### 2/5 — meh

*2025-10-02, version 1.5.0*

Its fun, but i disagree with the statement from the dev saying “some games arnt ment to be beat”

the fact that its hard coded some playthroughs are programmed to be doomed from the start is unfair. it takes all the skill out of the game and has you wondering through out the whole playthrough if this is one of them.

i wish they would get rid of the doomsday patch and revert it back to how it used to be to be upon release. having the game autodecide if youll win or lose at the start, regardless of the probabilities, is unfair and takes away from the experience.

### 2/5 — Okay game but major balance issues

*2024-03-25, version 1.5.0*

For .99 cents the game isn’t bad but it’s not good either. The game has major balance issues with the dice rolls. To the point it’s frustrating and there isn’t much joy in the game. Not even the actual board game this game is based off has dice rolls this bad. Unfortunately, doubt the developers of this app will never look into this balance issue and rework the dice rolls to be more fair as it’s all but confirmed they’ve abandoned this app and have no intent on addressing the dice roll balance issues that have plagued this app since day one. Buy at your own risk and be prepared to question your sanity if you do buy this app.

### 2/5 — Not well designed

*2023-12-28, version 1.5.0*

I really wanted to like this app because I enjoy the board game version but this is just too awkward to use. It takes several minutes for the game to load after you pick your team and elder god. There should be some way to skip the intro garbage and ust play the game but every time you have to wait for the game to finish the silly little animation thing at the start. I don't play this very often precisely for this reason. I actually tried to play again this morning but the app just locked up during the first quest and I had to restart my phone to get out of it at all. This could have been a great game but it's just not very well designed from a UX standpoint.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2022-03-10, version 1.5.0*

It’s a great board game but this app, even with its graphics and story is hindered by 90% of the time missing the dice roll by one.
It’s more than frustrating, it feels like it’s designed to fail. Lost interest so won’t be buying the other stories.

### 2/5 — Like playing slots at a casino(not in a good way)

*2022-03-06, version 1.5.0*

The variability of playing anything above easy feels like the rolls are absolutely against you, giving you everything but the results you need. Makes the game feel frustrating and not at all like you have a chance. I’ve had to start over on just the second level so many times, I may just delete the game out of pure frustration.

### 2/5 — Needs Work

*2021-08-15*

Why in the world are the opening screens not skippable? You expect people to wait through all that every time they want to play a phone app game?

There are also issues with a lack of information that should be easily accessible. For example, what is on each side of the dice?

Anyways, I'd be happy to rate it higher, but I don't think it's something i'll want to play with the current issues.

### 4/5 — Fun but now buggy

*2020-12-06, version 1.5.0*

Been playing since it came out, but now it crashes on launch.

### 4/5 — Great app. One of my favorites.

*2020-10-17, version 1.5.0*

I’ve played this a ton and enjoy it.

Just wish they would update the app to fit modern phones. iPhone 12 just launched and this app is still designed for screens from 5 years ago. 🤔

Full screen please.

### 2/5 — Abandoned?

*2020-08-22, version 1.5.0*

Edit: 3 years and counting since an update. :(
———

I used to play this almost every day; I have all the DLC. One of the best games of its time on the app store.

Except now, it's been seemingly abandoned; nearly 2.5 years sinxe the last update.

I check back in periodically to see if anything new is up, but am consistently disappointed.

### 4/5 — Tough but good

*2020-03-12, version 1.5.0*

A good adaptation of the board game, seeing you roll and risk dice to complete adventures, trying to prevent the Great Old One from awakening and bringing terror to the world.

It can be pretty unforgiving, but that’s what makes the game even more rewarding as your strategies pay off, and you come closer and closer to shutting down the horror in the museum.

### 2/5 — Bug: Darrel Simmons can’t upgrade dice

*2020-02-27, version 1.5.0*

This game would be better if Devs would test. You cannot upgrade a red 4 investigation dice to a 5 using hometown advantage. That means that investigator is a rather useless character.

