I can no longer log into the system with the app. Logging in via the website is fine, so there is something wrong with the app integration. Using a Rainforest EAGLE-100. ### 2/5 — Eagle Gateway Good. App Questionable. *2018-07-08, version 3.0.6* I'm enjoying regular power reports that Bidgely provides from data my Eagle Gateway forwards to them, but this Energy Vue app that Rainforest Automation provides for local access doesn't currently work all that well. The app intermittently complains that it can't connect to the device, and its history graphs show me nothing. 4 years since I wrote my initial review and the app cannot login to the gateway’s local address. Attempts to login to via the cloud report that “rainforest.com” is unreachable, whereas I can reach it just fine from my safari browser on the very same device that is running the EnergyVue app. I can access the Eagle Gateway's local web interface from the very iPad from which I'm trying to use Energy Vue, and the web interface shows the data that the Energy Vue app can't. The Rainforest Eagle Gateway device was initially very cool when used with the Bidgely energy analysis service, but Bidgely no longer offers service to individuals. This relegates the Eagle “Legacy” Gateway to the role of reporting current and historical energy usage with very limited options. I wouldn’t bother spending the time and money that Rainforest devices require without benefit of a 3rd party energy analysis service. ### 3/5 — App’s utility bill per hour cost is incorrect *2018-01-04* It’s off by a factor of 10x (too high) The $ per hour electricity usage calculation is correct on their web portal however. Surprised this iOS app bug has lasted so long (have had & used the app for over a year) ### 2/5 — So many login problems *2017-07-10, version 3.0.4* This app is great when it works but logging in is so flakey and has been for so many versions of this app. Very frustrating. I miss Bidgely:( ### 1/5 — Bad App *2017-06-29, version 3.0.3* The App used to allow the user to log into Rain Forest so that you could read you electric meter and all the same detail as your login for Rainforest. Now all I can see is my power usage. This app is now useless. The designers should have left well enough alone. ### 2/5 — App is not working after upgrade *2017-06-29* Version 3.0.3 is no good. It was OK before and now I cannot login to the app! Please look into this and fix it. Areas to improve - consumption warning if exceed set level; usage analysis against time interval and outside temperature; price per KWh should have different rate at different breaks to enter to match PG&E actual pricing matrix. ### 1/5 — Still broken *2017-06-29, version 3.0.3* I just tried to login after the update and it is still not working properly. After having some initial success once logging into the Eagle gateway from the app, the app will not connect again. Additionally, there are no settings to input the ddns address to remotely access the gateway from the WAN instead of the LAN. Please offer a revision for this app because it really cheapens the brand for rainforest as the Eagle gateway is great othewise. ### 1/5 — Update does not work *2017-06-28, version 3.0.3* Update did not fix the issues. No able to log in. Sorry. ### 1/5 — Latest version not working! *2017-06-27, version 3.0.2* 6/27/2017 New version of app does't work on my iPhone. Have to use the webpage version. Each new version has some little improvement. The first version: hard to login and allowed me to see only the gauge. Next version allowed me easier login and shows the cost/kw and cost/hr. But latest version still won't show any historical info. I have to use web version to monitor historical graphs. Using iPhone 6. 12/01/2015: Updated to the latest version and the history screen went BLANK AGAIN!!! 12/16/2015: Cannot log in from the app. Had to use the browser interface. 06/15/2017: New version shows consumption graph always at 3/4 circle no matter what the actual consumtion value is. Is this a glitch? ### 1/5 — Terrible *2017-06-27, version 3.0.2* I've had nothing but issues with Rainforest's apps. It continually says I need to check my credentials and when I re-log in, the data doesn't show up. Would be a solid 4 now that rates are supposed to be there. Can't login anymore.... bummer! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work with Older RFA-Z109 Eagle Gateways *2022-04-21* I’ve had the Eagle RFA-Z109 (legacy Eagle gateway I believe they renamed as the EAGLE 100) since Rainforest Automation started making them around 2012. It still works fine with my PG&E (California) SmartMeter, but this app doesn’t. Won’t even connect. Maybe it was never intended to, but if so that should be disclosed on the description. And I shouldn’t have to create a Rainforest Automation account just to view my own meter readings from the locally connected Eagle. ### 1/5 — Crashes *2020-01-26* Crashes every time I open it. Why you sell the 200 then? ### 1/5 — Does not work with Eagle 200 *2017-11-06, version 3.0.5* As title states.... ### 1/5 — Broken: Non-Standard Network Port *2017-08-02, version 3.0.4* My device