Unfortunately, this latest update has been disappointing. Yes, it fixed a playback bug, but I would gladly trade that fix to have the old app—or at least the features that made it so special—back. The automatic message that generated when I shared the app (with the option to donate) is gone, and more importantly the Bible readings have disappeared, which is the biggest loss of all. There also seem to be fewer meditations now, and some are read by what sounds like an AI-generated voice. I do appreciate the addition of a built-in Bible, but there are already plenty of Bible apps. Encounter’s unique Scripture readings and thoughtful meditations were what set it apart. Thank you for all the work you do; this app has blessed me for years. I truly pray you’ll hear long-time users’ concerns and consider restoring the features that made Encounter so meaningful. **Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to review. Allow me to address these. (1) As a non-profit that relies solely on donations, managing costs is always a factor. By moving to this new developer, we reduced our app costs by 85% allowing us to continue offering 1,400 hours of content for free. (2) Another factor was security. We moved to a more secure server, but that unfortunately required everyone to start over on journaling. (3) None of it is AI. It's me. But I may have had a cold. (3) The same number of meditations is there, + the addition of 200+ YouTube Videos and 170+ YouVersion Bible Plans. I realize it may be new, but we are seeing a 10x increase in downloads, launches, and impressions with the new developer. Please be patient as I continue to tweak the user interface. Glory to God. -Drew ### 3/5 — Appreciate, but please fix *2025-07-21, version 6.15.0* I too love this app but it broke a while ago and I’ve been hoping for a fix rather than complain. ### 3/5 — Very confused now *2025-07-10* I agree 100% with “What Happened”. Things changed and I don’t care for it either as I also counted on it every night. I finally got signed in to “sub splash” but I don’t see that it’s any different and there definitely aren’t 500 meditations. I’m still hearing the message at the beginning saying if I want more to download the app. I even went to the App Store to see if there was a different one that I needed to download. Please explain the change and how can I get to my favorites? And why isn’t there a new one each day instead of me having to search for one that I haven’t listened to in the last few days. But it ran in the background all day running down the battery. Background app refresh is turned off, so I don’t know how to stop it so deleted the app. ### 4/5 — Great Offering *2024-11-12, version 1.5.0* Great offering to do this. Very good messages and topics. The music is meditative but the style of speaking isn’t and is more like an audiobook than a meditation (slow, soft) style of speaking. I have enjoyed listening to Encounter for a long time but a few months ago it stopped working. I can no longer get audio. I wonder if it has something to do with the latest version? However it frequently freezes up and I have to remove app, download and sign in repeatedly. It also only shows Some of my favorites and won’t let me access the complete list. Best app for when i cant sleep or when i need some encouragement or even to just stop and spend a few minutes with the Lord. ### 5/5 — Best nighttime sleep aid out there! *2023-06-07* Through this app you can access all of the meditations and mark your favorites to come back too. I’ve loved “Morning Has Broken” as I sip hot tea in the early morning and watch out my window. And as I’m having difficult challenges lately, I have found great comfort in “Sleep: Great promises of God.” It is simply Bible verses of God promises read with soothing music. It is an hour long and I’ve yet to make it to the end before I fall into a deep restful sleep. (And it’s also good to have it playing during the day!) ### 5/5 — Use it daily! *2023-05-26* I’ll be honest. The first time I listened to a meditation I stopped it about a minute into it. I wasn’t a fan of the style and I’m pretty picky about voices. However, one very stressful day I decided to give it a shot again. I made myself finish the meditation and by the end of it I was used to the style and the voice. Now I use it daily and wouldn’t change a thing about it! My job is extremely stressful. I find that if I don’t stay focused and in the Word everyday I tend to spiral into an anxious mess. Adding this practice to my time with God has been such a blessing. Thank you for this app. Please continue to make new meditations. It’s such a blessing that it’s free! If you have trouble slowing down your mind this is a great way through some of that. I also love the sleep ones! It is truly a remarkable app that helps with spiritual growth and peace. However, I’ve noticed a considerable drain on my battery. I use this app before bed while the phone is charging. It relentlessly uses an incredible amount of processing in the background draining my battery throughout the day if the app isn’t exited. I have background app refresh turned off globally...I have not deleted in hopes of improvements but will go back to using either the email or podcasts **Developer response:** Hey ErnieLevelOne, we are so sorry to hear about the background refresh draining your battery. We are working on a solution for this, but for the time being if you exit out of the meditation after you are done listening to it, or shut down the app it will stop the refresh. Where did this go wrong? ### 2/5 — What happened? *2025-07-01* I’ve used this app for over a year and with no warning it’s looks completely different now. The meditations are stuck on June 4th. It signed me out and doesn’t recognize my email. I created a new account with new email and the meditations are still stuck on June 4th. You can get updated meditations on the podcast. Yet the podcast tells you to download the app to access the 500 meditations which “are free, as they should be” according to Drew (?). The app also has a new icon. I originally found an Encounter sleep mediation on YouTube and realized they also have an app, so I immediately downloaded it. Each meditation and Bible reading within the app is free (which is outstanding), and Encounter is the first organization I’ve found with a solid mission statement that has biblically sound doctrine with meditations based in the Word of God. It’s wonderful to have a go-to option for winding down and relaxing at night that’s biblically based and trustworthy so I know I can trust it and it doesn’t lead to feeling uncomfortable from any new-age content. It helps me start my day feeling centered and encouraged. I sometimes listen at the end of the day and I fall asleep before I finish which provides a very restful sleep.