I also think it’s extremely cheesy to have the iPad version and iPhone version separate purchases.

### 4/5 — Great game but you should be able to skip the videos...

*2020-02-15, version 1.5.0*

I love this game and have spend countless hours on it, but the thing that gets me every time is the lack of a skip button on the video scenes... I realized that you can turn them off in the settings, but I don’t want the off all the time! The later campaigns against Cthulhu, Dark Pharos and Itchaqua have several parts that you frequently have to restart and going through the videos again are a pain... but turning them off means you misse the next sequence that you may not have seen... that why it didn’t get five stars.

### 4/5 — Hard but worth it!!!

*2019-09-26, version 1.5.0*

This game can be awesome and very much captures the atmosphere of H. P. Lovecraft’s works.

It can be a little fickle in that sometimes you get dealt a losing selection of events but even that helps you learn how to prioritize which event you’ll attack first.

As with the tabletop version, choosing the right character for the right event is CRITICAL!

The expansion adds more challenging encounters some of which are insanely difficult (seriously, Ithaqua difficulty level is actually labelled “Insane!”).

Great game though occasionally frustrating. Worth purchasing!

### 2/5 — Unskippable Cinematics and Bad Design

*2019-05-23, version 1.5.0*

Long unakippable cinemaatics at the start and end of every match. It's not that the game is too random, it's that the randomness is poorly planned and feels even more punishing and demoralizing than it is. Rally questionable game design.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This game is waaaaaay to hard

*2023-02-16, version 1.5.0*

Don’t get or spend any money on it. Even on easy you can’t win. If you like losing EVERY SINGLE TIME then get it. I like FF board games… this is nothing like that, almost unbeatable.

### 1/5 — Abandoned software

*2023-02-08, version 1.5.0*

Hasn’t been updated in five years. Lots of bugs on the iPhone. 13 freezes doesn’t respond to input and so on. Skip it.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2022-02-06, version 1.5.0*

Just bought the game and there’s no sound on the iPad or iPhone.

### 1/5 — Avoid this game

*2020-07-24, version 1.5.0*

Probably the worst rules I’ve seen for a digital boardgame port. I couldn’t finish a game in part because I kept falling asleep. Avoid this or Cthulhu will rise again.

### 1/5 — Boring game

*2020-07-05*

Even if You expect that a Lovecraft mythos game is meant to make sure your characters are doomed, the game is utterly boring and redundant. The stats are lousy and it is as if the AI is not partial sometimes. The game is unbalanced where I can win 5 times in a row vs Azathoth in difficult mode and then loose twice against Yig in easy mode. And if you want to relax after a hard’s day work, avoid this douchy game at all cost! Really a big disappointment where the system is utterly badly thought and the development flawed with the probabilities. AVOID AT ALL COST!

### 1/5 — iPad version sold seperate

*2020-03-14, version 1.5.0*

I do really like this game, but I am severely annoyed that I have to buy the iPad version of the game separate. It really makes me want to stop buying electronic versions of games from Fantasy Flight. This is the only game/app that has asked me to do this.

Sorry Fantasy Flight. I love your board games, but you have to tighten up how you distribute electronically.

### 1/5 — Impossible to win

*2019-02-08, version 1.5.0*

Waste of money. Game relies on the roll of the dice. I played one game where I never achieved a roll to complete the task. Recommend Catan instead

### 1/5 — Trop difficile

*2019-01-06*

Impossible de gagner en dehors du niveau facile....
5€ à la poubelle....
Animations au lancement du scénario trop longue et impossible à passer, c’est rebutant...

### 1/5 — Was great years ago, but now crap.

*2018-11-06, version 1.5.0*

I bought this game years ago, but the lack of support has brought it to its knees literally. I can’t even get through a game at this point without it freezing up. Do not buy unless they fix.

