### 4/5 — Good but latest version crashes

*2025-11-06, version 2.0.16*

The app won’t open any more. It shows the splash page, briefly shows part of the main page, then closes

### 4/5 — Good app, a suggestion

*2025-10-02*

With the latest update I’m faced with a blank screen when the app starts. This started with a slow start-up but is now a permanent feature.

The problem has now been fixed and SU contacted me to confirm they had addressed the issue, thank you!

Suggestion: I am sometimes in places with no internet coverage so can’t use the app. In this situation it would be good to be able to download a pdf or similar of a few day’s notes beforehand.

**Developer response:** We’re very sorry for the issues you’ve experienced. The blank screen issue has been fixed in the latest update. Please update the app, and it should start normally. If you still experience problems, contact us via in-app support so we can help promptly.

### 2/5 — Serious Crash

*2025-08-25*

Working well until today, 25th August. Now, app crashes on opening. Delete and reinstall hasn't fixed problem.

**Developer response:** Sorry for the inconvenience Ian! We’ve fixed the issue causing crashes. Please update to the latest version of the app, and it should open correctly. If you still experience problems, contact us via in-app support so we can assist promptly.

### 2/5 — Disappointed with Upgrade

*2025-03-06*

Oh dear. The content of this is great - I’ve been using for 30 years, on the app for the last ten.
The new app is rubbish. Not intuitive at all. Doesn’t navigate between days by swiping. Too much extraneous info on each page. Don’t need the intro every day, don’t need full Bible text. Do need offline access. Insistent that I register my details. I’m very likely to go back to paper if that’s still possible.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your honest feedback. We’re glad you’ve valued the content for so long and are sorry the new app hasn’t met your expectations. We appreciate your suggestions about navigation, content, and offline access – they’re very helpful as we continue to improve. We hope you’ll stay with us and keep enjoying God’s Word.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2025-02-28*

Having used Encounter with God for many years, I am disappointed with this new app. Yes, the appearance is much improved. But I can’t read it in landscape mode on my iPad. I can’t easily swipe backward and forwards between dates. I can only use it with a current wifi signal, it doesn’t download to read offline. Not nearly so user friendly.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you appreciate the updated design but understand your concerns about landscape mode, navigation, and offline access. Your input is very helpful as we work on improvements to make the app more user-friendly for long-time readers like you.

### 4/5 — New app, works but needs refinement

*2025-02-25*

The app has been completely rebuilt, and I must say I’m grateful. There were so many bugs with the old one, it’d been unusable for a while now. Congratulations and thank you.

It’s not perfect, but I’m trusting it will be refined based on feedback. So here’s mine! Good points: it works, hallelujah!; the search feature feels like it will be very helpful; favouriting readings is a great feature too.

It is however a real shame that the app now requires an internet connection to show readings, with no way to cache them for offline reading.

Some other strongly suggested improvements: (1) I don’t need the introduction taking up so much space each day, reading it once is plenty thanks! (2) The repeated use of large stock images really gets in the way of the reading/commentary that is, after all, the single reason I’m opening the app. Especially (but not only) because each reading is represented by identical images! Reducing, or perhaps — he says with desperate hopefulness — eliminating these would really help the interface get out of the way. (3) Some customisation options for things like font and colour scheme would significantly help accessibility. Oh, and (4), the return of a browser of readings by passage would complement the search nicely. (5) Allow me to pick a favoured translation - and/or just hide it by default if I wish? (I recognise copyright and royalties must play a role here however.)

Currently the paper version remains vastly more readable, but the digital one is so convenient I’m likely to use it anyway. Some customisation options for what to show would go a long way to bridging the gap, and let the digital version really shine.

As for the readings, they remain the same thought provoking, varied commentary as ever, and I’m grateful to have them in my pocket.

