### 4/5 — Great features. Needs better design

*2026-06-19, version 1.42.460*

This app has great features for a banking app and budgeting, it is however pretty plain looking.

### 4/5 — Great start, Looking forward to more robust functionality.

*2026-06-01*

I feel like I willed this app into existence, with how perfectly its overall brief meets my needs. Using it BASICALLY works, but I’m hoping for things like Plaid-compatible bank logins, the ability to dictate how virtual cards show up in Apple Wallet, envelope cards being able to accept reverse debits (like an instant Venmo payment, for example)

Still. Even with that, this is a tool I wished existed, and then found out it did. Keep up the good work.

### 3/5 — Signup a little iffy

*2026-03-28, version 1.40.422*

Looks interesting, but signup process is broken, and support is unhelpful, so the app isn’t accessible.. What can ya say? 🤷‍♂️
Update: I tried again a couple weeks later - this time without taking any privacy measures with email or payment, and I got in. Let the testing begin!

### 5/5 — Finally!

*2026-02-27, version 1.40.422*

Our family has been waiting for a system like this. We’ve tried so many budget apps and they just don’t work like we want them to. This actually acts like an envelope system and it brings so much peace knowing where our money is going.

### 5/5 — Finally. The best budgeting app/bank!

*2026-02-22*

I absolutely love Envelope, after the close of Simple “Bank” I had been searching high and low for a comparable replacement. The idea is basic, but it works so well- I love being able to set goals, build envelopes, and have funds set aside and automatically taken out of the right place each month.

The team at Envelope has a transparent roadmap, always adding new features, and really thinking them through so they work well.

I’m highly impressed and can’t wait to see where they go!

### 5/5 — Amazing Banking App

*2026-02-22, version 1.40.422*

I moved to Envelope after being disappointed with the way my old bank was constantly changing their app’s features. I bit the bullet on Envelope’s annual fee on a leap of faith, and thankfully found the most important features I’ve been looking for in this app. I’m not just satisfied with Envelope, but elated.

Here’s what I love. You can color code each envelope. There are specific fields where you can specify the due date and amount due for each envelope. You can drag and drop your envelopes to re-sequence them. Each envelope can have a virtual card. There are seemingly unlimited envelopes and virtual cards. You can order a checkbook. You can set each envelope to be allocated a certain amount of funds, either by date or by paycheck.

I understand this app is rather new and some features are still in development. The following are the features that I would still love to see — I was a little disappointed that I didn’t see them mentioned on the development roadmap on Envelope’s website, but I’m hoping they may be introduced in 2026 or 2027.

You can only link one external bank account (would love if this were at least 2-3). You can’t instantly add money from external bank accounts via Apple Pay (this can be incredibly convenient when in a pinch). After searching online, I found there’s no fee to withdraw at Allpoint ATMs, but there’s nowhere in the app to see where nearby Allpoint ATMs are located; there’s an Allpoint app that does this, but it would be nice for this map to be integrated within Envelope. Most importantly to me, there is no Protected Overdraft amount. With funds being split among so many discrete accounts, it would make this app perfect if something like $100 were able to be overdrawn from the main checking account without Overdraft Fees. I would even pay more for this feature, so would hope that it might one day be introduced at least as a sort of ‘premium’ feature.

Edit: changing rating from 5 to 3 stars because the envelopes have no account numbers. Any bills that you have can only be paid out of the main checking account. This basically makes the pockets unusable unless your only goals are setting money aside and paying bills via virtual card.

Edit 2: thank you so much for clarifying! This is amazing and the best app I’ve ever used.

### 5/5 — Simple Banking finally has a long awaited replacement.

*2026-01-23, version 1.40.422*

An up and coming financial godsend based around envelope budgeting. Support is top tier for being such a small team. This is an early access app so there is work to be done. But I’m happy to be part of it. Worth it.

### 5/5 — Actually awesome

*2026-01-22, version 1.40.422*

As someone who’s failed a lot of budgets… this is the one that is sticking, because there is essentially no work required from me once I set everything up. Yes, it’s still in development and has a few quirks, but all of the features are great. This app has genuinely helped me decrease my stress about finances by 80%. Cheers to the devs.

