## What is edimus?

Edimus is latin for "we eat". The goal of edimus.org is to raise the collective level of nutritional awareness in the world. In order to accomplish this edimus.org provides free tools to help you: learn, track, and navigate, the complex topic of food.

Our app is simple, clean, and intuitive.  All foods will have their own macronutrient breakdowns.  All food nutritional data has been obtained from the US Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central Database.

The groceries section allows you to keep track of your favorite products and manage them through shopping lists. The products can then be referenced in the diary section to leverage their nutritional details. Product nutrition data comes from various sources including our users and the Open Food Facts community.

The Science section is where you can learn more about published scientific research relating to foods as it pertains to health. This consists of an index which is broken down by categories and tags. It is vital to note that while the topics displayed in the index -and the studies themselves- do refer to medicine, there is a world of difference between published medical science and medical practice. Content provided by Edimus is not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Additionally, individual studies do not show the full picture of a situation, some studies contradict each other, others may not have had enough participants, or may have even been sponsored by interested parties. The studies themselves though, can serve as a basis to open up new topics of discussion with your healthcare provider. By making this information more readily available it will hopefully lead to more awareness, and more exposure about the studies themselves. This should lead to more scrutiny and therefore higher quality research available.

The diary section can be used to keep track of things you care about. Hopefully this includes what you're eating. All diary entries have a type.. whether its a meal, a drink, a moment, etc. For each entry you can specify a title, photo, and smart tags. The tags can be utilized to effortlessly search through previous entries. Once you've tagged a few entries you can head to the search screen and click the download button to generate a PDF output of your search results.

Thats all for now, but a lot of innovation is coming down the pipeline. If you encounter any issues, have some concerns, or you simply want to say hello, you may reach us at hello@edimus.org.
