### 2/5 — Missing a big feature

*2025-01-12, version 2.0.8*

Beautiful app interface but missing a big and important feature that is still so easy to implement. There is no way of customizing the “plant your own” pods which really makes plant tracking a mess.

### 2/5 — Not working

*2024-02-11, version 2.0.8*

Been using this little garden several years, gifted three friends the item too. However it is not connecting this last year and I wasted so much time to try connect over and over and back and forth with customer support without any substantial solution. Ugh I’m so fed up - I was loving it for long but think it is time to look for another brand sadly

### 1/5 — Crashes when setting up constantly

*2023-01-08, version 2.0.8*

I was gifted this $200 grow box months ago and have not been able to set it up fully after many hours of research and attempts. I ended up having to plug this in right next to my 2.4ghz router and each attempt gets a little further before it crashes and makes you start over and I finally got this device recognized and added to my home kit but the edn app won’t allow it to be added, gives me error codes like “make sure its plugged in” . I would have thrown this away a long time ago except for the fact it cost someone a small fortune to gift to me. I’m an avid gardener, I set up my whole house with smart lights, this should be easy but it’s the most frustrating waste of money that won’t work. I have $50 fully contained grow boxes w lights that are far superior to this.

### 1/5 — Great idea but under the hood it’s a scam

*2022-12-09, version 2.0.8*

I want to love this thing. It grows well and looks nice however there are many issues with the overall product and service…

-Alerts for low water don’t work
-If device disconnects or needs to be reset you lose the growth tracking progress
-Limited selection of herbs. What about some basic things like cilantro which are available for other similar products? I know you can buy the grow your own pods but the whole idea of this thing is to make things simple not have you shop around for multiple items and experiment with what works and what doesn’t
- the connection between the app and the website for account management is horrible and amateurish. This is not hard if you have in house devs and they know basic app development
- the automatic reorder service is supposedly based on the growth rate of your pods but this is completely false. If I grow only 2 pods out of 10 slots it wil still automatically send a whole new order. Seems to be more on a fixed time period than anything tge app does
- the biggest scam of all is the lack of any reasonable way to adjust, delay or cancel your membership. Tried going in from the app, from the website, contacted support. I was able to update once using backhanded instructions. Let me login, click manage membership and adjust the timing of my next order!!

Overall this concept is so simple yet the company has failed to make the implementation simple. Do not buy! If you just bought, return it!

### 2/5 — Neglected App and Prodcut

*2022-11-01, version 2.0.8*

Buyer Beware! Just another tech-bro startup fracking for subscription revenue.

This mini garden and its app can be added to the graveyard of products which didn’t do more than a superficial release and then get promptly abandoned.

The small garden’s hardware is very unreliable in staying connected to the network and in accurately alerting you to water levels. After having gifted about half a dozen of these small gardens to friends and family, all report the same unreliability of app water level notifications and having the device respond on their network consistently.

To Edn I would say, if you want to build a loved product and one that builds customer loyalty, go deep and invest and improve. You’ve burned trust here.

### 2/5 — 3/10

*2022-08-27, version 2.0.8*

This application stops giving you notification after a while, thus, causing your plants damage from dehydration, the help page is so miserably designed to cause you eye sore and keep you scrolling through meaningless titles, while a simple “search” button could be useless.

Suggestions to improve the app:
-increase the refresh rate of stats update.
-fix the notifications problem.
-add search button to the help page.
-notifications control shouldn’t be in “account settings”.
-add more pods options from other sources including different pods than the ones in your company.
-add live chat help.

### 2/5 — High tech garden with low tech app

*2022-07-17, version 2.0.8*

Love the aesthetics and ease of use of the physical SmallGarden. However, the app itself (which was a big selling point for this “smart” hydroponic garden) needs some serious work.

There is no way to edit or rename a “plant your own” seed pod. This is a pretty big flaw because one big feature this company claims is that you can monitor your garden from the app. Hard to do if you’re looking at a bunch of unnamed plants on the app.

I would love to see this app updated with customizable features like being able to name your own plants and writing notes on each plant. If this can be done I will happily update my rating of this app.

### 1/5 — Water Notifications Don’t Even Work

*2022-05-09, version 2.0.7*

I wish I would have read these reviews before purchasing. The water notification alerts don’t work. Never received an email or push alert. That was the whole point. Also, trying to get in touch with support is horrible. Seems like bad upper management. Business owner is probably not wanting to spend money on updates and support personnel.

### 4/5 — Super simple and easy to use app… but

*2022-04-11, version 2.0.7*

I love the simplicity of the app I just wish there were a few more features. I wish you could see more information and a more detailed timeline of the plants you are growing. I also wish wish wish you could sync the light up to sunrise and sunset. All my other grow lights are synced up to the sunrise and sunset time each day and I love that. So far i’m really enjoying my small garden but i wish there were a few more features in the app.