### 5/5 — Simple Bank Revival

*2026-01-21*

If you remember Simple Bank and miss all the tools and features it offered to make your financial life easier, download Envelope. I searched high and low for alternatives after it closed. I bounced between numerous different Neobanks and financial tools that never filled the void that Simple Bank left, until I found Envelope. I’ve now been an Envelope user for a couple years now and it is only getting better. Ironically, I’m beginning to enjoy Envelope more than I ever did Simple. The road map is public and the team is relentless in executing their vision. Additionally, the team at Envelope has made it a point to make sure they are profitable by implementing a small monthly subscription charge ($5) if you end up not spending to a certain threshold in a given month. Simple Bank as amazing as it was created a great product with the idea they’d figure out how to generate profit later, which was part of their downfall. In any case, I believe Envelope will be around for a long time and it’s only going to get better.

### 5/5 — Timely Discovery

*2026-01-20, version 1.40.422*

I have been thinking to myself, “what if there were a bank version of the envelope method,” and never thought to look it up until recently. Not only was I surprised that it already existed, but the app continues to improve and get better the more I map my budget out within it. I highly recommend it!

### 2/5 — Setup Process is Horrible

*2025-12-24, version 1.40.19*

I’m a process guy and I mapped the setup process for this app so I could refer to it if I ever ran into issues, and where improvements can be made.

First, and foremost these folks are not upfront with any of it and it may come to a surprise to you as you move through the process if I do not share my experience.

First step: install the app

Second: Provide all your personal information, including DOB/SSN (required for KYC laws)

Third: Configure 2-Step Verification

Fourth: Choose your account type—joint or new.

Fifth: Choose your initial deposit amount.

Sixth: Configure Plaid to connect to an existing bank account to fulfill the deposit. Confirm code. Add account.

Seventh: Complete Deposit

Eighth: Choose a subscription—40.00 for the year, or $10.00/mo

Ninth: Enter credit card details—pay.

Tenth: ACCOUNT DETAILS CANNOT BE VERIFIED—wait 2 business days.

It’s been 3 business days, no email, no updates—nadda. So they’ve now got all your information, your money, your card details, etc., and you’re left wondering—WTF?

Instead of simply providing the email address to contact support, they make you jump through hoops to configure your mail client through their app.

I find this to be a less than desirable experience and I would caution anyone who decides to use it.

### 5/5 — By far the best bank I’ve ever used.

*2025-12-22, version 1.40.19*

Clean design. Incredible budgeting features. Best simple bank replacement I’ve used thus far.

### 5/5 — Finally!

*2025-12-17, version 1.40.19*

I’m so excited to have finally found a digital envelope that works! We’ve tried all the apps - YNAB, Every Dollar, excel sheets, all the things! None of those worked for us. We loved loved loved “Simple” before it closed and I think Envelope is going to be just as great or better even. 🙊 It’s truly life changing!

### 5/5 — Digital Envelopes at their Finest

*2025-11-17, version 1.40.18*

This has been the best app since we found Simple years ago. Was finally able to consolidate all banking accounts into a single app! The support is also fantastic, the devs are super responsive and even added a feature request I had to their roadmap. 10/10

### 2/5 — All Right

*2025-11-14, version 1.40.18*

You an only have a demo account and it doesn’t show a custom amount for transfers. Also, it isn’t flexible month to month, so people can’t change it if an envelope goes over or people need to change their transactions. They have cards but the cards can’t be used in real life and there is no place to record transactions.

### 5/5 — Greatest Financial App

*2025-10-07, version 1.40.16*

After Simple finance went out of business I was left wandering in the desert for two years trying to find a worthy replacement. When I heard about Envelope I signed up to be a beta tester. Envelope has now surpassed what Simple was and I hope they continue indefinitely. I’m an impulsive spender and cutting up all my credit cards and using this type of app is the only thing that works for me.

