This game has deep lore and amazing music which creates an immersive experience. I highly recommend this game! Its environment and enemies are challenging and eventful, but your character plays fast and diversely, which provides a comfortable sense of counter. The story and world-building is rich in lore and culture, and flows well throughout the game, but is not done in a way that’s too overbearing. The controls, progression, and customization all feel unique in their selection, while maintaining simplicity that supports an ease of re-entry. Very approachable, especially on controller, it's an absolute staple for off-line gaming. ### 5/5 — Excellent Souls-Vania. *2025-02-19* Great game, honestly in my top ten in the last 5 years. I hope the creators can expand on it, with either expansions or a sequel. The visuals and audio are very fun, good music, well-designed characters and environment, and the setting and story is totally compelling. I always use gamepad to play, and it’s an awesome experience, especially when(imo) fidelity and realism seems to get less important over time in entertainment. I do wish they included full remapping for bindings though. The progression and combat is so balanced, between simplicity and challenge. The journey through the game is its own fun for sure, but what could easily be ended up with, as the game’s mainstay, is actually the bosses. They really offer a strong mix-up of attacks and behaviors, but it feels achievable. They’re a solid flow on their own, weaving through their swings with jumps and dashes, and even one boss with grapple-evasion. I say this, and am let down, because they never really incorporated a replay-ability of the bosses in a single save file, nor any kind of new-game+. There are 9 Save slots though, so maybe using them to capture their replay BEFORE killing them, before their bonfire perhaps. It’s a great grind and adventure, and I’ve even started over from the beginning many times now, to various completion lengths. The character customization and anonymity, as well as the potential for equipment load-out and resettable leveling allocations, make this game just.. peak, for me at least. Please add full controller support ### 5/5 — A Pleasant Surprise *2024-10-10, version 1.3.19* I did not expect to experience the level of enemy diversity, movement tech, weapon diversity, secrets and more that is present here. There is so much lore and it makes you want to discover more. The key to this game is exploration. There are no quest markers, no objectives, or waypoints. Just campfires to rest, enemies to kill, and things to discover. The combat can be frustrating at first but if you learn enemy attack patterns and frequency you can kill most enemies without taking a hit. Definitely one of the best platformers Ive played and the art design is beautiful despite it being 8 bit (which is not a detriment). I do very much enjoy the games styling and the differences between each area you discover. Controller support is (nearly) flawless and works well on Mac.
