## What is Eldermyth?

A once hidden land, inhabited by indigenous villagers and mythical beasts, is under threat from foreign invaders.

Play as one of the beasts, using the weather, your unique powers and your synergy with the different land types, to save villagers, drive off invaders and prevent them from mining and colonising the land. All in the name of chasing a high score! Key features:

- Turn-based roguelike (broughlike) inspired by mechanics from games of Michael Brough (868-HACK, Cinco Paus and Imbroglio)
- Play as 1 of 6 beasts, each with unique rules and powers. Or, play the new Amalgam mode to create a custom beast
- Risk/Reward strategic decisions on how you manage the board
- Game grid is made up of 5 different land types which beasts engage with differently
- Procedural generated game board (land tile placement) means a different game every time
- 6 dynamic weather cycles each with a different impact on invader and/or beast behaviour
- 4 different invader types, each with their own behaviour and purpose/actions
- Local and Game Center high score leaderboards
- Voiceover accessibility
- Full dark mode theme

The gameplay mechanics and rules are hidden and the intention is for them to be discovered through multiple runs. However, for those that want to jump straight in with full knowledge of the game, an in-built guide is included.

### 5/5 — My favorite game

*2025-10-07*

Exceptional game. I literally spend so much time on it. Can't wait for the next update

### 4/5 — Super Fun

*2025-08-12*

Love this game, it is super fun and fast-paced enough to always be entertaining. I will say that moving is sometimes hard using VoiceOver because you have to long press and then drag, and that sometimes feels a bit slow. Otherwise the game is really good!

### 3/5 — Cute game, with a major flaw (Heavy spoilers)

*2025-06-10*

I really wanted to like this game. It takes inspiration from a lot of games I like. Some aspects, like the weather conditions, are a bit volatile for my tastes, but it does a lot of other things right. The fear scaling for completed cities in particular is a very clever and interesting mechanic.

The game has one unforgivable design decision however. When I first started playing, I assumed that enemy spawns scaled with moves taken, similar to Imbroglio. However, they scale with score. Since it is possible to reliably survive indefinitely at the starting scaling, the optimal strategy is to not collect any campfires, and slowly build up an arbitrarily large amount of fear to fuel your actives while unlocking all your passives, before beginning to attempt building your score. This is obviously unfun, but since the game has no objective besides score attack, there is no other way to play.

**Developer response:** Hi there - thanks for trying out the game. There is actually a rule within fear generation to prevent the abuse you refer to. Fear is capped at your score + 20, so you can't stock up on fear and then run rampage. Passives are intentionally accessible, it's the consumables that need to be managed properly. If this was the main drawback influencing your rating, and it (hopefully) goes some way to make the game more fun for you, it would be great if you could reconsider your rating : )

### 5/5 — Great game.

*2025-05-31*

Easy to learn, hard to master. Great little game.

### 4/5 — Fun game, but could use some work with accessibility.

*2025-04-19*

I love this game. It is really fun to outsmart the invaders, and each beast has a completely different strategy. The only real problem I have is with accessibility. I use a screen reader, and it can be a bit difficult to keep track of where everything is on the map, especially when they all move each turn. It would be nice if, after every turn, the game announced where everything moved. It would be something like, you move rock giant from desert at D4 to mountain at D5, settler moves from floodplain at A1 to see at A2, and Camp appears at forest at d5. overall, this game is definitely fun and accessible enough for me to play it as a screen reader user. I do wish it had more though. it could just be my short attention, span, but it feels kind of done after I figured out the strategies for each beast. Yes, the procedurally generated maps are nice, but it would be cool if you could compete for high scores against other players, or even unlock different beasts and abilities by achieving certain scores. that way, I would feel the need to keep playing, even after I figured everything out.

**Developer response:** Hello! All in-game events are now automatically queued and announced (for example, if an invader spawns and where that happens, or when an invader moves and where to. Even when a statistic changes like HP and why it went up/down). This is all now live so please update the app. If you are struggling with any of it then please reach out direct to me through the discord link (found in the settings within the app) and I would be more than happy to support you through it. Also, there are global leaderboards active for each beast and a combined leaderboard. If you click on Game Centre button on any leaderboard it will take you there. More beasts, game modes and features will be coming also. Thanks for supporting the app.

### 5/5 — Game Double Tap shows you how to play!

*2025-04-18*

Hi, everyone! I know the controls and premise threw off a lot of you. You simply don’t know how to move your beast. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the grid map. But, I’m here to enlighten you about everything Eldermyth. First, of all, double tap and keep your finger down, then swipe in a cardinal direction. Up, down, left or right. The beast can not move off of the grid, unless it has a passive ability unlocked that allows it to do so. Some beast can not move over water grid squares. Kieran has greatly improved the need help menu with tip, tricks and a full tutorial for blind and visually impaired. Listen to the entire tutorial. You need to learn why the beast fights the way it does. Sound effects inform you of the beasts movements, attacks and capture of camps and villages. You will be informed by sound effects when you fight, take damage, use your abilities or use your other passives. Use two finger, swipe down from the top of the grid to hear all 20 grid squares. Each grid square has a different invirnonment, based on the procedurally generated map. Which means, the RNG or random factor of map creation. Also, remember, that your beast can not always cross certain grid squares. Towns can not be entered by a beast. Invaders must be defeated before you can enter there grid squares. Remember, each time you kill a hunter, invader or destroy a miner troop, you gain fear. Invaders have health and you must deplete this health to kill them. You have health and you die if your health is depleted. Moving adjacent to an invader will make them attack you. Use your skills of strategy and abilities to kill invaders, hunters and occupational forces before they gain a foothold in your sacred lands! I can’t cover everything, here, but swing by my YouTube channel: Game Double Tap. I’ll show you how to do it! Trust me, i was where you were…lost and frustrated! Now, I’m excited to play this highscore type roguelike every day! It’s awesome! Also, the dev Kieran Hartnett is a great dev who listens to his audience! If you’re looking for more than a simple touch and move game, Eldermyth is your game!

### 4/5 — Accessibility needs to be improved

*2025-04-14*

Good evening I noticed that when you start the game, everything is fine but once you get on the grid and choose your monster that you want to use, it just doesn’t work Especially the gestures When you get to the grid where your monster is I know that you’re supposed to double tap and swipe left or right, but nothing happens

**Developer response:** Hi! I have been working very closely with a user who has impaired sight and uses voiceover accessibility. Through several version updates we have got the feature to a really strong position. Magic tap is fully enabled and all in-game events are now automatically queued and announced (for example, if an invader spawns and where that happens). This is all now live so please update the app. If you are struggling with any of it then please reach out direct to me through the discord link (found in the settings within the app) and I would be more than happy to support you through it. Thanks for supporting the app. P.s. re movement, when you double tap you need to hold your 2nd tap on the screen until you hear the 3 beeps, then you swipe to move

### 4/5 — Zugzwang simulator

*2025-04-12*

It’s a fun zugzwang simulator.

### 5/5 — Brilliantes Puzzle-Roguelike

*2025-04-08*
