No matter what I do the audio files never work which frankly is the whole purpose if the App as most people do not understand the phonetic alphabet. I downloaded it but there is no way to hear what the phonetic symbols should sound like which is a bit frustrating. It consistently gets my accent wildly incorrect and the app refuses to let me select my home area location. I come from Tunbridge Wells and my accent is from there, but the app won’t accept this as a valid location. I’m afraid that renders it useless. I did the quiz on the basis to see what accent I have adapted most from the people around me. To provide input I wanted to fill in your quiz, but I did not enable my location, thus trying to pinpoint the city I live in rather than the exact address, but I was not able to do that. While the map allowed to chose a place it would not allow me to click next... kind of disappointing that I couldn’t help with the data, due to...? Not wanting to provide personal information? Maybe an area where improvement should be considered. ### 3/5 — Great but... *2020-10-30, version 1.3* Great app, very interesting. My only qualm is that when I try to select location for “my accent”, it just won’t recognise the location or allow me to click “next”. It just stays grayed out. The locations given aren’t that far from where I actually am, but obviously it would be good to give a specific location. I note quite a few people have encountered this exact issue. Needs fixing before I can give it a five star rating I’m afraid. ### 3/5 — Good idea but app needs some work *2020-06-26, version 1.3* It didn’t guess my accent but it was close. I opted to provide details for research and selected where I was from ‘Wrexham’ but it said location unknown and wouldn’t let me press next so I was unable to provide feedback. ### 3/5 — Could not correct location *2020-05-31, version 1.3* Loved this. It guessed well but about 50 miles out. I could not submit a corrected location as the selection on the map does not work. It does not recognise my internet connection (which I established when trying to record my own voice in the app...it showed an error message telling me I had no internet connection. Which I do, otherwise how did I download the app or submit this review?) ### 3/5 — Not all London natives speak like characters from Eastenders *2020-05-04, version 1.3* The app clearly does not work for some people who were educated in the public school system, or those who make an effort to speak a ‘standard’ form of English. It misidentified my location/accent by a minimum of 56 miles, despite me being a white Englishman born in north London and having lived here my entire life. I am unable to submit feedback in the app because it says “Your location: Unknown” despite me being in London. ### 2/5 — Confusing *2020-02-18, version 1.3* No difference between some prononciations also sometimes I say things in two different ways. Wouldn’t let me select a location for my accent. After quiz said I was from Lyme Regis! I live nowhere near Lyme Regis and have heard that accent and it’s not mine! Despite the fact I never really completely escaped from RP when I was growing up in England it still is pretty accurate in terms of locating where I grew up -- if I enter choices for how I talked when I was 18. After many years in the US, it now plants it bang in the middle of the Republic of Ireland, which helps explain why one of my best friend's kids when answering the phone the last time I called said "Dad, there's this Irish guy on the phone!" ### 5/5 — Awesome! *2018-07-02* While not from the UK/Ireland, I downloaded this app to check out where I’d fit in with my Mid Atlantic accent! Turns out I’d fit in somewhere in Northern Ireland! Pretty cool! It would be awesome to see an American/Canadian version of this! But we don’t have nearly the amount of variety that you guys across the pond do! Since then, I've lived all over the world, married a posh girl, never lived up north since and gone pretty much BBC neutral - or so I thought. Just used this app and it placed me less than 2 miles from where I grew up. It picked my Australian accent as being from the south of England (no surprise given the characteristics Aussie pronunciation) and allowed me to provide details when I rejected its guess. I'd love to see world English accents included in the future. ### 5/5 — Fascinating and accurate *2016-05-31, version 1.3* It guessed my origins to within 10 miles. I liked listening to the minute differences between how words were being pronounced in the quiz. It was helpful to be able to hear the various ways that the same word can be pronounced. It was not accurate in guessing where I am from but it wasn't too far out with the suggestions it gave.
