### 3/5 — Good bulb

*2021-01-08, version 1.7.1*

This is a good bulb compared to others , bit more expensive than them BUT the app needs a serious update. Bluetooth functionality seems to loose connection regularly and switch on and off, this I find strange when all my other Bluetooth devices work fine barr this one. Really don’t think the bulb is at fault as this connection loss is happening randomly and not constantly. Lost a star for this issue.

### 4/5 — Works with iOS 13 now

*2020-01-05, version 1.7.1*

I have 3 Avea bulbs that no longer worked after updating to iOS 13. I can control them again, after recent update to Avea app. I had not tried for a while and just now noticed Avea app got an update, and things seem to work again. Thanks for giving a little more life to a discontinued product. I like the simplicity of the Bluetooth-controlled Avea bulbs, happy to use for a while longer after being unhappy thinking they’ll no longer work (except with my old iPod touch that runs older iOS version). Thanks. (Too bad Apple Watch support has been removed.)

### 2/5 — Everything was fine till ios13

*2019-09-26, version 1.7*

Had problems every once and while before iOS 13 but nothing major. Now since the update I can’t even change my lights they are stuck on the last setting I had them on which was the least used setting I normally would use just happened to use it that day. Now I can’t even have my lights on in my office because I can’t work with that light setting and can’t change it. The app just sits there and doesn’t respond to anything. Makes my expensive light bulbs worthless if I can’t change them.

### 1/5 — No longer works with iOS 13

*2019-09-26, version 1.7*

The app and bulbs are now useless under iOS 13. Please update the app. I have tried several other app-controller color changing lightbulbs and none of them even come close to the quality provided by Avea. I don’t understand why they’re no longer being made.

### 3/5 — Was ok, needs an update

*2019-09-24, version 1.7*

App hangs on iOS 13. Which means my lightbulbs are useless until there is an update

### 1/5 — iOS 13 killed app and bulb functionality

*2019-09-21, version 1.7*

While avea still works with ios12 devices it doesn’t with 13. Whatever Bluetooth changes Apple made and Elgato not updating the app, the app and bulbs are now useless.

### 3/5 — Does not work with ios13

*2019-09-20, version 1.7*

Just updated to iOS 13, app does not respond to any gestures. Please fix

### 4/5 — Good for waking up on dark mornings. App suggestions

*2018-12-03, version 1.7*

The bulb is great for offering different lighting moods, and the wake up timer works amazing!

I must say that a function that would take this product over the top would be a sleep timer.

Currently there is no timer to turn the light off. As a suggestion a "sleep timer" or count down timer would be great. This way you can fall as sleep with a gradual fade. Similar to the wake up feature.

I plan to buy a few more of these things for around the house and would really appreciate the consideration on enhancing the functionality.

Thanks Folks

### 2/5 — Siri Shortcuts Integration

*2018-09-29, version 1.7*

Add Siri shortcuts integration it would make the use of the bulbs so much more amazing

### 3/5 — Okay, and Doesn’t Work with Apple Watch 4

*2018-09-26, version 1.7*

The description of the app mentions using it with an Apple Watch in multiple places. But there is no way to use this with my Apple Watch.

Needs:

1. A timer to turn lights off.
2. The wake up light starts off way too bright and wakes me up right away. It really needs to start off dimmer.

### 3/5 — Decent...

*2018-09-21, version 1.7*

I’m satisfied with the color customization, and the level of brightness control is nice. I really wish there was a timer feature to turn off.
**UPDATE **
As of iOS 12/watchOS 5, the app is no longer working on the Apple Watch.

### 3/5 — Looking for Further Support

*2018-04-03, version 1.6*

With today’s release of iOS 11.3, HomeKit Support should now be possible through software authentication as opposed to the device itself needing Apple’s special chip to ensure authenticity. This means, theoretically, that a firmware/software upgrade could allow devices designed before HomeKit was even a thing, to work with HomeKit.

It would also be nice to see the app take advantage of the iPhone X screen size.

### 2/5 — Great bulb/lamp but app is a let down

*2018-02-23, version 1.6*

I have the lamp and love the design but the features on the app are really disappointing. The preset moods are ‘ok’, there’s no colour wheel to really pick your colour for example I like the deep orange in the ‘magic hour’ setting but can’t choose it as a solid colour.

I can’t believe there’s no sleep timer and the wake up light is limited to waking up to a bland but subtle white light. The reason I got this light was because my friend has a similar which fills the room with a orangey yellow glow in the morning which I was convinced was the sun rising through the window.

Otherwise, the connectivity is smooth and the battery lasts ages.

Please update the app and it’s features

### 2/5 — Great but No HomeKit integration

*2017-11-19, version 1.6*

It will be so awesome if we could connect it through Apple Home.

### 2/5 — Good bulbs. Poor app support.

*2017-10-11, version 1.6*

I’ve got a mix of Avea bulbs and Hue Bulbs in my house. Both bulbs are bright and competent. What’s letting Avea down is the app.

Why are we limited to a handful of solid colours from these dynamic bulbs? Where’s the colour wheel? Why can’t we make our own scenes. Come on Elgato, pull your finger out.

### 3/5 — Great app but...

*2017-07-28, version 1.5.1*

Not a fan of the latest update for iPad showing options all the time. Was loads better before just showing the bulb moods as it still does on iPhone. HomeKit capability would blow the doors off this bulb.... would fill my house with them.....

