I cancel account immediately. Was told fees aren’t refundable. This is pre-payment for next 12 months of “services” that aren’t going to be used. Support doesn’t offer any sort of recourse but says you can still use the service you’ve already paid for. No thanks. ### 1/5 — Stole my money *2024-06-12, version 4.97* Do NOT fall for this scam! I tried closing my account and withdrawing the money I put in and they kept claiming it went in my bank (it DEFINITELY did not go into my bank) and I responded with screenshots of my transaction history. When I responded with those screenshots I did not hear anything back from them and now I have got fight for my money back! ### 1/5 — Wall St with balayage and botched botox *2024-05-24, version 4.95* Ellevest is the love bomber you date until you realize you get the bare minimum & none of your needs are met. When you want to break up - they morph into the true predatory, gaslighting, narcissistic loser that you’ll spend the next 5 years talking about in therapy. Divorce would actually be more pleasant than cancelling the subscription. I had attempted to cancel last YEAR - to my surprise I was billed AGAIN for an app that hadn’t been on my phone for a year. Thought the cancellation would be easier this time around, but I’m still in limbo with slow responses and no answers. Difficult and inaccessible process. The finance bro with amphetamines in his Patagonia pocket has stronger ethics and would refund you the $54. But not the app built for women. Best of luck to anyone who uses the app. ### 1/5 — Terrible app/website *2024-05-21, version 4.95* Very concerning when the website won’t even load for me to be able to check my account details. I got so frustrated that I just wanted to cancel entirely. Well, I can’t even make it to the page to cancel! It won’t load at all. I’ve tried multiple browsers, laptop vs. cell phone. You are supposedly supposed to be managing thousands of my dollars? No thanks I’ll go to a real bank. ### 1/5 — Don’t trust this company *2024-05-04, version 4.95* I got Ellevest back in August 2022. Loved the mission/message and it seemed like a great idea! I signed up, linked my account and was waiting on the approval on their end to get going. Months went by and I never heard from them, assuming it just wasn’t working. Fast forward 6 months, without knowledge of my account being approved, they start charging me for their subscription service. Meanwhile I have no money in Ellevest because I didn’t even know it was approved. Yet they still started to charge me - for 2 years. I never noticed, my bad, but they took hundreds from me. The WORST part? Their customer service. I tried to cancel and heard nothing. If you don’t trust me, call them right now - they won’t pick up. They don’t pick up. I had to write a message on their TikTok and Instagram pages for them to give me the time Of the day. It truly infuriates me how you can trust a company and they can be so disrespectful. Don’t use Ellevest!!!!!!!!!!! ### 1/5 — The whole system is a joke *2024-04-24, version 4.95* Are you kidding? I got 2 month free coupon and I used it. And I was glad that I could join this new AI investing service. But since my free month is almost gone, I'm still processing. This system kept saying "It's gonna be processed in 2-3 business days" And I'm waiting almost 2 months? This whole system is a joke. Maybe my small amount of money is not fun for them. ### 1/5 — Cancelation is extremely shady, and they’ll still charge you *2024-04-18, version 4.95* I liked Ellevest fine but wasn’t investing enough to make the $12 monthly fee worth it, so decided to cancel my account. They make it so difficult to cancel and make you specify exactly how much you want to move out of your account without letting you select the entire balance. Then they wait 7 days to transfer your balance, meaning it’s grown at least by a few cents. Even if you have $0.01 leftover, this renders your account as still active and they will continue to charge you. Very shady and scummy, I won’t be returning. ### 1/5 — No Longer Made For Women *2024-04-17, version 4.95* I used ellevest to have a separate account that gave me benefits on shopping and to build my portfolio. Soon I was watching my spouses investments soar and mine not move an inch, so I switched out of the investment platform and onto his. I continued to use the spending card that gave me cash back on places I frequently shopped at and loved the look and feel of the card. I then received an email from ellevest that they would be deactivating cards, and that section of ellevest (Save & Spend) since they were taking a different direction as a company. Disappointed, I shredded my card, transferred my money to another account, and moved on with my life assuming that my account would be cancelled since that was the only account I had open with them. A year later, I was charged $97 fee for ellevest despite the fact that my only account was deactivated. I emailed support only for them to tell me a week later that fee is non refundable and I would not receive my money back even though I didn’t even know I still had an account because I was told it was cancelled. Now I am out $97 for no apparent reason. Shady business practices and support system. For a company that is supposed to be about uplifting women and helping them grow financially, they sure do like stealing women’s money. ### 1/5 — ELLEVEST IS A SCAM! *2024-04-11, version 4.94* SCAM. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Their Customer service May not even exist. I’ve called multiple times & left multiple voicemails to no avail. ### 1/5 — Waste of time| SCAM *2024-04-11, version 4.94* I signed up for Ellevest years ago. probably 2018 is when I started investing and when I did not see a way I could get my money out, I stopped investing. I got a new phone with a new number shortly after and since they have a two step verification, and I have no access to the old number, I am locked out of my account. For years I periodically try to gain access by calling their customer service number (The ONLY other option to gain access to this account) and as many times as I called I’ve NEVER got in touch with anyone.. but today I have time. I’ve been calling, each time I get on the phone it says my wait time is 3 minutes. I’ll sit on the line for at least 5 before the robot apologizes & tell me to leave a voicemail. I am currently on call #7 and I won’t stop til I get my funds I’ve invested. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THEM! ### 1/5 — I really like it but I cannot access my tax forms *2024-03-31, version 4.93* I like it but 1) prices went up to crazy amounts and 2) I can’t access my tax forms!!! Every time I try I’m sent to the website, which hangs, then send me to a page saying they’re “making improvements.” They should not “make improvements” during tax season when it’s the only way to access tax forms! ### 2/5 — Opposite of Ellevest’s Values *2024-03-13, version 4.92* I wanted to like this app for the same reason a lot of other women did. It’s a nice idea to have investing centered around women and their unique attributes opposite against financial advice typically tailored to men, but this service isn’t it. The app and website are very frustrating to use. There is essentially zero pressure formation of past performance. Sure it looks visually very nice and simple, but I have zero indication on how my investments are performing. Sure you can see nice little forecasts on what Ellevest THINKS it will return, but there is nothing on what ACTUALLY HAPPENED. I event tried to pull all dividends and interests earned over the last year to do the math myself but you can’t even export anything. I couldn’t even copy and past the information into an spreadsheet. It fees almost manipulative by trying to hide this information And if you try to actually contact someone forget it. Even their fact robo chat bot will not answer you. I cannot recommend this product. It’s pretty disheartening to see an app targeting women and delivering so little. ### 2/5 — Return info impossible to find *2024-03-12, version 4.92* The returns info is obscured in the app and I can’t find it anywhere. Nothing in the FAQs was helpful, and the virtual assistance chat was completely useless. ### 1/5 — App is TERRIBLE and won’t let you cancel!!!! *2023-12-18, version 4.88* I had to go to my bank to cancel it this. And I just realized it went from $1 to $5 WITHOUT my permission!!! Scam. Scam. I want all of my money back from June. The company has purposely delayed the withdraw/movement of my funds which is consistent with other people’s experience as well. Additionally, the company was founded by a man, so there goes your by-women for-women angle. ### 1/5 — I like the company and hate the app *2023-10-01, version 4.82* Literally every single time I try to open the app, I get hit with a notification that it has been updated and I can’t log in again until I update my app. It is the single most frequently updated app on my phone out of dozens and dozens of app. What the heck is going on over there that requires infinite updates? Then it doesn’t accept my Face ID until I log in again and their password requirements are so weird compared to other banking sites that I can never quite remember what I used and have to look it up. Takes me like 5-10 minutes every time I want to use the app just to log in. I usually give up and just get on my computer. It’s an okay robo trader but would make more money if I had gone with my work investors ### 1/5 — No longer functional *2025-03-01, version 5.00.0* Ellevest de-invested in women who are not in the high or ultra high net worth bracket, and therefore sold off their digital investing part of the business. So, the app no longer works. Pretty poor user experience. ### 1/5 — App no longer exists *2025-02-27, version 5.00.0* I used Ellevest app daily, for years. Yesterday I tried to log in and it no longer exists! Gone with no warning! I want the app back! ### 1/5 — App features lacking *2024-11-06, version 4.99.5* The app doesn’t update your balances except once a day. They have no features and don’t even tell you your rate of return. I’m getting tired of sticking with them but I want to support the cause. ### 1/5 — Pick a different investment platform *2024-08-16, version 4.99.1* This company did not grow my contributions at all. I did a withdrawal of what I’d contributed over 2 years that equated to what I could’ve just put into a savings account. I can’t delete my account fully, they still have my bank information, and the subscription to renew in 2025. I am contacting my bank to block any future withdrawals from my account. Go for a traditional investment firm. I am anger to believe in a woman owned and founded company- I won’t advocate for this one. ### 1/5 — Beware these scammers! *2024-08-09, version 4.99.1* I closed my account and withdrew all my funds. Ellevest continued charging me $9 a month. When I contacted them, they told me I had $0.70 in the account, and that they would refund the charges. So I followed their steps to close the account AGAIN. They still kept the account open, and kept charging me. They did no return the fees, as their rep promised. DO NOT OPEN AN ELLEVEST ACCOUNT. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOREVER. Now I have to go to my bank to keep their greedy hand out of my bank account. ### 1/5 — Do not sign up. *2024-08-08, version 4.99.1* I have tried to cancel my subscription 6 times, they keep pulling money from my account and I even deleted the app entirely . Do not sign up for this unless you want a lifetime of them drafting from your account. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — I may not be a man, but I’m still glad I downloaded *2023-12-04, version 4.87* This app outperforms any other investment app I’ve tried so far. My only gripe is that I have to update the app every single time I go to check on it. Push small updates without making me go to the App Store, or do larger updates less often. At the very least don’t have the app send my text code if I have to update before I can use it. Other than that minor nuisance, though, I 100% recommend Ellevest ### 5/5 — This app is the internet explorer of investment apps *2023-01-16, version 4.65* slow ### 5/5 — Best Roboinvestor *2022-09-22, version 4.56.1* Do you want to invest and make more money than other roboinvestors like Betterment? Go with this. Don’t listen to the negative reviews - I also had a problem with my account where I wasn’t able to log in because I’d changed my number and my verification code was going to my old number. The phone number for customer service wasn’t working, so I emailed them. I think I actually got help by calling again and then pressing the button for “cancel my account” and that actually got me to talk with a person. As soon as I got the person, she helped me immediately. So yeah - just confront your tech issues as usual and you should be perfectly fine with Ellevest. I’ve used betterment and also Wealthsimple - this is the best roboinvestor if you want higher gains under the same risk level. I subscribed to their free newsletter for months before I gave them the dime. The articles are thoughtful about the roles of women+, bipoc, and lgbt people in the economy, with plenty of citations to reliable sources! I continue to be shocked when Ellevest is the only place I see statistics about how hard women are being hit in the recession. (The emails also have excellent memes.) Once I was sold I opened a Build Wealth account, and started putting in $50/month. (There is no minimum balance!!) I chose Social Impact investing because I want my dollars to make a difference. I love how they have little symbols in the app to indicate which specific funds in my portfolio are sustainability focused, woman-led, or oriented towards community development. After seeing the success with my first account, I opened a retirement account with their Core Impact portfolio (I wanted the increased stability for my retirement). Their company is super straightforward. I never thought I would be investing this much at age 24, but I trust them. In regular emails, Ellevest also discusses critical issues including their own successes and shortcomings regarding feminism, anti-racism, anti-ableism, and as an lgbtq ally. They cover the BLM movement, and focus on relevant articles during the celebratory months for every marginalized group. (Disability month is closest to my heart.) Ellevest has a stunning user interface and is easy to use. I love that the app focuses on building wealth through social consciousness. With that said, this app is best for people starting on their investment journey or for those who really want to set it and forget it. If you are interested in picking stocks and making choices, there are other platforms better suited to your needs. ### 5/5 — Honestly powerful *2020-08-14* I’ve had the app for a few months now and I’ll be honest I don’t completely understand everything about investing yet. however, I do know a little bit more than I did before I started. The app makes you feel less scared about investing which as a 21-year-old was honestly the best part. There’s also great articles that teach you about all sorts of different things that I never would have learned from School or my parents (who both don’t invest). I also find it really cool that you can choose to only invest in female ran companies. Overall, I find this app to be really powerful because I can now say I am investing for my future and tell my friends about it so hopefully more young people will start. However, it takes such a long time for these updates/bug fixes to kick in. For example, Touch ID sign in for the app works well with older phones but the Face ID sign in is still not available.