is running the latest firmware and I'm able to log into the Rainforest web portal but not this app. Turns out the reason is that it is attempting to connect to Rainforest server on port 9445. Standard and best practice dictates that they should be using port 443. ### 1/5 — Used to be great *2017-07-23* This used to be a fantastic app, one of my favorites and most used. and then we had to change the UI, reports etc. now it only connects intermittently, won't load, arbitrarily signs you out. And login requires several, complex pieces of data. And it doesn't work at all remotely. You have to be on the same wifi net as the device. Used to have cloud login. ### 1/5 — Going downhill fast *2017-07-04, version 3.0.4* After the facelift removed the widget (which was on of the best features of the app to quickly check energy) the app now no longer lets me log in at all (even after the last two updates that supposedly fixed this). 😐 ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Problem with V3.0.5 *2017-08-20* I really like the new UI for the app. It's more intuitive to navigate and provides great charts. Thank you for V3.0.4! It resolved my login issues. With V3.0.5 the history charts have dropped the current day. Was this an error or intentional. I really like seeing the real-time data for the current day. Hope to see an update to resolve this soon. ### 5/5 — App does the trick *2017-06-12, version 3.0.0* App works as intended, makes it easy to check power consumption when away from home and hunt down the expensive appliances. ### 5/5 — Great little app! *2016-03-14* App is simple and contains enough info for a quick assessment of my total net metering performance since I have multiple solar panels installed some micro inverter and others with a single inverter. ### 5/5 — Simple, clean and to the point... *2015-05-13* The gateway was easy to register and setup. Took about 15 minutes to configure the AirportExtreme for port forwarding. I can now use this app to view my power consumption at or away from home. It may not have some of the bells and whistles but is working well for me. Only request would be to show 3 decimal places instead of 2 for the kWh. Would be nice to see .007 and know I'm using 7 watts instead of seeing .01 which could be anything between 5 and 10 watts. ### 4/5 — Good basic home residential energy monitor *2017-11-20* This allow you to look at your electric meter. And trace your household power consumption for the past day, week, month, or year. It does work as advertised, and it’s free. Requires a $99 Zigbee-to-WiFi adapter. This is worth the price in my opinion. It allows you to see where the money is flowing. Whether you are home or away. Worth the price. ### 4/5 — Need to beta test first 😁 *2017-07-04* App looks ok, if not a bit pretentious in black and blue. 3.0.4 fixed login issue with App! Overall, it's a utility monitor that works accurately and has never gone offline in my 2+ years of usage. It's fun to monitor how much energy your family is using, optimize energy usage and use as a tool to estimate monthly energy bill. I do prefer the previous interface, but everything evolves. Suggestion for future (Other than fix app login) 1. Our gas meters are wifi also, integrate their data. Dual meters for total bill 2. Give interface options to change color of display 3. Allow user to set usage display guard rails for energy. Example: usage display green for xkw to xxkw, yellow xxkw to xxxkw, red xxxkw to xxxxkw. 4. Allow text or email alerts to be sent for energy usage and outage. ### 4/5 — Great overall *2017-06-12* The redesign seems to have introduced a problem where there is a 0 sample added at the end of demand graphs, so the demand always jumps either up or down to 0 at the end of the graph. Looks very strange, especially when there is a large load or generation to see it jump from e.g. 8kW to 0. Would also be nice to have the capability to start fast poll mode from the app. ### 4/5 — Good start but.. *2017-06-09, version 3.0.0* 1. Make it remember log in credentials for more than one unit (some homes have second meter for basement suite) to make it easier to switch between them 2. Apple Watch support (see graphs, etc) 3. Analytics could use more work. Any way to allow us to try to break it down by appliance (app figure out the appliance by energy usage signature)? Or all us to do that by telling app what just turned on at moment of energy usage spike? Thanks! ### 4/5 — Works great! *2017-01-21* Pretty good activation process with PG&E, works well. Only thing missing is the "Fast Poll" feature that is there in the web browser, not sure why they wouldn't have included it on the mobile app. So 4 stars instead of 5 until they add that feature. Also would be nice if the app would stay logged in, rather than having to tap on login every time it's launched. ### 4/5 — Updating firmware allowed login *2016-02-23* I had same errors - "request timed out", "error parsing data" as other people. I wrote to rainforest support and received a very prompt reply. The reason was - "lack of latest firmware". Rainforest updated my device's firmware and now things work.
