I hope that could be fixed. I love the correction feature though. I got Elephas through setup and for the included product. It is good, but it seems like the setup version is fairly incomplete, and in comparison to many other AI apps, for example, like Typing Mind, it is not very often updated. The manual, especially for the more advanced features, is also not that in-depth. ### 3/5 — Not a bad app but *2025-04-13, version 3.5* I got Elephas through setup and for the included product. The manual, especially for the more advanced features, is also not that in-depth. ### 3/5 — Unintuitive, little bugs that the flow that could POTENTIALLY be achieved *2025-03-17* this app has potential and can be quite helpful, every once in a good while. but it needs a bit more refinement to reach its full capabilities. I’m looking forward to future updates that could enhance its functionality. For now, I’d rate it 3 out of 5 stars. I expected a bit more, I can’t say I’d rush back anytime soon. Overall, it was a 3 out of 5 experience—average, forgettable, and mildly disappointing. Unintuitive, little bugs that interrupt the flow that could POTENTIALLY be achieved ### 1/5 — DO NOT BUY EVEN A FREE TRIAL! *2023-09-09, version 2.6* Downloaded the app (free trial) deleted it within 5mins of using it. Reasons- 1. The screen was shaking the whole time. Deleted and re-installed it but Did not resolve the issue. 2. Error message pops up EVERY TIME you type something and wanted it written professionally or any other form. 3. Cancelled my “FREE TRIAL” within minutes, however, they still charged me $29.99 after 10days. ### 2/5 — Keyboard flickering *2023-08-12* Not sure why, but this is the only 3rd party keyboard I’m using with this issue. ### 1/5 — Just a prototype *2023-08-11* Compared to the Mac version, this is some kind of sidekick app to pair with it. Don’t expect much, needs a new product team to focus on this companion app entirely. Just watch for updates until then. Dev responded to me, will update one day once major release takes place. This really should be in test pilot and not production. I appreciate your feedback. ### 3/5 — Error? *2023-08-09* Why do I receive the following error, “ You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.” I’m able to use chatGPT on OpenAI, why won’t my key work here? **Developer response:** OpenAI requires your card info to be added. I appreciate your feedback. ### 2/5 — Hard to use *2023-07-07* It’s really not obvious how to get this to work. Email replies don’t take the original into account—they don’t even scan unhighlighted text unless you type a blank line or something first—and chat replies in Messages don’t seem to do much either. My attempt to grammar check this actual review spins forever. My attempt to rewrite it does similar. The keyboard replaces highlighted text as a prompt, completes highlighted text, and translates ok. That’s about all I’ve been able to do with it. The keyboard itself is typo prone for some reason as well, and the hold space for the dashboard bit was a) not obvious and b) removes the standard ability to position the cursor by holding space bar. I also can’t find where to replace my API key if I cycle it—now that it’s entered I just see a “activated via setapp” message on that screen, but not my own key. I also can’t find where to set the GPT models being used, etc. This is super super rough compared to the desktop version and it needs a lot more bake time. Right now it’s not quite as useful as Grammarly, which is saying something. ### 1/5 — Keyboard *2023-07-02* The keyboard either flickers, doesn’t work, or says it’s not registered. ### 3/5 — The keyboard does not work *2023-06-24* The keyboard either “flickers” or doesn't work at all. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Intrigued, Now Skeptical *2026-05-07* Local, private AI chat for Apple Notes & Pages on iOS would be a killer app. But, after downloading it appears only files/web/url sync to a Super brain is accessible on iOS. Have reached out to Elephas support, willing to upgrade the user rating if iOS confirmed. **Developer response:** Hi, I apologize for the inconvenience. Apple Notes' programmatic access is limited and only works on Mac. If added on Mac, the Super Brain will be accessible on iOS though. ### 1/5 — Remove it *2025-11-29, version 11.4312* The app wants money for something they should pay you for it’s not working using other ai to try and find solutions frustrating. ### 1/5 — Initial Hype *2025-10-09* Could now accomplish the same result at no expense. ### 1/5 — Unusable *2025-07-14, version 11.107* Unfortunately there is an issue with the API key. And when you follow the steps to get one that doesn’t work. I suggest the developers fix this and then I’d be keen to try it again. ### 1/5 — So much potential… *2025-06-07, version 11.107* What a useless app. The one and only ai keyboard functionality it has, is not working. If you still face issues, please email us at support at elephas.app ### 1/5 — No custom AI endpoints like the desktop version. *2025-02-04* The entire reason I was so interested is Elephas was because it allowed me to use my own self hosted AI instead of OpenAI. However this doesn’t seem to be an option in the mobile version. Which is now a total non-starter for me. Is adding custom Ollama and OpenAI URLs on the roadmap for the mobile version? **Developer response:** Hi, Yes, this has been added now. Please check. ### 1/5 — The app uses GPT 3.5 in 2024😩 *2024-07-21* I don't understand why AI developers skimp on providing a quality AI engine for their apps. Despite the clunky UI of this keyboard, which lacks swipe typing and spell checking, it only offers basic AI functions powered by the outdated GPT 3.5 model. The developer needs to realize we're in 2024. Even if there hasn't been significant UI improvement, upgrading the AI engine to something more competent than the outdated 3.5 is essential. ### 1/5 — Cant authenticate *2024-06-18, version 3.23* Downloaded via Set app on Mac, have entered OpenAI API but key getting ’Activation failed. Open elephas app’ error, when you open the app there is nothing to fix or activate! rubbish. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2024-03-15, version 3.2* The Keys screen in the app where you enter your API keys is blank. So you can’t set the app up and it doesn’t work. The Elephas app on Setapp on Mac says we can use the mobile app for free with a Setapp subscription. I use it in English and Spanish and it does a great job of correcting grammar and also paraphrasing. I look forward to seeing how it improves in the future.
