Build a team of emoji and send them into battle. Your front emoji clashes with your opponent's front, the winner stays, and the last emoji standing wins. Easy to learn, hard to master. HOW IT PLAYS Pick up to 3 emoji, then send your team. Type beats type, like rock paper scissors with 15 elements arranged in a ring, so every type beats some and loses to others. If types are even, the higher power level wins. If power ties too, both fighters are knocked out. DEEP STRATEGY Over 1,900 emoji fighters, each with its own types, a power level from 0 to 11, and many with special abilities. Certain teams trigger combos for huge effects: spread wildfire, freeze the enemy front, summon reinforcements, steal a fighter, or flip the rules entirely. Read your rival, pick the perfect counter, and watch the tide turn. GAME CHANGING SPECIALS Reverse the whole type ring, force sudden death, jackpot the entire board, hex a foe into a frog, drain their power, revive your fallen, douse fire, dispel buffs, and far more. Counter play arrives too. New specials strike at specific threats (a dragon-slaying lancer, holy ground that banishes the undead, an officer who confiscates enemy abilities), and for the first time there are combos that counter other combos, including a counterspell that shuts down the enemy's combos for the whole round. SMARTER COMBOS Combos now check their members at the moment they fire. If an enemy transforms one of your fighters before your combo goes off, the combo fizzles, so transformation effects are finally a real answer to combo teams. Your own shapeshifters still keep their combos, and fighters that go down swinging still set off their explosive payoffs. FOUR MAIN TYPES The 15 elemental types are now organized under four main types: Ember (heat and energy), Tide (fluid and cold), Terra (matter and life), and Aether (the unseen). BETTER iMESSAGE BATTLES Play Again: rematch straight from the result screen, in its own fresh bubble. Draft Next Turn: after watching your round play out, pick your next team right away and send both in a single message. Every message now advances a full round. Trade screen: drag the divider between the two emoji grids to give either list more room. Double tap to reset. POLISH The typing dots now behave like real iMessage typing, appearing only before an opponent's message, with a suspenseful pause before the final pick of a close match. The How to Play captions are now localized in all 13 languages, and the wiki is tidier with Specials merged into the Types tab. ### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-02 Emoji Battle 1.2.1 WHAT'S NEW See what actually happened Tap any combo or special in the battle log and you now get a full receipt: every emoji it touched, its power before and after, the statuses it applied or cleared, who joined the fight or was knocked out, and both teams before and after when the lineup changed. Live team bar in iMessage Your iMessage battles now show both lineups in their current formation while the fight plays out, stepping in time with the replay. Tap any fighter to check its power, types and statuses, or collapse the bar to give the transcript more room. Tap any fighter in solo battles too The same receipt is now one tap away in bot battles and Pass and Play. Skip the animation A new Skip button in iMessage jumps straight to the finished battle and the result. My Collection A trophy room on the home screen showing only the fighters you own: your star fighter, your collection stats, and a wall of every emoji you have earned, grouped by type. An interactive How to Play Pick a fighter and watch that fighter's round play out, with every example built from the real type ring, real power levels and a real combo it can form. Learn the rules in the Wiki A new Order tab lays out exactly what resolves when, from round start to the final clash, including which side is processed first. The Types tab now explains type combos too. BALANCE Abilities now resolve before combos at the start of a round, so a combo lands on the board your fighters' abilities left behind. Three fighters that removed enemies for free at round start now pay a price. The bomb goes up with its own blast, the sinkhole can swallow its own side, and the abductor leaves the field with its catch. FIXES The battle log now says whose special fired, not just what it did. The team bar no longer drifts out of step after a shuffle, a steal or a transform. Fighters taken out by an effect are now narrated instead of quietly vanishing. The typing dots build suspense before a result and never linger after one. The fighter sort control in the iMessage picker is translated again. ### 1.2 — 2026-07-26 ELEMENTS ALIGN Every emoji now has a type that actually fits it. We retyped nearly 1,000 fighters, so fire things burn, spooky things haunt, storms crackle with Electric, and the meme legends finally get the typing they deserve. NEW: TYPE COMBOS • Field three fighters of the same type to unleash that element's triad, like Overload for triple Electric. • Play a themed type sequence in order, light into shadow for Total Eclipse, to bend an entire round. • 24 new combos in all, and they stack with everything already in your collection. THE WIKI KNOWS • Combo cards now spell out exactly how to trigger each type combo, in order or any order. • Every fighter's page lists the type combos its typing can help you form. IMESSAGE BATTLES • The full detailed battle log arrived. Tap any clash to see which emoji caused what, and why it won. • Sort the team picker by Type, Power, or Name, alongside search and type filters. • Combo names and effect removals are now narrated in your language, matching the main app word for word. • Trades got a search box and filters on the "You give" side too, not just "You want". BATTLE SCREEN GLOW UP • Your team now sits on your side of the tray, with fronts facing each other. • In a close bot match you might catch your opponent "typing" while the tension builds. • The end of match XP receipt is easier to read, with no bubbles bleeding through. COMPOSER AND PALETTE • Swipe up to expand the fighter palette and see far more of your roster at once. • Grids now adapt to your screen, roomier on iPad and Pro Max, tighter on smaller phones, and they ease off as your text size grows. • Combos show a plain language "How it works" badge instead of a generic sparkle. No more closing and reopening the conversation to see their turn. • Fixed a bug where opening a game in one conversation could briefly show a battle from another chat. • Every round's battle replay now plays out beat by beat, with effects and haptics, not just the first one. • Match results and the Send Move button appear right when the fight ends. No more long pause after the final round. • If a move can't be staged in Messages, you now get a clear alert instead of the move quietly disappearing. • Games started on a newer app version now explain that an update is needed instead of showing an empty menu.
