## What is EffectDeck?

EffectDeck runs EffeTune's effects on the audio other apps are already playing.

Pick EffectDeck as the output in Control Center, then open the app and build a chain. No virtual cable, no routing to set up, nothing to configure first.

The effects are EffeTune's own DSP, running unmodified: over 100 of them, the same code EffeTune runs on the desktop and on the web.

WHAT YOU GET
- Over 100 effects: EQ, dynamics, saturation, modulation, reverb, delay, spatial, lo-fi and restoration
- Analyzers you can drop into the chain: spectrum, spectrogram, oscilloscope, level and stereo meters
- 17 presets from EffeTune, added to your chain inside a named section
- Convolution reverb with your own impulse responses
- Paste an EffeTune share link to load a chain someone sent you, or share yours back
- Oversampling at 48, 96 or 192 kHz
- Latency and CPU shown while it runs

HOW IT WORKS
iOS 27 lets an app present itself as an audio output device. EffectDeck appears in Control Center next to your speaker and headphones. Choose it, and the audio from the player you are using is handed over, processed, and played back on the same device. Apps that never report themselves as playing, most games among them, keep going straight to the speaker.

The audio never leaves the device, and nothing is collected. If you are signed in to iCloud, your presets and chain follow you to your other devices.

The effects are EffeTune by Yoshiyuki Kobayashi (MIT). This app is a separate project and is not affiliated with EffeTune. The name was changed at the upstream author's request.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2026.09.22 — 2026-09-22

Fixes effects that could not load their data.

IR Reverb, FIR Crossover, 5Band FIR PEQ, Group Delay EQ, Group Delay PEQ,
Room EQ and Crosstalk Cancellation all failed with "This build cannot reach the
effect's staging buffer." and could not be used at all. This affected every
release since 2026.09.17. They work again.

Also in this version:

- Reordering effects is decided by how the cards actually overlap, so a card no
longer runs away from your finger, and you can scroll while reordering.
- Full-screen spectrogram, with the grid drawn over the image and corrected
  colours.
- FIR PEQ points can be dragged, and the band header matches the other band
  strips.
- Sections were rebuilt: an unnamed section collapses, and a section imported
from EffeTune is read as written.
- Audio files can be sent in from the share sheet.
- Reporting a problem fills in the diagnostics and the last part of the log for
  you.
- Less work while nothing is routed in.

### 2026.09.20 — 2026-09-19

Multichannel output
- Send the chain to a USB audio interface, up to 16 channels
- Effects routed to All process the full hardware width; FIR Crossover works with 4 to 16 channels, so you can drive a multi-amp setup
- Connecting or disconnecting an interface while playing rebuilds the path

Audio Unit plugins
- Host AUv3 plugins as ordinary nodes in the chain, in the order you place them

Fixed
- Presets that use an impulse response reload it when you load them
- The Phase Select EQ graph no longer collapses

### 2026.09.19 — 2026-09-18

New effects
- Pitch Meter: note, cents and Hz, with a scrolling piano roll
- Spatial Mapper: splits direct, diffuse and residual, and routes each
- TV Audio Simulator: analogue and NICAM television sound

Fixed
- Two unnamed sections side by side could swallow one of them
- Dragging a card took the matrix away from your finger

UI
- Sections can be left, and a group's start and end are drawn
- Presets moved into the effect picker, as genres
- Folders for user presets: drag a preset onto one to file it
- Drag a frequency graph to audition a sine tone
- Other smaller changes throughout

Follows EffeTune v2.10.0.

### 2026.09.18 — 2026-09-17

Requires an iPhone restart

Restart your iPhone once after installing this update. Until you do, EffectDeck may not appear as an output device in Control Center. This is needed for this update only.

Your presets and chain follow you to your other devices through iCloud.

Reordering is rebuilt: press and hold a card and it follows your finger, with no jitter when the cards differ in height. Swipe a card to the left to delete it. Export and import moved from Settings to Presets.

### 2026.09.17 — 2026-09-17

Effects that were in the list but had no way to load their data now work: IR Reverb, Room EQ, 5Band FIR PEQ, Group Delay EQ, Group Delay PEQ and Crosstalk Cancellation.

Presets per effect, including the factory ones from EffeTune.

UI: drag from the picker to drop an effect anywhere in the chain, fold cards in three steps, reach routing from the card, and see the live spectrum behind the PEQ curves.

Fixed since 2.9.0

IR Reverb never actually applied. The impulse response was read but never reached the kernel, so it passed the dry signal through.

Anything an effect had loaded was thrown away when the output device or the sample rate changed, and nothing put it back.

Crosstalk Cancellation forgot its measurements and its settings as soon as you folded the card.

Total Delay did not follow the settings that change it.

Meters and graphs did not redraw in step with the display, and frames were being dropped.

In the effect picker: a dragged effect sometimes showed nothing under your finger, the sheet stayed shrunk if you missed the drop, you could not drop below the last card, and picking from search did not close the sheet.