### 5/5 — Best ever

*2025-10-02, version 1.40.15*

For Simple refugees wandering in the wilderness for a decade, Envelope is everything we ever wanted, and more

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don’t download unless you are just looking for a new bank

*2026-04-24, version 1.42.460*

Terrible platform, terrible customer service, scam of an app. Not at all like what it appears to be and hard to find that out until after you pay for a subscription. Then once you realize that it isn’t what it appeared to be and you try to cancel you are told no refunds even when it’s the same day. Don’t get unless you are just looking for a new bank and to set everything up through them instead of your established bank oh and are willing to pay fees in the amount of $10 a month of $40 per year for a bank.

### 1/5 — App was terrible

*2025-04-14, version 1.37.0*

For trying to set up an account the app kept kicking me out. When I finally got it set up, it wouldn’t go anywhere it just kept asking me to create an account.

### 1/5 — False advertisement

*2024-11-26, version 1.033*

Not free. Look else where if you’re looking for a replacement for “Simple” or “ONE”.

### 1/5 — Is it a bank or not?

*2024-11-20, version 1.033*

Reviews say it’s a bank, the app says it’s NOT a bank. They want all my personal information including my SS# to access the app. No way!!! You’ve gotta have a trial where we can get an idea about what’s offered and feel comfortable with the security. So I didn’t make it past the sign up process. Seems interesting but not worth the risk.

### 1/5 — This has to just be a scam

*2024-08-05*

I would write this zero stars if I could I found this And decided to sign up with it I figured it would be a great way to budget everything out and plan for the future but it won’t there’s a five dollar membership charge before you even get anything done. I was charged membership charge and then denied an account with them there was no reasoning behind it, there is nowhere to dispute the charge besides my bank itself. I can’t cancel the charge anything so they essentially just took five dollars for me and then that’s it there’s I’ve looked for ways to reach out to contact support. If maybe they can fix it even their own website though has nothing for it.

**Developer response:** I’m sorry to hear about your experience. We understand how frustrating this situation must be, and we want to help. If you tap the “Message Support” button in the app or reach out to us at hello@envelopemoney.com, we can assist you further. We may need a bit more information to verify your identity and comply with federal regulations. Thank you for your feedback, and we hope to resolve this for you!

### 1/5 — An absolute scam

*2024-05-16*

Envelope is, without a doubt, an absolute scam. You are charged an upfront fee for the most worthless barebones fin-tech app on the market. The app offers legitimately no value, customer service is essentially non-existent and most of the positive reviews seem to be internally concocted by Envelope staff. Do you want to throw away $5 for an app that does absolutely nothing, offers no value and cannot keep your funds safe? Well, sounds like Envelope is for you. If you value your money and do not enjoy doing business with shady businesses I recommend staying away from Envelope.

**Developer response:** We're sorry to hear about your experience with Envelope. We aim to provide valuable financial tools, and we apologize for falling short for you.

Please note that we offer 24/7 phone support in partnership with Visa for urgent issues and have an in-house team available via text or email during banking hours for non-urgent messages. Regarding your concerns about the reviews, we assure you that we value honest and genuine feedback from our users. We do not condone or engage in any practices to fabricate reviews.

We would appreciate the chance to address your concerns directly. Please contact our support team at hell@envelopemoney.com.

Thank you,
The Envelope Team

### 1/5 — Poor Customer Support & Communication

*2024-01-26, version 1.014*

Yikes. I feel terrible writing but Envelope has continuously ignored me on several occasions. I first gave them the benefit of doubt and played ball with their alleged technical problems. But my latest email took nearly three weeks to receive a response. Lastly, they are doing a poor job communicating general changes! They rarely email and require you to read all the Discord messages.

### 1/5 — Can’t open an account.

*2023-10-22*

The app may as well not exist. You can’t open an account.

### 1/5 — Why Can’t I use my own bank?

*2023-05-06, version 1.004*

Wanted. To try this out but can’t I’m not giving up my banks I’ve already have. Why not just import my transactions from my own bank?

