No auto-saving of patterns? Programme changes to select patterns in the 21st century? What’s frustrating is that this would be a very capable plugin with a great feature set if it wasn’t so cumbersome in use. Nearly every function is hindered by very unintuitive and just plain awkward interface. At first I thought I would eventually get to learn its quirks and grow to love it. I didn’t. ### 3/5 — Essential features missing *2025-11-03* Overall very solid app, but there are essential functions missing. Or at least I have to been able to find it. Would it be possible to have the option to de activate the grid to record without quantization? Also a way to stop the midi triggering function when receiving midi from another device. I tried to contact the developer to let them know… but there is no way to do it. I even went to their Facebook page to send a message and messenger notified me that it couldn’t send the message… I want to use this in a professional context but I can’t load my own sounds without it crashing. ### 2/5 — Nice kits, shame about the hi hats *2023-02-19* I had such high hopes for this, but whenever I use it in auv3 the hi-hats NEVER record. Having control over the starting and end time rather than using our fingers. I’m using cell phone version. I have know idea how it works on the tablet version. ### 3/5 — Good but limited to 1 bar patterns *2022-11-08* This app would be a home run if it allowed for at least 2 bar and preferably 4 bar patterns. There are workarounds, like song mode, but that is a bit clunky. For all the effort and polish that went into this app the lack of multiple bar patterns is somewhat mystifying especially considering how elegantly this works on Koala sampler for years now. ### 2/5 — Triplets *2022-08-16* There is no way to record triplets, why? ### 3/5 — Still no complete audio export *2022-08-08, version 1.36* So the most recent update included improved colour management for pads, but I STILL can’t export an entire groove as one .wav file. Only the individual stems. The other functionality is really food, so its a shame that full export looks like its too much trouble to add. ### 3/5 — Good but 1 bar loop is not long enough!!! *2021-10-02* This app would be the best drum machine app If would increase the loop/steps to 4 or 8 bar loop recording. The 16steps/ 1 bar completely disrupt the work flow and creativity by limiting record to 1 bar per pattern, creating multiple 1bar patterns it’s just counter productive. Please fix as there is a whole community facing this same issue. ### 3/5 — Latest version is buggy *2021-09-18* While this is a brilliant app with great potential, something is broken in the latest version. New kits and user banks appear to be saved but disappear when the app is relaunched, making the app unusable for any serious work. Needs an urgent fix! ### 2/5 — Buggy *2021-07-07* This app seems good, tho I can’t use it in any projects due to the constant crashes within Cubasis. I know Cubasis isn’t the best for stability, but as soon as I add an instance of eg pulse and start using it, the project constantly crashes when using eg pulse ‘ adding samples to the pads etc. Then I load the project up again and anything I have done is lost in eg pulse. If bugs can be ironed out I’m sure I will use more but for now cannot recommend. ### 5/5 — Incredible. Professional. Goes well between iPhone 7 & iPad 6 *2021-05-27, version 1.25* It takes a little training. And the sections of kits and specific kits take a minute to remember & I just run kits. I utilize it as an audio unit. Five Stars. It’s solid once it is set up. Rather than use interface components iPad and Mac users are familiar with, he reinvented the wheel (perhaps to safe screen real estate). There a HUG learning curve with what should be a mostly intuitive drum pad. A few examples: Doesn't support CMD+C or CMD+V. There's not an undo (CMD+Z). The grid for creating which pads play when, can not be zoomed with 2 fingers (like many apps support). There's only 16 pads per drum kit; when you think of even a snare which could have different sounds itself (with springs, without springs, rimshot) - you realize it could have been better thought out. There are some good things: There's a multi-output version. You can load your own wave files for each pad. IF you're looking for a drum machine patterned after the old physical devices (pun intended) - where you get up and running quickly :: THIS ISN'T IT. Tempo knob way too sensitive and setting the attack, decay and other parameters of samples while hitting the test button doesn’t change the sound . You always have to let the finger of the screen for sound update. This sucks and is an no go for sound design. Still a long way to go for a good drum machine **Developer response:** Hi, you can set your BPM also with a right-left swipe on the tempo label in the top display. However if you want to manually enter a precise BPM just double tap on the tempo knob and digit the tempo in the popup ### 1/5 — Custom Kits Don't Work *2021-11-14, version 1.32* No matter what sample I tap on, in a list of samples within a kit, it gives me a random sample. For example, tapping on "kick" loads