. The old one was much easier to use.
I’ve just tried to view my bill as PDF, which was almost impossible. Fine if you can read A4 shrunk to fit your phone screen, but zooming was a disaster. I could get the size right, then as soon as I tried to move it jumped and moved around and cropped out half of the page.
I’d recommend Ecotricity, just don’t expect much from their app!

### 1/5 — A textbook example of terrible UX design

*2025-01-19, version 1.0*

Apart from hobbling a lot of features in the old app (being able to access bills from a longer time span, removing the activity timeline that showed you everything in one place), it just takes a ridiculous number of click to do anything, starting with making me reconfirm which account I'm accessing when I only have one. Send your UX team (assuming you actually have one, since it seems doubtful) for some remedial training!

### 2/5 — Another disappointed user

*2025-01-15, version 1.0*

The functionality of the new app is not as good as the previous version. It’s harder to find and view bills, I just previewed a bill in pdf and it just doesn’t work properly on the phone. Needs improvement!

### 1/5 — Give us back the old app

*2025-01-14, version 1.0*

Sadly for such a good company a pig’s ear has been made of this (apologies to all pigs) and frankly the best thing to do would be to send whoever was responsible off for re-education, listen to all these loyal customers you’ve managed to exasperate by talking down to us and then delivering something worse than we had before, and reinstate the proper app we had.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Cannot log it

*2026-06-15, version 1.0*

Set up account and set password. Saved password in apple app. Tried to log in. Used saved password. App says password is wrong. Changed password. Saved new password. Tried to log in again. App says new password is wrong!

### 1/5 — Very basic - should try harder

*2026-06-02, version 1.0*

Doesn’t do much except allow you to submit readings and upload bills - I miss my ovo app which gives me stats and comparative data to me last year and other similar households. Come on - this is looking very out of date!

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-06-01, version 1.0*

Can’t even log in - sends error message saying user doesn’t have permission.

### 1/5 — Tish

*2026-03-27, version 1.0*

This app never works anymore takes the money doesn’t top up, takes ages to get money back

### 1/5 — Simply the worst app UX ever used!

*2026-01-22, version 1.0*

I have to agree with others - this is undoubtedly the worst user experience design of any app that I have used on an iPhone.

My suggestion is that you show your development team what a user actually wants from their app by using the excellent Fuse Energy app - trust me, you will win and keep me customers as a result!

Truly abysmal design and coding…

### 1/5 — Poor app

*2025-06-15, version 1.0*

PDF of bills doesn’t provide breakdown of unit charges and standing charge - just the amount billed (not even a summary of units used). The app also won’t provide a reading of consumption because it says I don’t have a smart meter. The Octopus app does this without a smart meter. Annoying that it asks for the address of the property you want to look at when there is only one property registered (it’s just another unnecessary click).

### 1/5 — Can’t register

*2025-05-13, version 1.0*

Asked to provide readings even though I have smart meters, directed to app, download but will not recognise my account details at registration. Note another review saying you have to register via a browser, but the app doesn’t say this and takes you round in circles failing to register. I really can’t be bothered and assume they will collect readings automatically.

### 1/5 — Awful

*2025-02-26, version 1.0*

The new app doesn’t seem to let me submit both electricity and gas meter readings.

Until you sort it out, you won’t be getting readings from me as per your email request.

Whomever developed/improved 🤣 your app needs to go back to the drawing board.

The old app worked, this one doesn’t.

Progress?

Me thinks not.

### 1/5 — Somehow they managed to make it worse

*2025-02-26, version 1.0*

Earlier in the year we had a new version of the app. I had high hopes. Alas, the new app was worse. Harder so see information and more clicks and navigations required to complete simple things - like paying a bill.

And now (end Fed 2025) they’ve managed to make it even worse.

Adding. captcha verification at the end of making a payment. What!?

This is just madness. I’ve just FaceID’d to make the Apple payment and now you want me to fiddle with stupid captcha.

No. Just no.

I can’t think of a worse app that is on my phone.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-02-25, version 1.0*

Can’t log in like the rest of people. Blank screen

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A significant improvement!

*2024-11-22, version 1.0*

Frankly confused by some of the reviews of the new app - it’s much better than the old one (which was disappointingly basic compared to apps from other companies). This has a lot more functionality. I had no problems at all logging in to it, possibly because I had done as instructed and set up my new account details on line before downloading the new app.

### 5/5 — Great new app

*2024-11-11*

Love the new app - particularly happy with the consumption history page so I can clearly see how much energy I’ve used on which day. Also love the Get Help articles feature, all the info I need is at my fingertips.

**Developer response:** Hi ImogenPF, Thank you for your feedback We do appreciate it and are pleased you like it.

### 4/5 — Improving

*2025-07-01, version 1.0*

Does what you need it to do. Not the flashiest or slickest app but it works.
When entering readings it now clearly says which energy type you’re entering and also what your last reading was. This is better than the last “enter a number” screen.

Past bills are only for 12 months, personally I’d prefer a bigger time span.

Never had it crash on me yet.

### 4/5 — Functional, and perfectly fine

*2024-11-23, version 1.0*

I think a lot of the negativity for this update is based on having to re-register, maybe that could have been communicated better.

The app itself is pretty basic but absolutely functions as expected, and performs all the tasks you’d expect to be able to do.

Could it be cooler? Possibly. Does it need to be? Not at all.

### 4/5 — Calm down it’s fine

*2024-11-19, version 1.0*

I’m surprised by the angriness expressed in many of the reviews of this app, as well as the suggestions of cynical motivations for change which don’t chime with my experience of the strong ethics of the company (the reason we all joined Ecotricity I’m sure). I’ve given it 4 stars because it does what I want and expect it to do and it wasn’t difficult to set it up. Not 5 stars because there’s room for improvement, which I’m sure will happen. I agree that the functionality around the querying and display of consumption data should be a focus, such as year-on-year charts.

### 4/5 — Request

*2024-11-14, version 1.0*

Would like to see readings within the app for electricity fed into the grid from solar panels.

### 4/5 — Better but could be improved

*2024-11-12*

A definite improvement on the last abomination. Well done ⭐️

**Developer response:** Hi RighteousBill, Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate it.

### 3/5 — Cost of Gas

*2026-06-15, version 1.0*

The app would be useful if it showed the cost of Gas you are using on a daily basis. Thanks

### 3/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-04-12, version 1.0*

Can’t log in like the rest of people. Blank screen. Since my original comment the app has been updated and logs in correctly. Does what it should now. Happy. Three stars because it could do more. Basic functionality

### 3/5 — A few small changes could improve this quite a bit.

*2025-02-10, version 1.0*

It’s fine but there are a few issues that could improve usability quite simply.

On the page to submit a meter read it doesn’t say what the previous read was. So you’re got to navigate to an entirely different page to check the read you are about to input is correct and you haven’t misread a figure.

When you ask for a new bill when submitting an electricity reading and then subsequently input a gas reading there is a message saying that a reading was already input for the day when it was not. I assume the input was auto generated because of the new bill request. This could work more clearly.

Please put gas and electricity read submits on the same page to reduce navigation. This would also resolve the confusing ‘new bill’ behaviour.

The use of a web style presentation rather than sticking to a native app is kind of a pain. Having the menu hidden behind a burger nav makes for a poor experience because you have to navigate to the top of the page and open the menu each time you want to change page. I appreciate this approach is cheaper to create than a native app. One small change that could improve it would be to allow for a swipe from the left edge to open the menu. This is what folks expect to happen and could be implemented without significant change.

Thanks for reading, in my opinion these small tweaks would improve usability quite a lot.
