## What is EM Triage?

EM Triage helps emergency department triage nurses and physicians apply a five-level triage method to adults and children at the bedside, from what they see, in a few taps.

How it works
1. Tap Adult (17 and over) or Child (under 17). For a child, tap the age group: under 3 months, 3 months to 3 years, or over 3 years.
2. Pick the presenting complaint from plain groups, or search for it.
3. Answer at most two screens: tick the vital signs that apply, then tick any other findings, or tap the closest match from a short list.

The result shows the acuity level (I to V), the time-to-nurse and time-to-physician targets, reassessment guidance, and how the level was set: the finding that set it, or the complaint's starting level. Lines under every result name the method's edition (2012), say it is not updated to the 2025 revision, and say it supports, and does not replace, clinical judgment.

Features
• Adult and paediatric triage in one app. A label on every triage screen shows which is in use and, for a child, the age group.
• Children's temperature rows are shown for the age group chosen.
• Complaints sit in plain groups, arrests first, with a search that understands British spellings and common bedside abbreviations such as SOB, CP and OD.
• Every list runs most urgent first.
• Quick reference: the five levels and their time targets, children's normal heart and breathing rates by age, and the paediatric GCS (under 2 years).
• Large tap targets and a dark theme for night shifts.
• Works fully offline. No account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics. The app never asks for patient details, and nothing you enter leaves the phone.

Method: EM Triage applies a published five-level, complaint-oriented emergency triage method, 2012 edition, in its own wording and structure.

Edition: EM Triage follows the 2012 edition of the method. Revised guidelines were released in 2025, and EM Triage has not been updated to them. Where your department uses the 2025 edition or its own protocol, follow that.

Independence: EM Triage is an independent app. No publisher of a triage scale made or reviewed it.

Important: EM Triage is not a substitute for clinical judgment. It supports clinical judgment, triage training and institutional triage protocols; it does not replace them. The triage nurse or clinician is responsible for every triage decision. EM Triage has not been cleared, approved or registered by any regulatory authority. Outputs are advisory only.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-23

• Paediatric triage: complaints for patients under 17, with children's heart and breathing rates by age and the paediatric GCS in Quick reference.
• Age groups: tap Adult (17 and over) or Child, then the child's age group: under 3 months, 3 months to 3 years, or over 3 years. Children's temperature rows match the age group, and the screen label shows it.
• Simpler screens: at most two per complaint, vital signs then other findings, or one closest-match list. Every list runs most urgent first.
• New complaint groups, arrests first, and a search that understands British spellings and bedside abbreviations.
• Clearer result: "How this level was set" names the finding that set the level, or the complaint's starting level.
• Every result now says which edition the app follows and that it supports, and does not replace, clinical judgment.
• Plainer wording throughout.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-28

Clarity improvements to the modifier screens, based on emergency physician feedback.

- Vital sign findings are now grouped by dimension — Respiratory, Circulatory, Level of Consciousness, and Temperature — so you can scan one system at a time.
- Options within each group are ordered mild to severe, matching how severity is usually read.
- Pain screens now state the pain axis in plain language rather than CTAS terminology. The full CTAS term is retained in the breadcrumb and in "Why this level".
- Pain options are grouped acute first, then chronic.
- The Continue button now reads "No findings — continue" when nothing is selected, making it clear that recording no findings is a valid answer.
- A new References section in About links to the official CTAS source documents this app's triage logic derives from.

All CTAS acuity levels, encoded labels, and source citations are unchanged.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-02