### 1/5 — Interested, but can’t even sign up

*2023-02-18, version 1.0*

I miss Simple Bank so deeply and have been looking for a replacement for a long time. I received an email today saying I was off the wait list for envelope and went to sign up. It is telling me my password I generated and pasted in 1Password doesn’t meet the requirements. But it doesn’t let me see the password characters. Neither does it say which aspects of the password I am not meeting (I am meeting all of them). Frustrating trying to use this and not being able too.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — So Grateful for Envelope

*2026-06-24, version 1.42.460*

Finally, a bank that budgets the way I do. Automate your budget, know how much you can spend each paycheck - perfection. Life changing!

### 5/5 — Harry n

*2026-06-14, version 1.42.460*

This is the best budgeting app out there. Instead of it just helping you understand where you are spending after you spend it stops you from breaking your budget. Anyone trying to follow a budget should use this app! It will change your life.

### 5/5 — Best banking solution ever for families

*2026-05-31, version 1.42.460*

Saved our family finances. Best banking and budgeting took for families and individuals. Saved us.

### 5/5 — Great so far!

*2026-05-21, version 1.42.460*

Initially got decline for signup - I tried again a couple weeks later - this time without taking any privacy measures with email or payment, and I got in. So far the experience is great and this has the best tech support imaginable (available with a text). Hoping they implement some kind of instant free transfer, like Zelle, and then this could be my main bank!

### 5/5 — Best Budgeting App I’ve Ever Used!!!

*2026-05-09*

This app is so good… I promote it like the developers are paying me!! This app is a tool the helps you IN REAL TIME budget and think about your spending. A lot of apps you give a projection of what you want to spend or can spend. You normally would set aside money for a, b, c, etc. after that you do the best you can remembering how much is in the budget and so forth. This app goes another step. You actually have features that make you think twice about spending. You keep your money nice and neat in the envelopes. No more surprise transactions because each envelope can have a virtual card. I connect Netflix to it’s on Envelope and fund it accordingly. Amazing app.

### 5/5 — Praise be envelope!

*2026-05-05, version 1.42.460*

Simple is back, and even better this time.
I’ve been waiting YEARS for the replacement of simple bank and this is it. But it’s cleaner, sleeker and the support is A+++

Please don’t go away.

### 5/5 — Hope Restored for Simple/ONE/Monzo/Qube Users Left Hanging

*2026-05-01*

Envelope is a breath of fresh air and a restoration of hope for the multitudes left hanging by the fintech companies of days past. (RIP Simple, Qube, Monzo, or the lost features of ONE).

The app/service is developed by two people genuinely invested in the banking/budgeting experience as former Simple Bank users themselves. They actively seek feedback and build the product around user needs rather than what will make the most money.

Recently when both Qube and Monzo announced their wind down of services in the US, Envelope quickly adjusted their product roadmap/development plans to help the flood of migrating customers, working to make the transition as easy as possible for them.

While there is still work to be done, and some wrinkles here and there, I’ve quickly become a staunch supporter of Envelope and what the team is building.

Best banking/budgeting-in-one app available, no contest.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-04-28, version 1.42.460*

Ok I never do this. Literally never. But if you are struggling with a budget and want to keep your entire budget all within one app as a simple money manager the old school way with a twist. Simple Ui, native iOS language code, easy to understand. This will help you with your goals to achieve a managed budget that doesn’t manage you. Early direct deposit, savings account with competitive APY, virtual card numbers. It’s everything you want in a bank without the clunky, useless apps your typical bank has.

### 5/5 — Wonderful App and Developers

*2026-04-21, version 1.42.460*

The app is everything I’ve hoped for since Qube and One got bought out. And they’re adding new features all the time. The owners Josh and Katelyn are very kind and helpful and are always quick to respond. Definitely work checking out for your budgeting and financial needs.

### 5/5 — Finally found the right App!

*2026-03-10, version 1.40.422*

Super helpful way to track and plan for expenses, and it’s integrated with an actual bank! Not only that, but the app interface is superb. I tried a few other options before finding Envelope, now my search is over. Highly recommend!