### 1/5 — Worse Cthulhu game ever...

*2018-08-05, version 1.5.0*

Thank god I tried the app before buying the board game.
The gameplay is simply so boring.
You’ve been warned

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I love this game

*2025-09-13, version 1.5.0*

I love this game. I will always love this game. The mechanics, the art, the tone. AAA

### 5/5 — An exceptional app, long overdue for an update

*2024-07-05, version 1.5.0*

Elder Sign Omens is a genuinely excellent digital adaptation of the physical board game from fantasy flight. Gameplay is sleek and balanced, and provides a great deal of challenge.

It was wonderful to see the three digital campaigns translated to the physical as the final three expansions, however there is even more physical content.

Given how prevelent digital adaptations of physical games have become, it would really be wonderful if Fantasy Flight were to update Elder Sign Omens with new monsters, new investigators, online and local multiplayer modes, and a Streets of Arkham mode.

And whilst the decisions made to streamline digital gameplay do just that, it might be interesting to provide a ‘Core Rules’ mode, which replicates the board game even more (replacing investigators if lost, Great Old One combat, Allies… etc).

### 5/5 — Excellent implementation of an excellent game

*2024-05-16, version 1.5.0*

Each turn, your investigator has several choices of locations to investigate. You investigate by rolling dice and trying to match them to symbols on the location card. Each investigator has their own special ability. One is immune to terror effects. Can can do more than one match with a given roll. One gets extra clue tokens that let you reroll. There’s a lot of luck of course. It’s dice after all. But there’s considerable judgment and strategy too. And the theme is well done.

### 5/5 — Great Game !

*2022-08-03, version 1.5.0*

I have played omens for a few years and still enjoy it. I have one suggestion, make difficulty a selection in the pre museum screen and not have a difficulty bond to a old one.

### 5/5 — Very good iOS port.

*2022-06-10, version 1.5.0*

This game runs smooth and is true to the table top game. Very few things like spells work a bit different but once you get the rules down super solid.

The only bummer is if you turn off your phone screen during a movie scene it completely freezes and you lose progress. Exiting by flipping it up out of the way does it too but only during movies. Usually everything loads back in just fine if it is in between turns.

I defeated Nyarlathotep(no spoilers but SUPER tough fight) my break ended during the movie so I had to shut off my screen and when I came back to it, it was stuck and I lost my entire game.

I have screenshots of the win and the movies that play but my unlockable character is still locked.

I will try to win again but that felt like a once in a while good luck streak to win.

P.S. if anyone from Famtasy Flight sees this, is there a way to restore or get my investigator unlocked? If not no biggie but I am curious.

### 5/5 — Great game

*2021-07-07, version 1.5.0*

So the game is great but what needs even more praise is the fact that it works with no glitches ever! I buy so many digital board games and very rarely do they work properly all the time. Well done devs

### 5/5 — Top

*2020-02-27*

Moi j'adore.

### 5/5 — A great game that scratched that lovecraftian itch

*2019-11-01, version 1.5.0*

A wonderful game! A game that has good atmosphere and replay ability. The game is frustrating when your trying to pick up the ropes.

When you make that journey madness and death are almost always a promise. Remember take your time and think about what you are doing and your next step... don’t take too long or that clock will run up and doom for all awaits.

This is a long game with multiple scenarios so you do have the ability to start where you left off. This isn’t going to be a quick one.

Go on download it. Madness awaits you!

### 5/5 — Amazing Games

*2018-05-25, version 1.5.0*

This game is wonderful. At first glance, one might think luck is the only requirement to win the game, but actually technic is also important. Basically you need to choose the CORRECT characters for the mission and to use resources efficiently. But certain adventures (one or two) in the game can be too luck dependent and this is a little bit annoying. DLC contains newly designed adventures and they definitely worse the price. But nevertheless this is the game that you won’t play twice after you succeed, so it is reasonable to make it difficult. LOL.

P.S. Hint: This game can be soloed with only one investigator and it’s interesting (and perhaps helpful) to do so, especially when against SOME monster.
