### 3/5 — Needs export to desktop version

*2019-01-22, version 1.6.2*

Needs export to desktop version. I own both. No sense making beats on both, its just redundant. Please update

### 4/5 — Brilliant, creative, fun for hours

*2018-10-09*

Simple, intuitive and well thought out interface. Yet surprisingly powerful once you look under the hood. Within minutes of purchase, I was having great fun creating beats I never could have imagined.
I’m looking forward to see how this killer music app evolves.
I highly recommend it, there’s nothing like it.
A lot of bang for the buck.
However— I would give 5 stars if I could rely on my files staying the same way I left them. Opening previously saved works is inconsistent—sometimes the tempo is sped up, or some of my saved patterns simply disappear.

### 5/5 — Check it devs

*2017-10-11*

Add another slicer track?!?
Add ur own samples to drum and bass sections?!?

Would make it unstoppable.

Just throwing it out there.

Design and layout makes me feel hip. Makes me wanna go to Starbucks and just leave the app open to look cool.

### 5/5 — Ableton Link!

*2017-05-02*

This app was really great to start with, but it was a bummer there was no Link integration....new update has remedied that...making this app super duper excellent...this app allows you to mangle samples then add independent bass, and drums to the diced samples....allowing you to create unique sounding songs/textures very quickly and easily. Get it, you'll love it.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2016-10-23*

This is a wonderful scratchpad for music experimentation, a mad musos lab for getting inspiration and sketching out your craziest music notions, potions, and emotions. A groovebox extraordinaire tour de force bar none. The sound of prancing fish fingers dipping their walking sticks into a lake of penny black stamps on a planet made entirely of gold encrusted diamonds - don't laugh, it's possible! What I would like now is for Sugar Bytes to release their 'Factory' App on iOS. Please, Shoogs - Perlease release 'Factory' on the iPad. Pretty please with Sugar Bytes on top?

### 4/5 — Great fun

*2016-04-30, version 1.0.12*

This app is great for creatively mangling samples and beats. The addition of Ableton Link would make it nigh on perfect.

### 5/5 — Man...

*2016-04-17, version 1.0.12*

...This is good. If people read my reviews they'll know that, unlike 95% of people who give 5* for 3* apps! I don't give 5* easily. Cubasis, Audiobus, Auria (mainly for the Fabfilter and Sugarbytes VSTs...the first in the iOS world to work with VSTs), and maybe 2 other apps. Very large mb space used though. Out of all the synths, dm's, sequencer's, sampler's etc...Egoist is the app which does more for less. I sound like a Tory MP now. Usually you don't get more for less, you get less for less but there's always an exception to the rule. Great tutorials too.

### 3/5 — Needs updating

*2016-03-08, version 1.0.11*

Great on release, this app is now showing its age. Doesn't work well in either Audiobus or AUM, so of limited use at the moment.

Another app that's not living up to its potential.

### 5/5 — get it

*2016-02-13*

intuitive, fun, beautiful UI, easy to use but doesn't make your music for you. get it.

### 3/5 — Some kind of bug?

*2015-07-26, version 1.0.8*

Error Audiocopy - File of zero bytes

What is this all about...

I can't seem to bounce anything out of Egoist now... 😖

### 5/5 — Easy to drown in for hours...

*2015-07-18*

The guys at sugar bytes have made some of my favorite soft synths and effects that have been in my sound for years. Egoist is no exception as I haven't really put it down. It's certainly part beat and groove box. I've tried to make it lame and nope - even if I load some show tunes in here, soon they turn into twerkalicious disco house. You can't go wrong with the egoist and you'll be rocking to the beat of your own drums soon!

### 5/5 — Fun To Use x Serious Results

*2015-06-16*

Egoist is special: every aspect leads to creativity and awesome results. The Slicer is an Endless source of fast fun and incredible chop + (re)arrange ability.

The Bass / Beats page is an example of potent minimalism and the drum sounds are so So good. What can be done with 3 drum sounds and an awesome bass synth? A hell of a lot it turns out. Add the Slicer to the equation and the possibilities exponentially explode.

Now add the Effects page to the equation: actually a Multi-effects monster that's incredibly easy to use and can be applied to any sound.

One of my most-used and favorite apps of all time - Thank You Sugar Bytes!

### 1/5 — Egoist

*2019-11-30, version 1.6.7*

What a waste of quite a lot of money. Wish I could get a refund for this load of crap..!

### 1/5 — Old engine

*2019-11-18*

Effects need to be updated sounds dated

### 1/5 — Be wary of buying...

*2018-06-30, version 1.5.5*

Sugar Bytes seem to be cutting audiobus support.
So this app may not be as usable as you want or expect it to be.

### 1/5 — UNUSABLE ON IPAD PRO FOR OVER A YEAR

*2017-10-10*

My 2016 9.7 iPad Pro STILL cant run this app I love for over a year now, it worked great on my iPad Air 1 as well as Air 2.

