The pdf viewer is decent, but the missing hierarchy in the group system makes it really hard to organize. It’s also missing the read/unread button from the desktop version. Once these would be implemented, I would gladly recommend this app ### 3/5 — Needs to have tag support *2025-05-21, version 3.6.1* Honestly I don’t think the developers had the user in mind when creating this app. It feels like a copy of the desktop database when in reality, people want this app to read and annotate. For instance, I tag papers that I want to read first, but this app doesn’t even support searching by tags. ### 4/5 — Feature parity needed *2025-04-19, version 3.6.1* As a long-time Endnote user, I very much appreciate having Endnote on my iPad as an extension of the desktop app and my reference database. However, the experience is diminished by features that are missing on the iPad version. Specifically, smart groups and tags, which are very useful organizational tools in the desktop version, are not available in the iPad app. As a result, I lose important elements of my reference organization on my iPad. However, I am an Endnote user for more than 20 years. Thus, regular users deserve a better app for iOS, as this is the most effective way to read and annotate research articles. ### 2/5 — Even basic functionality is missing *2024-04-29, version 3.4* I was hesitant on the iOS app based on reviews and the last update being over 9 months ago, but I only need basic functionality which is sadly missing. Simple things like CMD+D to remove reference does not work; You can’t drag and drop items into groups, as your groups are not listed on the left hand side - why does a simple command now require 6 taps to complete? Even bulk editing references - why can’t I multi-select references and delete them? F- Extreme failure. *2024-08-28, version 3.5* Scam danger. Many glitches, crashes and bugs. Worked great in 1990’s but EndNote is now an attempt to grab a pool of money from academia ivory towers. Zero attempt at anything other than collecting money. It will never work - hours on hold with libraries and tech support. EndNote is a scam - they steal credit card for a service that will not work. Avoid at all costs! Does not work as advertised! I would like to see the ability to automatically have highlights and notes from the PDF show up in the dedicated notes field after reading the paper. Finally, I can read and annotate my references in my iPad in a native application. I used to use Mendeley, but since they removed their client from the App Store, using their web interface was rather a nightmare. EndNote provides me exactly with what I need. Plus support for Apple Pencil is a nice benefit. ### 5/5 — much improved *2022-05-27, version 3.2* I found the current version (3.2) to be very much improved. Syncs well with my Mac OS version. Search functions improved and the advanced search is recommended. The web browser that is provided is useful and additional web sites can be added. It does take a little time and effort to learn what the app can do but I think it is worthwhile to explore it thoroughly. Perhaps a video tutorial would be nice for new users. ### 5/5 — Endnote App works now!!! *2022-05-19, version 3.2* I used this app about a year ago and it was not what it should’ve been, but now my primary library was able to actually be imported!!! I haven’t really tried much else but that was impossible when I first downloaded the app so I’m happy to give this review to help support the app makers. I hope every one has a good experience. Im a grad student who bought the desktop version almost 3 years ago and it’s so much better than zotero or mendley because of the plugins and now hopefully this app adds to that even more. I recommend buying the desktop version m. ### 5/5 — Great app for iPad *2022-05-04, version 3.2* Some of the bad reviews that I see are quite old. I think the app is great if you use endnote to manage references and store papers. The annotation function seems to work great with Apple Pencil. Citation feature Your competitor, the red one, has added citation feature using the add-in on MS Word. I hope EndNote will add citation feature soon. Many have switched to iPad given the iPad OS development these couple of years, which now enable multi tasking. I don’t see any reason why EndNotes hasn’t prioritized this. 2. Groups navigation My workflow on desktop is usually create a group set for a paper/title I’m working on, then create a group under that group set for different categories. I couldn’t navigate easily on iPad app. I can only see the groups without group sets at the moment.
