My 5 year old's school recommended the website, so I thought we'd try the apps. The game is too slow, then too fast. The word you are looking for appears too infrequently and it becomes boring. As a result it wasn't long before my son discovered it's more fun to lose. The comedy consequences to getting it wrong are far more rewarding than riding out the boredom of waiting 20 seconds for the right word to appear. The app tells the child to "swipe" the egg, which often results in hitting another wrong egg at the same time. It's better to just tap. Once you reach 15 words, the game speeds up and the eggs get smaller. On an iPhone screen this doesn't work well. The eggs move far too fast and the writing is hard to read on the patterned eggs. The game has potential, but the instructions need to be clearer, the word frequency needs improvement and why doesn't it link to your website account so you can track child's progress? ### 2/5 — Won't open on iOS 7.0!! *2013-09-23* Love this app but now it won't open after I updated my phone software to iOS 7.0. It just shows a black screen. Please fix!! I don't want to reinstall it and lose all of my kids' progress. Also, have different profiles for each kid so they go at their own pace learning the words. Don't have the eggs get smaller. You can't read them because they're too small and going so fast. ### 3/5 — Good concept but display is too small *2013-03-28* As the level is mastered the eggs not only move faster; they get smaller. The increased speed is challenge enough; the decreased size makes the words almost impossible to decipher. Creator should include an option to disable this feature for those of us limited to the smaller screen of a phone or iPod. I can't even see the words myself by the end of a round so imagine how frustrated my early reader is getting. ### 2/5 — Can't sign in *2012-09-04* Reading eggs is how my sons school does home work. It does not have an option to customize it for each child only to reset it completely. Would earn five stars if you could have multiple players with different skills and levels with saved games. ### 1/5 — Disappointing *2012-08-06* My son loves reading eggs and I was pleased to see that they had created an app that he could play on the iPad. I knew it was different then the actual reading eggs but expected the same standard. The app is incredibly repetitive and the graphics of the eggs are blurred and hard to read for an adult, never mind a 5 year old when the speed in increased. There is no proper timing for the eggs and the bad eggs cover the good eggs and causes your already frustrated child to loose a life and the game when it is not their fault. Even as an adult I miss some of the good eggs do to this issue. The whole app is disappointing and unfortunately the original reading eggs name pulls parents in to buy it. A very disappointed parent and child. ### 1/5 — Won't download! *2012-07-30* My son loved the lite free version of this app so I spent $2.99 and purchased the full app. It wont download! I've tried several times and I have plenty of storage. An error message keeps appearing saying it can't load at this time! ### 3/5 — Levels confusing and child can progress to hard words without doing easier words first. *2012-07-18* I love reading eggs but was a bit disapointed with the app. The levels in the beginning are unlocked and it is not clear which game contains what level of words. It keeps the kids attention but I don't think they are learning anything as they jump from one word to another without getting the three eggs and revealing a puzzle piece. It would be good if parents could go into settings and select words for the kids that they want them to learn or they had to finish one word before changing to the next. It would also be good if there was a parent screen where you could see what words the kids had done. It is also unclear to the kids that you have to get three eggs to get a puzzle piece. Love the game though, a bit like squash ant but with words, I would much rather the kids were doing this than mindless rubbish. PS I just downloaded the free eggy 100 to compare and it is much better as the levels are locked! My little boy just does not want to stop playing! ### 5/5 — Works for the littlies *2012-07-22* Admit I was a bit skeptical at first but this app clearly presses the buttons for Mr Nearly Four. I was surprised how quickly he cottoned on to how it works and started recognizing letter patterns. A reminder of how important repetition is for kids, and why they love it. Apparently Mr Nearly Four's favorite bit is 'when you get to spell the word at the end.' The progressive solution of the jigsaw puzzle is obviously engaging as well. So glad to see Reading Eggs has an app out now! ### 4/5 — Pretty good *2014-01-26* My son is 7 and likes this game, but it's not his favorite. This game has the student tap the chosen word they are learning printed on colored Easter eggs that leap and fall across the screen. "Obstacles" are in the form of words the child isn't looking for, rotten eggs, frying pans, pigs, etc. If they click the wrong egg or object, they lose one "life" (a green smiley face in the upper right hand corner). They can earn extra "lives" if they click on an egg imprinted with smiley faces. As the level progresses, the eggs come faster and some are smaller. After successfully completing a level choosing the chosen word, the next level has the child spelling the same word from letters on Easter eggs delivered in the same way with the same obstacles. Letters must be chosen in the correct order, of course, and the letters are displayed after being chosen on the bottom of the screen. This helps reinforce both the reading and the spelling of the sight word. This is a great way for a child to learn to read sight words. The only downside I see is that although there are 3 different menu options for the child, they all play exactly the same game, although there are different sight words available on level one of each game. We are homeschoolers and use this company's program, Reading Eggs. This app is a fun way to sometimes back up what he learns on Reading Eggs. ### 4/5 — Won't load *2013-10-12* Why has this app stopped loading? Have deleted and reloaded and still not working.
