### 2/5 — Not ready

*2026-08-04*

It’s a promising start but this app/service is still light years from being ready for large libraries imported eg from Google Photos or Apple Photos. Eg after selecting some 200 pictures to add to a shared album the recently created album doesn’t show up in the destination list or the addition fails repeatedly with “something went wrong”.

Onboarding for a family member also suffered from sync issues — after sharing an album and seeing pictures it still took minutes before anything showed up in the “feed”.

And for people coming from Google the date handling of pictures where the importer can’t match the json sidecar is really unfortunate; expect about 1% of your pictures to end up with a wrong date (the date of the takeout request) and no other metadata.

### 2/5 — Wäre eine gute Alternative

*2026-07-19*

Schade..

### 2/5 — Viele Fehler wenig Funktionen

*2026-07-16*

### 3/5 — Could be better

*2026-07-04, version v1.3.57*

Streaming video caped at 720p. Or you have to download the file every time to view. And only do 60 second videos and only the last 60 day videos are available to stream. So you’re not an alternative?? Lol you’re an almost alternative to Google Photos, Apple photos, and Amazon photos. Others stream video no problem or limit. Hopefully that will change cause the interface is nice though.

### 4/5 — Great app, missing face tags

*2026-07-02, version v1.3.57*

I love this app, but so wish that it had better facial recognition features. At minimum, I would love a way to manually be able to tag my dog in a picture. The only word around is moving pictures to an album.

### 4/5 — Great!!! But not privacy focussed…

*2026-06-13, version v1.3.56*

Great app and they’ve nearly thought of everything! Some of the features are hidden by click-click-click into different areas of the app, but on the whole really good and privacy focussed which is a bonus.

There needs to be some further development, such as changing the location of the photographs or EXIF data. If I wanted to erase this completely it should be an option. There are some photos I’d like to remove this from to avoid sharing too much and doxxing but it seems you can’t. For family stuff and albums I don’t mind but for a privacy focussed app there should be a ‘Zap metadata’ option for certain photos or albums as a whole.

Great start and now a subscriber (and recommended some people so I get extra storage!) but I’d like to see more privacy focussed features. I’m also a little dubious after clearing the cache and going into airplane mode that I’m able to see images…. How is this so…. I’m not sure Ente has completely ‘Entayed’ the privacy market whilst lacking these features and, apparently, storing images locally that cannot be cleared by the cache…

Photo editing isn’t great, either. I know there are other apps for this but this is literally a photo app. When editing there’s no quick way of seeing the before and after (or before and current edit) that most editing apps have. Also, really annoying, when you do make edits, it vibrates - and NOT haptic feedback as you’d expect! When I was editing, it thought the White House was trying to get through! It buzzed so much I thought there was a national emergency - to the point I checked all my messaging apps and the phone app to see if I had missed something urgent! Not great.

Ente need to address some of the above and I’d like to see an option to disabling caching of images! I think there might be a workaround by adding to a Hidden folder and then deleting the cache after, but I cannot be certain.

### 2/5 — Annoyed within minutes

*2026-05-16, version 1.3.40*

This app craves everything you have and annoys you into submitting to full photo access and machine learning. Let me pick what I want to share, when I want, and stop forcing users to grant permissions through progressive screens you can’t get past without submitting.

### 4/5 — Would love some tutorials

*2026-05-14, version 1.3.40*

Just switched over from Amazon Photos this week, paid up for a year. The subreddit is helpful for figuring out more of how it works.

### 5/5 — The best cloud photo storage

*2026-05-13*

I've been using this app for years on my phone and PC to back up my photos. It's reliable, fast, and easy to use. It's the quickest way I've found to transfer photos between my devices. Couldn't recommend enough!

### 3/5 — Trustworthy app, but HEATS UP A LOT!!!!!

*2026-05-11*

Been using this app for over a year now with my partner and it’s the only one we trust with our photos. Works great on his Android, but it gets really hot on my iPhone 17 idk why

### 5/5 — Gute Photo Cloud

*2026-05-06*

### 4/5 — Great private photo backup, almost perfect

*2026-05-05*

one of the best photo backup apps if you care about privacy. I like that photos are end-to-end encrypted, the app works across devices, and it feels much more trustworthy than ad-based cloud services. The design is clean, backup works well, and sharing albums is useful. It may not feel as deeply integrated into iOS as iCloud Photos, but for private photo storage, it is a very strong option. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a serious alternative to Google Photos or iCloud

### 3/5 — Needs some improvements

*2026-05-01, version 1.3.35*

The app isn’t very intuitive to use. I wish there was parity on all features between web and mobile. I don’t find it easy to navigate my albums on mobile at all.

### 5/5 — Best app to secure your photos!

*2026-04-20*

Love everything about Ente! Go for it with your eyes closed!