This rebuild is a welcome solid foundation for the future and I look forward to seeing it refined.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your detailed and constructive feedback! We’re glad the rebuild has improved usability and that features like search and favourites are helpful. We also appreciate your suggestions on offline reading, images, customisation, and translations – they’re invaluable as we continue refining the app. We’re grateful for your support and look forward to making the experience even better for all users.

### 2/5 — 5 for content, 1 for App

*2025-01-04*

The Bible content and exposition is a huge blessing, God has used it to shape and change me over the years, deepening my relationship with him. The App itself is basic and yet clumsy with frequent unintended movement between pages, regular content update bugs as others have mentioned. Unintuitive setting access and fault reporting. Despite frequent recent update to fix bugs, I’m still not able to access the introductions to separate studies, being stuck on one from months ago. The Christmas Day reading was inexplicably missing.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback and for sharing how the content has blessed you over the years. We’re very sorry for the issues with navigation, updates, and missing readings. The team is working hard to resolve these bugs, and we encourage you to update the app and contact in-app support if problems continue. Your input helps us improve.

### 1/5 — Update Issue

*2024-12-17, version 1.3.17*

Despite having renewed my subscription in November, yet again I am being told my trial subscription has expired. I am having again to delete and reinstall the app. Not good enough.

### 1/5 — App not updating properly

*2024-10-17, version 1.3.15*

I love the app but the days do not coincide with the correct readings, eg the Psalms are not on Sundays and the blue introduction box is still info about Acts. Today’s reading in the menu takes you to the correct date but the wrong reading. I have used this app for years and this has never happened before, please update properly!

### 2/5 — Not updating

*2024-10-09*

Still not updating past end of September despite best efforts . Otherwise these are fantastic Bible reading notes when you can get them

### 1/5 — I can’t update

*2024-10-08, version 1.3.14*

Hi. The app won’t load October 2024. It is still on September 2024. I have done the app update and nothing happens. I have deleted and reinstalled it and still not updating.

### 1/5 — Very old. Don’t bother. Hasn’t been updated in years

*2021-02-12*

I was happy to see this. But it hasn’t been updated in years. Best to subscribe to the daily emails from their web page.

### 2/5 — Left wing homily

*2020-10-08*

Disappointing so far. Each day begins with a left wing homily against patriarchy, class or whatever which goes far beyond simply explaining cultural context. These notes have the same negative deconstructionist tone as my university education. If you’ve heard of the long march through the institutions then you won’t want these. By the end of each day, the notes have, however, got to the point of the passage.

### 1/5 — DID NOT DOWNLOAD

*2020-09-03*

I am so disappointed because I was excited that there was an app for Encounter and it does not work at all. I gave it one star for the effort of coming up with an APP.

### 1/5 — App not working again

*2026-03-30*

The app won’t open, again! It’s important to me to be able to study my bible via this app. Not good enough.

**Developer response:** Thank you for getting in touch again and letting us know about the issue with the app — and I’m sorry for the inconvenience it has caused you.
I’m glad to say that the app is now fixed. When you’re ready, please restart the app to make sure the changes take effect.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work On IPad

*2026-03-30*

Just stuck refreshing after logging in - please fix the app

**Developer response:** Thank you for getting in touch and letting us know about the issue with the app — and I’m sorry for any inconvenience it caused.
I’m happy to say that everything is now fixed.
When you’re ready, a quick restart of the app will make sure the changes take effect.

### 1/5 — The app is disappointing

*2025-11-06*

I love encounter with God an have used it for years, but this App is frustrating beyond comprehension. White screen on startup, sign in screens every time which require password. Only access to readings when connected to internet. I’m considering going back to paper.

**Developer response:** Hello. We are really sorry for the trouble you have had, and we appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention. Recent updates should have resolved the white screen on startup for you.
Are you still needing to sign in each time?

### 1/5 — App not working again

*2025-11-04, version 2.0.16*

When I try to look ahead to the next writer the app closes when I try to look at 6th and 7th November readings. When is the app going to consistently work properly. This is very frustrating!

