BYTES GmbH that is not capable of making a usable sync with other equipment. OK as a stand-alone app mangling a loop, but useless if you need an external clock to get direct audio ### 4/5 — AU support *2017-11-30, version 1.1.6* It’s more than time these apps get AU support but I still love them and would recommend them. ### 2/5 — Great app, when it works, which is almost never *2016-06-25* This was a spendy app. When it works it is great...but it usually doesn't. I'm not an idiot, I've read the docs and forums, and using iaa or audiobus with external sync it almost never works. Grrrr. Egoist does similar things and has nothing missing but is more pricey. Effectrix just isn't a 'go to' sound tool. But what do I know? Actually loads! There are far better similar apps. ### 5/5 — iPad effects processor I was hoping for! *2015-12-06* Really enjoying this one, it's what I was hoping I would find for the iPad, to use it as a specialized effects pedal. Great design choices as far what controls to incorporate. I use it in audiobus, in the effects slot, and slave it with midi. It also works right with an external clock source (computer DAW). Be warned it seems to need an external clock, if used in audiobus. Midibus is a great, standalone midi clock, if you are desperate to use it in this fashion. Doesn't bother me though, because I would always use it with a sequencer or drum machine, something with tempo, they all have midi clock out (except kong Gadget I believe). Love the effects type choices, useable and weird. Also that there are the different sequences you can make, then pull up with midi notes, so you could sequence longer effects sequences, like for a whole song, from an external sequencer that puts out midi notes. Also like the single automation lane that you can assign in each effect. It seems limited, by only being one parameter, but I like that it isn't bogged down with endless bells and whistles you'd probably never use. The screen real estate is usable on a full size iPad, unlike some other sugar bytes apps that get way too tiny (Thesys!). Delay is terrible, so sync at all, Maybe nice if it only sequenced other 3rd party plugs, but then we have fx automation too... dunno 🤷‍♀️ ### 1/5 — Be wary of buying... *2018-06-30, version 1.1.8* Sugar Bytes seem to be cutting audiobus support on their apps. Так-то прога вобщем-то ничего, но не фачит как нужно. ### 1/5 — Almost Completely Useless for Live Work... *2014-10-25* Let me just get to the bottom line up-front: Effectrix sounds great. It produces fantastic results in a completely-controlled environment (e.g. the studio). But if you are planning to use it in a live setting with live input, it has one extremely fatal flaw that completely hoses its functionality: When you are using either External Input or Audiobus, you MUST run an external clock source into it, such as MIDI Clock. Otherwise, it will not function... period. So if you want to process any sound source other than the files you've pre-saved, be it a live input or another IOS synth/program, you have to needlessly boot some other program that sends MIDI Clock. You then have to route that second program's clock into Effectrix. What's more, tempo and transport are now controlled by that second program. So if you want to make any tweaks in Effectrix, but then start/stop or change speed, you're stuck having to hocket back & forth between two programs. Oh, and what's that? You say you want to perhaps use Effectrix with a synth that doesn't send MIDI Clock on its own? Well, now you get to juggle between *three* programs -- your synth, Effectrix, and that useless third program that's only running on your iPad to provide a clock feed. If you're performing onstage, you want to simplify things and remove as many wild variables as possible, or else you're just asking for trouble. But because Effectrix can't function free-standing (except with its own pre-recorded files), you now double or even triple the chance that something is going to crash in the middle of the gig onstage. And Effectrix doesn't pass audio at all when it's not clocked, so you can't even fake it through the set with no effects. It mutes everything, so you're standing there silent looking like a fool in front of your audience. Joy! Look, I want to give this thing a good review. It sounds great and I'd love to collapse most of my stage effects into this one alone. But this fatal flaw is one of the stupidest design decisions I've seen in quite some time. And it's a design flaw that could probably be remedied with no more than a couple hours attention, if they'd only commit to it. Fix this, and I'll be more than happy to come back here and completely revise this review.