### 5/5 — Best for free e2ee

*2026-04-19, version v.1.3.32*

Definitely worth the download because no other app gives a free 10 gb of e2ee storage. However, on my arm pc I def need a way to download the app, I remember seeing one on GitHub but I’m not fully sure.

### 5/5 — One of the best apps

*2026-04-18, version v.1.3.32*

I don’t have the words for how amazing this app is. Thank you guys. I wish everyone does what you guys did here

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Locked in to a subscription.

*2026-07-08, version v1.3.57*

No option to revert to the free 10gb once subscription has expired.

### 1/5 — Blatant UI regression

*2026-06-03, version v1.3.54*

I don’t think I have ever seen an app get so blatantly worse in one version. Did some publish a previous version of the app? Is this a joke? Literally every object and icon has taken a full explicit step backwards in clarity and usability.

### 1/5 — Photos gone

*2026-05-27, version v1.3.44*

I added photos and videos on this app yesterday. I checked to make sure they were there and they were in the uncategorized folder. I then deleted them from my phone. I go back on today and they’re all gone, it says I haven’t used any storage so now my photos and videos are gone forever. I’m really upset about this, be careful.

### 1/5 — Aktuell nicht brauchbar

*2026-05-05*

Immer! Und das nervt ohne Ende. Was soll das?
iOS 26... Liquid Glass...

### 1/5 — Very bad app

*2026-02-10*

The UI is poor, and the experience is terrible in terms of intuitiveness. The file management is bad, and there are no proper tutorials for uploading or using other features. My biggest issue is deleting albums. When I try to delete an album, I don’t get the option to remove it only from the cloud; it forces me to delete it from my device as well. Furthermore, it says it will delete those photos and videos from all other folders they are uploaded to. I just want to delete that one specific folder. It should be simple, but it isn’t. I am forced to delete files from locations I don’t want to touch, including my local device storage. The UI is not helpful at all in distinguishing these actions. If something is labeled “On Ente,” deleting it should remove it from the cloud, not the device. If I wanted to delete it from my device, I would choose “On Device.” I genuinely can’t delete any folders without literally losing my media just because I don’t want that particular folder anymore. What is wrong with this design? Who hurt the developer? Who came up with this? You should just follow a simple folder structure like Google Drive: if I edit a folder on the cloud, it shouldn’t affect my device.

### 1/5 — crashes constantly

*2026-02-01, version v1.3.7*

iOS app crashes when searching and selecting photos on both my and my partner's iPhone.

### 1/5 — Struggles to Backup

*2026-01-18, version v1.3.0*

It really struggles to do a simple backup of a few sub 1 minute videos. The UI is lovely but I don’t think I can rely on it because of its poor performance

### 1/5 — Unreliable and corrupt

*2025-11-12, version v1.2.18*

The last update DELETED EVERYTHING from my Ente account supposedly and is now uploading everything from my phone again!

This is ridiculous given my phone no longer has everything — I deleted all my larger videos in the confidence that they were available on Ente

Despairing doesn’t begin to describe how I’m feeling about the possibility of having lost so many memories.

Save your money, time and sanity. If you’re looking for cloud photo storage, look elsewhere

APP NEED TO HAVE ARABIC LOCALISATION

*2025-10-14, version v1.2.11*

APP NEED TO HAVE ARABIC LOCALISATION

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Großartig

*2026-08-09*

Tolles Konzept.

### 5/5 — 10/10 product with a 10/10 app!

*2026-08-08, version v1.3.59*

Y’all have built an amazing product - cleaner than Apple photos imo and I can trust my photos are safe!

### 5/5 — Excelente

*2026-07-24*

### 5/5 — Awesome self hosted

*2026-07-11*

I have self hosted the server on a little raspberry, works almost flawlessly. Kudos to the Ente team for keeping this project open source and stable.

### 5/5 — Absolut banger

*2026-07-02*

### 5/5 — Degoogle and support an Indian creation - win-win

*2026-07-01*

Moved to Ente Photos as a paying user almost two years ago from Dropbox, which itself a decision because i wanted to avoid paying for Google Photos - and we haven’t looked back.

We have a Family account that is about to fill up (~800 GB) of photos and videos, across Android and iOS devices.

The fact that the app is open source AND end-to-end encrypted was the deciding factor, and i gladly pay Ente for the service!

*2026-06-25*

### 5/5 — Optimal!

*2026-06-05*

Funktioniert tadellos.

### 5/5 — Best Encrypted Photo Backup Service

*2026-05-21*

I’ve been trying to get away from Google Photos and OneDrive and attempted Proton Drive. I found the user interface unintuitive and extremely difficult to use. Ente has the same end-to-end encryption and quality of life features like being able to just use it like a photo app. It backs up when the phone is locked and the ability to search can’t be overstated. Being able to share photos with friends and family is an amazing feature that I thought wouldn’t be possible with encryption. I will be recommending this service to anyone.