### 1/5 — Overpriced for it to not work and it to be incompatible with any device purchased within the year

*2022-04-05, version 2.0.7*

I am severely disappointed in edn’s lack of compatibility and complete procrastination - honestly, avoidance - to update their app or their system. I regret purchasing this. By the way, regardless of the ability to potentially use it on the network, my pods are clearly having an issue soaking water from the reservoir. What a waste of money.

### 1/5 — Water Sensor Doesn’t Work

*2022-01-19, version 2.0.7*

Everything but the water sensor and anything to do with watering works. My water is stuck at 75% and it’s almost empty. I water it and check on the levels on my own. If it weren’t for the lights working at 100% accuracy it would be a $200 plastic box.

### 2/5 — Technology Doesn’t Work Well

*2022-01-13, version 2.0.7*

I would give this 5 stars, but the sensor/notifications to refill the water - which is the main draw of this device - don’t work properly. I’ve never received a notification to add water. Instead, the sensor reads 25% for days while my plants wilt from dehydration. I’m sure my plants would be dead if I actually waited long enough for the app to notify me that they need water. Instead of relying on the inaccurate sensor and lack of notifications, I’ve taken to adding 32 ounces of water every 4-5 days. By completely ignoring the sensor and not waiting for notifications from the app, my plants are thriving.

Please fix this major flaw. The sensor should prompt the app to send me a notification when the water level is at 25%, not when it is completely dry… and probably too late for the plants.

### 3/5 — Works OK except ongoing water level bug

*2021-11-18, version 2.0.7*

Pretty app. Light comes on reliably on the schedule. Light responds fine to homekit button control every time . App notifies me if connection gets lost (unit got accidentally unplugged) . Light flashes when filling to tell me it's almost full.

The only thing that never seems to work accurately is the water level indicator in the app; the reading usually has nothing to do with reality, and this data is what triggers the 'low water' notifications. I filled it up completely 36hours ago, after noticing all the plants wilting (didn't get any low water warning notifications) . And then today I got notifications all day long telling me it's out of water - which it is NOT!

This bug claims to be fixed on curemt firmware , but it's not. ..

### 2/5 — Such a waste of money ):

*2021-11-02, version 2.0.7*

Hundreds of dollars for a device that over waters even though that's really the only thing it offers- and the app hardly ever works! I have to open and reopen and hope it loads correctly. The lights turn on at the same time every day- but not the time I set. The buttons to control the gardens take forever to load, if they ever even do. I regret this purchase sooo much, they really do annoy me. I think I'm just gonna unplug them and use them as pots lol.

### 1/5 — Unable to sign in

*2021-08-22, version 2.0.7*

This app it totally nonfunctional. It won’t allow me to sign in. As a result the actual garden is pretty much useless without the app. They don’t have a webpage interface to use either. Incredibly frustrating. Will be calling requesting a refund.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Easy instructions, IMPOSSIBLE Setup

*2026-07-12, version 2.0.8*

The pairing instructions seemed easy but the app experience was incredibly frustrating - need serious work!
I would not recommend to purchase the garden because app not working, water retention creates mold on the plants!

### 1/5 — Awful App no support

*2026-07-03, version 2.0.8*

I bought a small garden and have yet to be able to get it hooked up to my app. The app doesn’t allow me to add anything. It wants me to confirm my email but they don’t send me a link. Can’t connect the garden to my WiFi. I have tried to reach support twice with zero response. For a pricey product, I find it useless.

### 1/5 — I’d leave zero stars if I could.

*2026-06-27, version 2.0.8*

The app is horrendous. The Home Screen doesn’t work so I can’t add my garden that I spent over $200 on. Form fields don’t work on account, support request or anywhere else… I can turn the light on/off but that’s about it. This is a good idea but terrible product execution especially on the app.

### 1/5 — Never connects to HomeKit, Edn customer support is horrible

*2026-04-26, version 2.0.8*

The Garden does NOT work with HomeKit.
Edn claims it does, but it is never able to connect. (I even placed them directly beside my router, same network, etc. and it was unable to add.)
“Tech Support” was totally worthless!! Multiple calls, and all anyone did was read me the same Troubleshooting Guide available on the website. They had no solutions, options, ideas or information.
I purchased 2 gardens, and NEITHER would connect to HomeKit. Then when I attempted to reset and re-add them per the troubleshooting guide, I received an error stating they were already added to a different home, but they were not. “Tech Support” could not even understand the problem, (I guess it wasn't in their script) let alone offer solutions.
They do work as gardens, if I MANUALLY turn the lights on and off every time. If I wanted to do that, I would NOT have spent $200 each. VERY VERY VERY dissatisfied!
Apple, shame on you for still listing this product as “compatible” and not pulling this off your App Store.