I’ve been waiting in vain for a fix to the laggy, sluggish, no fun performance of Egoist but it’s no use, I’ve even deleted and redownloaded a few times in hopes of it working again but nope, and Sugarbytes can’t seem to be bothered so I’m done now. :(

### 1/5 — Barely Responsive

*2017-10-06*

I see I’m not the only one having issues on a iPad Pro 12.9. 2017 model. Slicer portion of app is very sluggish, animation showing slicer movement and output level moves ridiculously slow. Audio sounds fine but you can’t use any of the controls without serious bad latency. Egoist not usable in this state and that’s too bad cause I was excited to try it instead I threw money away. Take NOTE, I emailed support about this and gave a reasonable amount of time for some response. A Simple “we are working on it” or “we hear you” would have been suffice rather I was met with complete silence. Considering the asking price for this app,,,put your self in my shoes.

### 1/5 — Utter rubbish

*2014-12-24, version 1.0.4*

Don't waste your money. Terribly designed, bordering on impossible to use, overpriced rubbish. Spend your money on one of many superior (and cheaper) music apps out there.

### 2/5 — The drums aren’t working

*2018-08-25*

With this new au3 release, the drums aren’t working.

Did you not know that before releasing it?

Or worse, did you?

**Developer response:** Which iOS version are you exactly working with? We are aware that at least a few customers had this problem when working on 11.3. and we will see what we can do about it but after turning the ipad on and off again or even updating to 11.4.3 it should work well.

### 2/5 — Very nice app but Dropbox not working!

*2015-01-24, version 1.0.5*

Dropbox feature not working

### 3/5 — Storage options are messed up

*2023-09-24, version 1.7.2*

I have 'On My iPad' selected as my storage location in settings which implies that imported samples should show up in Files App 'On My iPad' but they do not. When I go to Egoist in Files App the folder is empty however Egoist is accessing imported samples in it's own local storage. It should support 'Files App' storage. You should not say 'On My iPad' if you cannot access it via 'On My iPad' in Files App.

### 3/5 — This is really a question.

*2021-03-25*

Curious should have library of files crash on import??????

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Still hot! 🥵

*2024-12-20*

It’s a fun app to just throw an audio clip into and let it do its thing!

### 5/5 — 730 mb of samples I don’t want

*2022-01-25, version 1.7.1*

Please please sugarbytes allow users to delete your included samples and put the user files at the top of the list.I want to play with my own samples, find them easily and for my content not to be an after thought. Space is of a premium.

### 5/5 — Dope

*2021-12-05*

If you make sample-based music… this is 👌.

### 5/5 — UPDATE this is driving me crazy!!!!

*2019-11-04*

I have never used “midi learn/clear” and don’t plan on using it. Why does this menu show up so quickly on long touching the iPad... and then it sticks making a few taps to get it to go away.... this really drags workflow... what can’t this be turned off to accommodate most users... that feature is no something called upon that we need it after a half second is up... its so annoying please add a preference. Please.

I’m convinced the limited sounds and the quality in the drum machine are mirrored from Emu SP1200 or 12bit machine alike. The sequencer groove (swing) stands out as having the same behaviors of the older boxes (DMX, Drumtrax, Linn) it literally reminds me of programming back in the day... I appreciate the limit of just kick + snare + hat... what else do you really need at the time of sketching...

It takes a little time before it happens, but when it does you will know you are there. Don’t know how else to explain it but this app is my new main tool for writing out ideas... I’d like to see some more filters added although the comb is perfection, no suggestions it’s made just right. Sugar Bytes is paid before the mortgage around here!

### 5/5 — Loved these apps, but still annoyed about the IAA kill.

*2019-10-13, version 1.6.5*

Sorry, don’t get what is happening with all of these apps killing IAA while at the same time not providing any proper native recording functionality.

You guys are throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and not everyone agrees with you doing so to give us “the future”. AUv3 is still very limited dealing with audio.

### 5/5 — Very, very good

*2019-10-10, version 1.6.4*

The slice alone is a must have. The bass and the drums with effects is just a cherry on top. Works as described.

### 5/5 — OMG, this is blowing my mind!

*2018-12-18*

Aparillo is insanely fun right out if the box, so to speak. The sound textures you can make with Aparillo is truly mind blowing with looking under the hood, but if you do, you are ‘down the rabbit hole.’ And what a hole it is!

THANK YOU Sugerbytes for adding note hold. It was the only thing preventing my purchasing the app. Note hold is a key part of my sound tapestry creation technique. And thank you for making note hold persistent while sampling multiple presets. When I’m in my creation process, unnecessary mechanical interaction can break the musical idea I’m working on.

### 5/5 — Very nice. Fun. Flexible.

*2018-10-20*

Good groovebox. Ableton Link works as long as you have External also selected. Love that it works as an AU. Will be lots of fun adding this to my collection of jam boxes!

### 5/5 — Great guys!

*2018-09-02, version 1.6.0*

First it is a 5 stars app, no question about it! And theses guys where fast to respond to one of my concern, great service! All and all, very very happy! Thank you :) Louis Brochu from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

### 5/5 — This app is amazing.

*2018-08-24, version 1.6.0*

The developers are incredible.
