### 5/5 — From the developer

*2025-12-13*

In this application, I’ve tried to craft, as it says in the application description, a simple, professional camera. The features are those I value from film cameras I’ve owned in the past. I’ve provided controls that you can use one-handed, that you can mirror for your left or right hand, that give you control over focus and exposure. You can switch between color and black and white workflows. You can choose different aspect ratios, whether it’s the native 4:3, 1:1 or 9:16 for video. I’ve provided support for raw formats, as well as HDR video. My focus has been on the basic photographic features and others, such as those for computational photography will improve over time. By supporting this application, you will be supporting its continued improvement. Thanks in advance!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.1 — 2026-07-24

Sharper, More Reliable Focus Stacks

- Focus Stacking is rebuilt around chained alignment with ghost suppression, so handheld and macro
stacks align more faithfully and reject moving-subject artifacts.

Consistent Results

- Image alignment is now reproducible — the same stack gives the same result every time — and the
quality check no longer lets a misaligned frame slip through.

Faster

- Alignment and the HDR / focus-stacking / astro pipelines are meaningfully quicker, with identical
  image quality.

Fits More Devices

- The focus-stacking memory estimate is recalibrated to real device measurements, so large stacks
fail early with a clear message instead of being terminated mid-run.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-06-25

Rock-Solid Live Camera

- We fixed an entire class of preview freezes that could happen when switching lenses, formats, or camera modes.
Session changes are now handled safely and never block the camera preview.
- Capture is hardened against crashes — if a RAW shot can't be taken, the app falls back to HEIF instead of failing,
and switching lenses no longer interrupts your session.

Faster Shutter

- Reduced shutter lag for still photos and faster start when you begin a video recording.

Content Credentials for RAW

- Content Credentials (C2PA) signing now supports DNG and ProRAW, using the latest signing engine.

Better Thumbnails for RAW Files

- Saved RAW/DNG/ProRAW files now include an embedded preview, so they show a thumbnail in Files, Photos, and other apps.

Easier Controls

- A new press-and-hold "?" button on the Lock Screen camera explains each control.
- Clearer auto/manual mode badge, a labeled Focus control, independent tap-to-focus and tap-to-expose, and a 3:4
  default aspect ratio.

Sharper Stacks, Smaller Memory

- Focus Stacking and HDR alignment are far more robust for handheld and macro shots, and Focus Stacking now uses
much less memory so it completes reliably on more devices.

### 1.0.9 — 2026-05-24

Smarter Alignment Engine

- The alignment system now produces a continuous confidence score for every warp instead of a binary pass/fail. HDR automatically discards brackets with poor alignment scores rather than using bad frames. Feature-Based alignment is now the default across all workflows for better accuracy on challenging scenes.
- Focus stacking alignment uses more GPU horsepower — CLAHE enhancement, feature orientation, sharpness filtering, and descriptor matching all run on Metal — cutting alignment time significantly.

Focus Stacking Quality Leap

- The wavelet focus-stacking path now uses Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT), which is shift-invariant unlike the previous Daubechies-6 approach. Ghosting and halo artifacts on high-contrast edges are substantially reduced.

Physically Correct Color in Every Workflow

- All seven computational-photography workflows (HDR, Focus Stacking, Motion Removal, Motion Blur, Motion Removal, Autostretch, Astro Stacking, and Alignment) now linearize the input working space before processing. Blending, averaging, and merging operations now produce physically correct results — improved shadow/midtone accuracy and more natural color in merged outputs.
- HDR gains per-channel camera response function estimation and recalibrated tone mappers.

Available in Six New Languages

- The app, settings, and documentation are now fully localized in German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and Portuguese.

### 1.0.8 — 2026-04-29

Modern Swift 6 Compliance

- Better reliability: Eliminated unsafe protocol downcasts and fixed main-thread safety issues that were causing crashes in certain edge cases (especially during rapid device orientation changes or background property access).
- Smooth camera controls: Added intelligent throttling to control feedback (auto-exposure, auto-focus) to prevent overwhelming the UI with rapid updates—controls now feel responsive without visual stutter.

Computational Photography

- Motion Removal brightness fix: Corrected an image encoding issue where Motion Removal outputs appeared brighter than the source images. The same source images now produce consistent brightness between Motion Removal and Motion Blur workflows.
- Optimized Metal pipeline: Consolidated all GPU compute kernels into a single unified Metal library for faster load times and cleaner build process.

Stability & Performance

- Rock-solid camera initialization: Improved camera session setup with fallback device detection and multi-thread-safe initialization to handle edge cases more gracefully.
- Thermal management: Optimized Metal resource pooling and test infrastructure to reduce memory spikes during batch operations.

### 1.0.7 — 2026-04-14

HDR & Quality Improvements

- Improved HDR tone mapping: The Durand bilateral tone mapper now adapts its exposure compensation to each scene, producing more consistent brightness across different lighting conditions.
- Better denoising: Fixed a mathematical error in the edge-preserving denoiser that was limiting its effectiveness. HDR images now have cleaner shadows with better-preserved detail.
- Smoother exposure blending: Adjusted fusion parameters for more natural transitions between exposure brackets, especially noticeable in 5+ image stacks.
- Focus Stacking Redesigned: Completely rebuilt algorithms using spatial-domain focus selection and advanced optical flow refinement for sharper images with fewer halos.
- Improved Alignment: Upgraded image alignment system for more robust and accurate handling of handheld and difficult captures.
- Additional Tone Mapping: Added Drago tone mapping and temporal deghosting to our HDR pipeline for expanded creative control and motion handling.
- Astrophotography Stack Calibration: Enhanced calibration frame processing for cleaner deep sky captures.
- Rock-Solid Stability: Fixed long-standing UI freezes and camera deadlocks, replaced the export sheet with a robust document picker, and vastly reduced out-of-memory errors on large stacks.
- Customizable Haptics: Added settings to toggle haptic feedback for rotary controls.