a cowbell, the next time it tapping kick loads a snare, the next time tapping kick loads a clap. It's like this with all kits and in all banks. Whether working in my bank or one of the built in kits. This is base functionality, not advanced, and it should be dead simple and functional but it is not. Also, the fact that the app has no means of submitting feedback or bug reports has made the case for this 1 star review. I would have GLADLY given it 3 or 4 stars and simply provided feedback but no, no way, leaving users with this much frustration and no means of attempting to address problems qualifies for a big F. U. iPhone 8, iOS 15.1, everything else on the phone works perfectly and it's all as snappy as can be. ### 1/5 — Crash *2021-11-06, version 1.31* Whenever I send midi messages or try to assign midi cc, eg pulse proceeds to crash. Only one drum pad works when using it in GarageBand and there’s no snares for the hip hop drum sets. There’s also not enough drum sets in general. There are a few things wrong with it, but it's been fixed with this update. I just reached out to the developer, and there it was, the fix. I just wish every other app had support like this, five stars! ### 5/5 — Beatmaker3 Lite! *2024-01-23* Supplements the drums in Cubasis for me. I can drag multiple samples from Files into this app! I got this following Segments which is also a wonderful app from this developer. ### 5/5 — One of the best Drum Machines, specially for smaller screens *2023-07-14* This is a great drum machine and -sequencer. Sounds great and the app has a very clear user interface that makes it ideal as a plugin. ### 5/5 — Update: Better every time I use it. ‘PianoForte’ drum pads! *2022-12-01* The pads do a pianoforte trick - soft to forceful, depending on how high on the individual drum pad you tap/strike it. This is a revelation, I don’t know why I didn’t notice it. It’s kind of obvious as a technique, and is genius for that reason. As someone much better at music than myself told me, louder and softer is the most basic and fundamental variation you can introduce to a performance. So a more recent usage of EG Pulse, shows lovely touches I thought best to mention: the pads. You can enlarge these so there’s fewer of them, but in either size, you can use ‘settings’ to make the gain/volume of each drum hit vary the higher up the particular drum pad you strike it (it’s called ‘vary volume by y-axis’ or similar, in ‘settings’). In ‘settings’ you can also set the view to be some other type of fascia, but I tend to leave it on ‘MPC’, I presume it is fashioned after the iconic sampler box. Samples: I bought the lot I think. There’s EG 808, and a lot of ‘EG’ versions of similar drumbox type units. I think I will be using this a bit more now, it just takes me a while to get oriented with an app and to get into it. But you can use your own samples. TIP: You’ll set ‘host sync’ inside GarageBand using EG Pulse as an AUv3, and it’s BPM will not budge…just hit the GB ‘play’ arrow briefly and off again, and the EG Pulse bpm will latch on reflecting the host rate. Older stuff I said: So I tried the other 3 or 4 drum apps on my ipad pro 2 and either IAA or AUv3 made no odds, it was sometimes they would work, others not. I am not a power user of drums, I want to input a decent drum track and it needs to sync to the host eg Cubasis 3 at the moment. EG Pulse does, the AUv3 operates solidly and reliably. I have other drum apps that have lovely percussion from exotic faraway places etc, but they don’t work inside of eg Cubasis 3. The early days of iOS are gone, when people marvelled that an app sounded like the real thing - now we may well use iOS as the major DAW platform - I do - and as always in tech, interconnectivity becomes a prerequisite as the market matures. EG Pulse therefore, has been created to be what is needed now, not like the older drum apps I see lauded, which are little stranded islands. If you want to incorporate drums into a song, you at least need to connect with a recording app, if not be fully AU compatible. Cannot comment on super-detailed aspects, but it works with the DAW I need it to sync to at the moment, and the drums sound clear and it has built-in patterns, which is my preference. There’s a little row of the Cubasis icons for flipping into Cubasis, as well as the ‘go’ arrow and a ‘record’ dot. These basic transport controls, you need accessible, and so my use case may be simple, but this drums app delivers. ### 5/5 — Top ! *2022-09-06* Tres pratique. I bought it after watching some comparison videos and it's just awesome. As well as built in sounds, you can drag/import your own and mix and apply each sound within EG Pulse as an AuV3 instrument, separate from the DAW e.g. GarageBand. This is so useful because you can have one DAW track for many custom sounds+samples without wasting other tracks. You can even record other GarageBand instruments and AUv3s into it within GarageBand. You can edit, normalise, mix, change pitch, change speed and apply FX to each sound individually. The developer was even kind enough to fix a bug I contacted him about and I'm very happy with this version which works perfectly.
