I do think the app should have the cycle/number of cylinders option right on the Home Screen, I think that would help out. Also, would be nice if it had good enough response times to react to transient surges, really it’s only useful for steady RPM values. But overall, did what I needed for much cheaper than a small engine tach. ### 4/5 — Expensive and complicated but it works.... *2018-08-19* 1- Read all the help pages beforehand; it’ll take you about 5-10 minutes but well worth it. 2- I used to set idle on a 2 stroke fuel injected motorcycle where the idle is critical: too high and the bike runs too lean, too low and it bogs down in low RPM starts. 3- At first I had it set up to sample every 3 seconds. That was too long. So I cut to 3/4 of a second and it was less of a hassle. I was able to guesstimate the current RPM’s at 1500, (actual was closer to 1700), so I set up the software that way, kept making small adjustments on idle screw until I got it just right. 4- Logging the RPMs and times was a nice feature. 5- to get a 5 star price needs to come down materially or ease of use must improve significantly. Overall I’m happy with this given the alternatives. ### 5/5 — impressive *2018-07-28* Allowed me to set my chainsaw high speed mixture. I was running 2k rpm rich, didn’t know how much power I was missing. Struggled a bit with idle reading, but that’s understandable because a 1-cylinder 2-cycle engine is lumpy at low speed. Increasing sample length did the trick. Much better than spending $100+ for the Stihl tachometer. Impressive piece of software. ### 5/5 — Swan *2017-05-12* Worked perfectly. I used this app to check and reset the operating speed of a lawnmower. I found the mower was over 300rpm down on the specified engine speed, which equated to 0.5hp lost. Adjusted running speed to specified value and now it mows like a boss! Cheaper, quicker and easier than buying a tachometer. Don't be put off by the +/-10% shown on the sample page; it relates to an operating mode where the app scans around an expected rpm within a given tolerance range to avoid possible errors due to secondary harmonics, thus providing the most accurate measurement. It is not an error band on the measured rpm. The app can be run in an 'auto' mode if the expected rpm is not known. I recommend this app if you need to measure an engine's speed under steady conditions. ### 5/5 — Works Great! *2016-06-02* I used this to check the RPM on a couple of lawnmowers I have. I set the engine type, set the hint, and it found the correct rpm reading very quickly. I don't think I could go out and buy a tach for ten bucks or get it hooked up and working this easily. ### 4/5 — Works on small engines *2015-01-14* I was happy to see that it did work while setting the RPM on my snowblower (4 cycle). I didn't have the time or the desire to understand the app, so I just put it on Auto, and it did a better job on the output. I was not able to compare its output with an electrical input meter, but the engine did sound about right. It will suffice for now under my deciphering. Nice job! ### 4/5 — Read manual...and it works *2014-11-12* This app is awesome. However a trained monkey could not use it, you MUST read the directions, however, if you set the parameters, watch the graph at the bottom and read the directions, you will always have a RPM meter around for all engines that Emmit sound. Honestly I use this for all my snowblowers, lawn mowers and chainsaws. Works great, but you do need to watch the graph read the directions and it helps to know what RPM's it 'should' be running at. Mowers and blowers are all 3600 RPM, saws are 13,600 rpm wide open. Again trained monkey can not use this, you need a brain and it will confuse you for an hour until you read the directions, then it works nicely. And for 9$, saves me lots of money on all the machines I want an RPM meter for to make carb adjustments. ### 5/5 — Works real good! *2014-10-17* Definitely worth the cost. I used it to calibrate my analog diesel tachometer and it is way cheaper than buying a dedicated revmeter to do one job. Worked for me while sitting at the instrument cluster with a screwdriver so it offers a big advantage over pulley-based measurements that make you run back and forth while RPM may change. Two important points! 1) It cannot measure RPMs of electric motors unless for some reason they emit audio. 2) You have to give the app some idea of a range to work in. I used known transmission gearing to get close, and the app zeroed it in for me. It's not perfect tends to bounce around could use an output filter. You have to play around with this app to get it working right. It's not perfect but I was able adjust my carb to 3600 rpm ie snow blower. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Did not work *2025-08-10* Needed to monitor and adjust the idle on my motorcycle. Did not once register a live rpm reading. No matter what settings I adjust it still held the same 4 digit reading in red. I placed my phone even directly behind the exhaust and the number read the same even tho I raised and lowered the actual rpm. I've tried it several times and get the same results. The display only shows blanks and intermittently flashes incorrect data. I'm trying to find a way to get my money refunded but no luck so far. I read the manual and have adjusted all the settings. It seems to work only when you tell it what you think the RPMs should be. It agrees for a moment then jumps around as much as 2,000 RPMs between refresh. I was hoping to tune my yard machines but it looks like I need to spend the hundred bucks. Do not buy. *2013-12-23, version 2.1* I tested this app on several electric motors ranging from 7,000 to 30,000 rpm and it gave me completely inaccurate readouts every time. Not only that, but it randomly skips between too significantly different numbers, such as 3,000 and 7,000 or between 10,000 and 20,000. Even in a sound proof room it gives random readouts when no sound is heard. How can the app creator justify charging so much for an obviously bugged app? Following the instructions on the tach and the RPM app it all danced perfectly and accurately! Simple accurate! ### 5/5 — Works Well - Works as Described *2024-06-10* Was a little concerned when noticing most reviews are very old. Pleased to report it worked very well when setting the speed of my old two stroke Lawn Boy mower. As the author and other purchasers have noted, works best with a constant engine speed and no background noise. Also verified my Ranger’s idle speed with it’s tachometer, spot on. ### 5/5 — Great concept. Great execution. Great price! *2023-03-27* The Tiny Tach tachometer I’ve been using in my small engine work wasn’t extremely expensive, but it’s finicky and difficult to use when I’m tuning something like a chainsaw. This app, after a couple minutes glossing over the instructions, was almost intuitive to get to function. It will be really nice to be able to set this down and have both hands free to operate the throttle and adjust carburetor settings on equipment now. Large, easy to see display and controls plus other features I haven’t even gotten to will make my work SO much easier! Thanks guys, for all your hard work. There are some big advantages too: low cost and no need to touch the engine. I used this to tune my old rototiller engine. It took some experimentation on where to position my phone near the engine, but I was able to get a strong signal and confirm max RPM and idle RPM. ### 5/5 — Pricey but works good. *2019-11-03* This was a little more expensive that I would have liked but once I used it I would say it’s defiantly useful. Used it to check low and high speed of my lawnmowers and it’s right on. Just slide around the hint rpm as it’s running and it finds the speed right away. It’s also cool that you can also see the audio waveform. The app doesn’t look to fancy but as long as it keeps working with future iOS updates I’ll be happy. ### 5/5 — Excellent Tool *2018-10-24* This app worked very well to help me set the idle on my Royal Enfield 500cc single cylinder motorcycle.