### 1/5 — Good app when it works

*2025-07-26, version 2.0.14*

With the latest update I’m faced with a blank screen when the app starts. This started with a slow start-up but is now a permanent feature.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t support IPad

*2025-02-25, version 2.0.6*

I’ve been using EWG app for many years on my iPad. The new release only seems to support a vertical orientation - ie as on a phone. This is really annoying.

### 1/5 — New version

*2025-02-24*

I don’t like this new version. It’s not on the right date for Australia & it’s very busy. I’m going to stop getting it when my subscription runs out. I’m very sad that you’ve changed it.

**Developer response:** We’re sorry to hear the new version hasn’t met your needs. We appreciate your feedback about the date display and layout, and it will help us as we continue improving the app. We’re grateful for your long-term support and hope future updates might restore a better experience for you.

### 1/5 — iPad issues still not fixed

*2025-01-27*

I’m still experiencing all the issues mentioned by a reviewer on 31 Dec (notices saying my subscription has expired, can’t move to next page, wrong introductions). Any fix (when I can manage it after long efforts) only seems to work for a week. I really appreciate the notes and am very disappointed when I can’t access them. Please fix the app or go back to what seemed to be working fine previously!

**Developer response:** We’re very sorry for the ongoing issues and understand your frustration. The team has fixed the subscription and navigation problems in the latest update. Please update the app, and if any issues remain, contact us via in-app support so we can help promptly.

### 1/5 — Good content lousy app

*2025-01-23, version 1.3.18*

My experience is exactly the same as Jan44. Will be cancelling my subscription whilst I can an going back to paper

### 1/5 — iOS iPad and iPhone issue

*2024-12-21*

Still got problems. I understand that they are building a new improved app. Thecontent (when available!) is good but the current app is rubbish. This is what I wrote recently to the owners:-

1. Every few days, the app informs me that I need a new subscription and won’t move to the next day of readings. If I click “ renew existing subscription” the request disappears but the app still won’t move to next reading.
2. The work around or temporary solution is to delete the app and its data, accept the keep subscription option, then download the app again from the iOS library.
3. That works but entails waiting for 5 or 10 minutes for the data to download again.
4. That works for about a week before same thing again. Interestingly, although the same symptom occurs on my iPhone, it happens at a different date!
5. Separately, the button that should say “Introduction to (the current series)” now daily says “Introduction to (the specific daily reading!)” but when clicked goes always to “An introduction to Acts!”

I think I have explained the symptoms quite clearly enough now. I am certain that these symptoms must be experienced by ALL users of the app on Apple devices. Or are you really telling me that your tech support cannot see these symptoms on an Apple IOS device?

Please FIX IT!

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2025-06-19*

New app brings great improvements, can skip if you don’t want to sign in but then having access to notes feature if you sign up is a plus. The format is helpful and you can find a day if you missed out on any to catch up. Thought provoking content.

### 5/5 — Great app to use

*2019-06-16*

Each time when I use it for spiritual reading, I always pray for listening from the Lord. The message can help me go deeper and think further. Especially since I read the testimony from writers, the God’s calling to write down this book, the Holy Spirit touched me. I do believe that I can read and use this book and think scriptures is one of God’s will on me. Pray for the writers and the book.

### 5/5 — A wonderful resource

*2019-02-13*

This app really helps me to understand scripture.

### 5/5 — Very Good 👏🏼

*2016-01-06*

Bit more 'meat on the bones' in these Daily Bible Notes and all by some very knowledgable and diverse writers, from across the whole Christian spectrum. Helps give a bigger picture and a clearer understanding of God's Word. As opposed to some of the other popular Daily Reading Apps which can be a little lame in content or even juvenile, I find Encounter With God inspiring, informative and enjoyable reading. Well done and thank you!

### 5/5 — Must have.

*2014-11-05*

Fab content fab support from app makers. All bugs squashed quickly. A real blessing :)