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No more support is provided even though product is still sold

*2019-11-11, version 1.7*

The Avea Flare is still on the markets even if not produced anymore by the company but the company has decided to stop all app support. The first signs came with WatchOS 5 when the app disappeared from the Apple Watch. Now the app is not working properly on iOS 13.1 with the function to change the wake up time causing the app to crash. I believe this is not the way to treat customers who purchased this expensive item especially when it is still available on the market. My negative reviews won’t stop here if there is no change in the way this app is supported. I’m not upset at the company, I’m just sorry for the customers who may be lured to purchase something expensive which no longer works as intended. The same kind of lamp can be purchased from Philips and the support is a lot better.

### 1/5 — Return your lights!

*2019-11-01, version 1.7*

Useless in iOS 13. No support. Product has been abandoned. I can’t use my lights anymore as with iOS 13 the app just crashes making $150 worth of lights completely useless.

### 1/5 — iOS13 Support?

*2019-10-26, version 1.7*

Elgato/Eve please update your app to work with iOS13, loved your Avea Smart Bulb but it’s useless now as the app keeps crashing. Please issue a fix.

### 1/5 — Useless without update

*2019-10-25, version 1.7*

This app (and therefore the device) is unusable now after upgrading to the newest iOS. Please update the app.

### 1/5 — No longer supported

*2019-10-23, version 1.7*

Had this product for over 3 years, they’ve not decided to stop supporting it and as such, these bulbs are all but useless. Rip

### 1/5 — App No longer supported

*2019-10-22, version 1.7*

App not been updated for over a year. iOS 13 is just too much for it and it no longer works. But pi’’ed off to be honest

### 1/5 — Absolutely useless since upgrade!

*2019-10-18, version 1.7*

Absolutely useless since upgrade. I’ve even tried deleting it and reinstalling it and now it’s terrible. The app freezes constantly every time without fail and has zero functionality. I can’t set a theme or my wake up light alarm.

The bulbs have zero function now other than switching them on and off at wall light switch.

Tried to delete and add the bulbs which allows but nothing I can do with them since the app freezes every time.

If you have these and they currently work, DONT upgrade!

Going to have to invest in a different brand since these 4 bulbs are now USELESS since the upgrade!

Very unhappy!

### 1/5 — Broken app. Unusable bulb.

*2019-09-30, version 1.7*

App now freezes in iOS 13.1.1. Unusable. And because the app is unusable, the bulbs are useless.

### 1/5 — This App Will Not Work With iOS 13 onwards

*2019-09-26, version 1.7*

I've had Avea bulbs for nearly 2 years and find this app basic but useful. I updated my iPhone to iOS 13.1 and the Avea app no longer works - it hangs and crashes.

I contacted Elgato who said "Our Avea products have been end-of-life for quite some time now. Hence the Avea app won't be updated any longer, i.e. isn't supported under iOS 13, unfortunately".

So, that's that then, I'll either have to keep an old iPhone at iOS 12.4.1 to allow me to use my Avea lightbulbs or I'll have spend quite a bit of money to replace bulbs that would work perfectly well if Elgato could be bothered to maintain their 'older' products.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work on iOS 13

*2019-09-26*

App basically doesn’t function at all, most just hangs

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great but wouldn’t let me pick an alarm

*2026-07-14, version 1.7.1*

I used this app lots until I lots the lamp, found it again and discovering all of the things. I look at the alarm and it says you can pick a song! I was very happy but every time I would click it, it would just freeze and not do anything, in summery the pick a song for the alarm was not working other than that I great app would recommed

### 5/5 — No Iwatch support?

*2021-12-05, version 1.7.1*

the box says that the Bluetooth light support Apple Watch, but I cannot find any Iwatch app that I can use to shut the light with my watch… any suggestions?
Btw, I have this light on my nightstand since 3 years and still work like a charm.
Very good product!!

### 5/5 — App crashes

*2019-11-16, version 1.7.1*

App appears to no longer work and crashes frequently. Have tried on both iPhone X and iPad Pro.

Update: app is now working very well! Thanks for the iOS 13 update!

### 5/5 — Good app and light

*2017-09-27, version 1.5.1*

Very good to change between different lighting options and mainly to wake up with the lights.

Please allow us to set a time for it to turn itself off, progressively fading to make you sleep better.

Also, an option to set up the wake up light for many days so we don’t need to do it every night.

### 5/5 — Just received this lamp

*2017-06-07, version 1.5.1*

At unboxing no problems with app or lamp, will update later.

### 5/5 — Works perfect

*2016-04-17, version 1.5.1*

Good app and good apple watch app..works perfect ..

### 5/5 — Great

*2016-02-06, version 1.5.1*

This thing is really not bad for £20 but there is one thing that I would like to be able to do and that would be create my own presets for like when I am watching a movie or just relaxing please

### 5/5 — Great Product

*2015-11-20, version 1.5*

Awesome light bulbs, it would be really great if you could please add a sleep fade option where you select how long you want the bulb to fade out for until it's off. Also can this be integrated with apples home kit so the lamp can be controlled by Siri? Thanks! 😊

### 5/5 — Very good quality product worth the money

*2015-11-09, version 1.3*

I highly recommend this product it is easy to set up no bridge required just a Bluetooth connection I recommend buying two of these in order to get a better effect, although one will still be alright.

### 5/5 — I love it

*2015-08-23, version 1.3*

Easy to install and easy to use this product has a lot potential please integrate it to IFTT system