### 1/5 — People Make Expensive Trash These Days

*2025-10-10, version 2.0.8*

The product itself is garbage. I ordered it to provide proper lighting for my indoor herb garden. Came to find out you have to order their SeedPods. And then there’s this ridiculous app, that cannot operate on its own without being connected to HomeKit. Then after connecting to HomeKit, the app doesn’t even recognize its own product.

### 1/5 — E-waste

*2025-06-21, version 2.0.8*

Once the product can no longer pair to HomeKit it’s essentially e-waste. This has happened to me after about 3 years.

### 1/5 — Changed my wifi name now the app and garden are useless

*2025-02-27, version 2.0.8*

I’m unable to reconnect my device after updating my wifi name. Even after re-pairing the device with the QR code, i get an error message saying to plug the garden into an eithernet cable. It makes no sense

### 1/5 — Crashes, freezes, loses my garden

*2024-11-16, version 2.0.8*

Very cool looking app, very cool looking product, but the functionality seems to constantly be suffering from bugs, disconnections, etc. I wish it would remember my garden for longer than a few weeks so I don’t have to keep resetting and re-pairing.

### 1/5 — Defective

*2023-07-22, version 2.0.8*

It doesn’t show the device

### 1/5 — Dysfunctional app

*2023-03-20, version 2.0.8*

This app used to work okay. But when I tried to reuse it after 1 year of hiatus it is now not allowing me to add a new garden unless it’s through Apple HomeKit and I don’t have any Apple devices to create a hub. Wish it wouldn’t default to it like that. It’s essentially unusable now.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wonderful Product + Company!

*2023-09-12, version 2.0.8*

I recently purchased a SmallGarden and am delighted with the results! This compact, innovative gardening solution has completely transformed my urban living experience. Even as a novice gardener, I found the SmallGarden incredibly user-friendly. The quality of the plants and the care they receive in the SmallGarden is truly impressive. My herbs have never looked so vibrant and healthy. The automated watering and nutrient delivery system ensures that my plants get exactly what they need, when they need it, leading to a bountiful harvest. Lastly, the customer support provided by edn is exceptional. They are readily available to answer questions and provide assistance, which makes the whole gardening experience even more enjoyable. All in all, end’s SmallGarden is a game-changer for anyone looking to bring the joys of gardening into their urban life.

### 5/5 — Great customer service

*2023-09-12, version 2.0.8*

Like everyone else (and like all IOS apps), I’ve experienced some app issues, but their customer service was super helpful in getting the problem resolved quickly and efficiently. I’ve also had a lot of success in planting my pods outside! The time released plant food within the pod is next to none.

### 5/5 — Simple, easy to use

*2023-09-12, version 2.0.8*

The Edn is a slick design that looks great on the counter. It’s fun to watch your pods germinate and grow without the hassle of potting or guessing. The app itself is simple to use and makes being a plant person easy!

### 5/5 — Love the product

*2023-09-12, version 2.0.8*

I love my SmallGarden! My wife and I have used ours for a while now and it has not disappointed us yet. We love having fresh basil and flowers all year round. The app is also very helpful in that it provides us with helpful growing tips for each plant, and it’s seamless how the lights operate on a schedule and provides us with notifications when we need to put more water in the garden. Would highly recommend this product to a avid gardener or anyone who likes to cook!

### 5/5 — Trust the Process

*2022-08-11, version 2.0.8*

Trust the process! The initial 32ozs will be absorbed by pods. After an hour I filled until 75%. A few periodic updates about plant growth. Including physical descriptions of plant’s current stage and when pruning can began. After about 22 days received low water alert. As I poured, the water level in the app increased, then read Full. The light band also dimmed when the water level reached full, then returned to bright. The lights are soft white color, like typical led household lights. HomeKit… Light control was what I needed. Light control via Siri is what I wanted. From Off/On to 100%. Fantastic! I have found it necessary after an initial opening of the app, to close it and reopen in order to connect to planter. I just figured it could be relative to the planter being idle, or something. No big deal, for me.

### 5/5 — I like the reminders and membership

*2021-03-12, version 2.0.6*

Trimming and harvest reminders are a cool feature. Also liking the new membership auto shipping of plants!

### 5/5 — Love the app! Love the product!

*2021-01-16, version 2.0.3*

Seeing where my plants are, through their growing process is great. Never have to worry about how much water my plant has, and it doesn’t matter where it is in my apartment, they get all the light they need.

### 5/5 — Amazing experience!

*2020-12-15, version 2.0.2*

Great product! Incredibly user friendly. The app is intuitive and responsive. I highly recommend EDN to anyone who doesn’t have a green thumb, but wants one! 5⭐️

### 5/5 — SmallGarden

*2020-11-23, version 2.0.2*

New app is amazing !!!! 🌱

### 5/5 — Intuitive, works as expected

*2020-11-22, version 2.0.2*

App gives an instant view of water level, allows control of light schedule, sends notifications when it’s time to add water and lets you know where you should be with your plants.
