## What is Edo Superstar?

Ninja. Monkey. Action.

Edo Superstar is an action-packed beat-em-up set in old Japan, featuring a colorful cast of animal characters. Guide Masaru, an energetic monkey with lofty ambitions to be the most popular fighter in the land, as he battles his way to Edo City and competes in the prestigious Zodiac Tournament.

Along the way our hero sharpens his skill and avoids his former ninja clan who hunt him for forsaking their order in his pursuit of fame.

Players control Masaru using a gesture-based control scheme that uses intuitive swipes and taps instead of cluttering the screen with virtual buttons. Slide under punches, uppercut massive foes in slow motion, parry incoming attacks, string together epic combos, and unlock even more abilities along the way.

As Masaru defeats his enemies, his fame rises allowing our hero to increase his strength, defense, speed and special stats. Money collected from bested foes can purchase special items, like stat altering amulets, giving our hero an even greater edge in combat. Performing well in a level will also yield special stars, which upgrades Masaru’s equipment.

### 5/5 — Fun

*2022-06-14, version 1.4*

At first it’s hard to get used to the controls, but after replaying the first couple levels I got the hang of it. It was even more challenging getting the superstars but worth it. I’m saving up for the clothes that are 5 superstars. The designs of the game are cool, but on a website there was a video you made also showing the customization of not only his clothes but also his face/ fur on his face. But overall, I would rate it a 4.5, but round it up to a 5. Though I would like to see more clothes designs and things like that.

### 5/5 — No tengo palabras 😂😂😂

*2022-02-04, version 1.4*

No tengo palabras. Mejor juego que he jugado todo él año; los gráficos son dulces y los combos son épicos. Esto debería estar en la consola.

### 5/5 — Crusty awesome

*2021-12-27, version 1.4*

This game is so pro gamer and I like it except when I punch backwards (it’s a odd glitch it doesn’t happen often and when it happens it’s just annoying) it good game

### 5/5 — The right level of challenging

*2021-01-31, version 1.4*

This game is no button masher, and it does not take endless dedication either. The result is a mobile game that is more than a way to turn off after a long day. The game is fun. (A few bugs, especially fighting rooster in Edo tournament).

### 2/5 — Очень неудобное управление

*2021-01-06, version 1.4*

Игра вроде интересная, но управление всё портит

### 2/5 — Bug 很嚴重

*2019-11-12, version 1.4*

我打到第二話的第二關突然掉回第一話,然後就一直停在第一話的關卡了，而且付費買的東西都沒有給我啊！是否太糟糕？？

### 5/5 — The Most Beautiful Beat-Em-Up!

*2018-11-06, version 1.4*

I wrote this review when I originally played through the game, but I think most of the information still stands. I’m just awful at posting these.

Great game with refreshing music, art, and style. The humor is on point and I found myself amazed by the volume of secret areas and activities. There is so much to do in this game! I spent a long time in the third world simply because I was enjoying backtracking and finding secrets I had missed. Because it is so difficult, the game naturally encourages you to go back and level up from time to time, and I enjoyed that process.
The tips were actually very helpful. I found myself wishing I could read all the tips in one place.
All in all, the mechanics are rewarding, and there is a deep level of complexity to the battles (not something you can say about most mobile brawlers). The game shines until the very end, bursting at the seams with creative energy. The zodiac tournament is especially fun, and there is some good character development along the way.

There aren't many things I do not like about this game, but most of them are in the first and third worlds, and were revisited when I tried to collect some superstars prior to progressing to the latter worlds.

A retry button, rather than an exit button, would have made superstar challenges less tedious.
Some early enemies were frustrating due to mobbing/stunlock combos or the absence of a critical hit reticule (looking at the pigs from world 1).
The lack of a "picking items up" animation made a certain superstar challenge in world 1 frustrating.
Moving between platforms at various elevations is a bit difficult. Sometimes the game doesn't allow moves such as the divekick. This was worst when trying to avoid a flopping fish or two on boats (see 3-6).

If anything, most of these flaws left me wondering if I would have had a better experience using a controller or keyboard... but after the difficulties of the first world—the second world is very fun—they were mostly problems of the past. The game has a good core and these were minor kinks that I expect to see fixed over time.

Great work! Can't wait to see the next game you put out!

### 5/5 — Oooh-oooh-oooh!

*2017-11-01, version 1.4*

Quite simply the best fighting game I’ve played in years. Big fan!

### 5/5 — Beautiful little ninja game

*2017-06-26, version 1.4*

What a cool game, amazing visuals too. Great beat-em-up style of gameplay with some nice Japanese music & art to go with it. Surprisingly relaxing for a fighting game.

### 5/5 — Action-packed Artful Fun!

*2017-05-16*

Fun side-scrolling fighting game with a classic story set in feudal Japan with terrific character design and beautiful backgrounds and maps!
