### 4/5 — One star short of perfect

*2025-02-06, version 3.2.1*

It’s too bad that the developer for this app doesn’t update it so that it works in the cloud so that it can be shared between devices. This is the only app like this in the App Store. I would actually pay $15 a year for a subscription if it synced between devices.

### 4/5 — Love the simplicity

*2025-01-26, version 3.2.1*

I love the simplicity of this app. Too many apps have too much going on when you login. The only thing holding me back from using it is the lack of ability to categorize transactions and see them visualized in a pie chart (for each envelope) so I can see at a glance where my money is going each month. This is what helps me make changes over time to further reduce the amount I need to put in each envelope. Would love to be notified if this feature is added in the future.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-06-29, version 3.2.1*

I have been using this app for quite a while. I love it’s simplicity and ease of use. I’m always able to see how much money I have in each envelope, without having to carry around a notebook. I do wish I was able to add my husband, so he can see what is in each envelope.

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2024-05-28, version 3.2.1*

I love how simple this app is to use. But I just wish it didn’t show me my total balance at the top. I like how is shows me for each envelope but I wish the total was not on top. Or that there was a way to remove it if you like. But other than that this is a wonderful app.

### 5/5 — Easiest Budgeting System

*2024-05-23, version 3.2.1*

Raised 4 children as a single mom using this system. Stopped using it for a while and realized I have personal goals that I want to accomplish and this system will definitely help me from my past experience.

### 5/5 — Simple design

*2024-02-21, version 3.2.1*

This app may look too basic but really it is power. I tried a more complicated one but ran into issues with it not linking to the bank and it taking so long to enter your information. This on is really easy, but you have to know how to make it really work. This app wont teach you how to maximize, but if you have this knowledge already this is perfect. Even easy for teens to learn how to envelope budget.

### 4/5 — Get back in the lab.

*2024-02-07, version 3.2.1*

I love this app but I miss the old apps ability to attach notes/descriptions to the individual envelopes. Also it would be nice to be able to search transactions across envelopes.

### 5/5 — Great app, everything I need for “digital cash stuffing”

*2024-01-04, version 3.2.1*

This app is great. It does everything I need to do “digital cash stuffing” (without envelopes and actual cash). I like the clear interface and Quick Deposit feature. I also like the fact that it doesn’t have extra unnecessary features that really just make budgeting apps confusing and overly complicated. My only critique is that the User Guide is a bit long and doesn’t have a search function (from what I can tell) so a search function, FAQ section or app tutorial would be great for the few occasions where I have had questions. Otherwise it does everything I need and has been great for helping get my budget in order!

### 5/5 — Love it!!

*2023-11-26, version 3.2.1*

So simple and easy to use!

Only thing I would love it to have, Is to be able to group envelopes in different groups so you can have the balance at top for each group.

### 5/5 — Simplified household/daily needs budget.

*2023-06-27, version 3.2.1*

Very easy way to track my spending and stay on budget as I save for a substantial goal. Perfect to have on my mobile phone without a monthly subscription fee.
It’s like having budget envelopes in my pocket. Thank-you to the creator for sharing this.

### 5/5 — My Favourite App of All Time

*2023-04-18, version 3.2.1*

Yeah okay it’s pretty nerdy for my favourite app to be a budgeting app, but I’m a budget fanatic and I haven’t been able to find a single app that stacks up to this. I temporarily lost my iPhone and my backup phone wasn’t iOS so I couldn’t use this app for awhile and I my money management went out the window. Thank goodness I got my phone back.

In any case, this app is simple, nice to look at, and does its job perfectly. The quick deposit feature is fantastic. Every fortnight when I get paid, I hit the little arrow at the top of the list and all my money goes exactly where I need it to.

Brilliant!

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2023-03-26, version 3.2.1*

This is such a simple premise but so helpful for everyday budgeting. I've been using for years and recommend to all my friends.

### 4/5 — Old School Method for Modern Times

*2023-01-30, version 3.2.1*

If most people are like me they probably have their paychecks direct deposited and seldom ever have cash on hand. This app allows you to use the old school method of putting cash into envelopes for budgeting, by allowing you to put your digital money into digital envelopes for budgeting. It’s a simple yet effective method when you’re diligent enough to keep up with recording your transactions. There are some possible improvements that could be made. As other reviewers have mentioned it would be nice to be able to sync to the phone of a spouse so both can be on the same page and know where the family budget stands. Would be nice if you could have multiple “accounts”, if you have a joint account and a personal account. Or perhaps an account for cash or for credit card could be created. Even without these features though it’s still a very useful app to use when budgeting.

### 5/5 — Keeps me on track

*2022-07-02, version 3.2.1*

This app does the business. It keeps track of all the different “accounts” I have within my bank accounts seamlessly. I always know how much money I have available for each purpose and it’s easy to check against my bank account total since the sum total of all envelopes is right at the top of the app. I use the bulk quick deposit option when I get paid and then just have to make sure to enter any transactions I do during the day so I can see exactly where my money is. I love knowing exactly how much fun money I have left.

### 4/5 — Nice and simple for the everyday person

*2022-05-02, version 3.2.1*

Written prior: Nice and simple for the everyday person... but I’d like to see a few options added: -A history of every move the money makes (rather than having to tap on each and every envelope...) -A separate “tag” for each transaction. I’d like to have a tag for cash, checking, savings, PayPal, gift cards... or whatever I wish & be able to see the total of what is in each. It’s hard to put in any money but what’s in my checking for me, because the “total” number throws me off when I add cash into the envelopes. I can’t easily double check my work with my checking account’s amount. For example: I spend a $20 cash bill on groceries but have to use my debit to buy the remaining $2.49 from my checking. I want to know that I didn’t take $22.49 all out of checking. -A search feature would always be nice -A way to upload my data to the cloud/export to pdf... or something. Just in case something happens to my phone. Thanks for the great app! I’d love to see it continue to grow!

2022 additional notes: ditto to everything I said before. I’d still like to see more done with this app. Right now my top priority would be a login or some sort of way to backup to a cloud without backing up the whole phone. At a very minimum please update your app with new color schemes or something simple so people know this app is not dead. I use this app everyday and love the user friendliness of it. BUT I would still love to see more done with it!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2022-04-07, version 3.2.1*

I’ve used this app for three years and I love it. It’s simple and straightforward and helps me keep a decent budget.

### 5/5 — Best!

*2022-04-02, version 3.2.1*

I couldn’t live without this app. I know down to the penny what I have and where it’s going. I also love how I can write notes about what I spent it on. Fantastic!

### 4/5 — One item shy of perfect

*2022-01-15, version 3.2.1*

This app is just what I was looking for with the exception of one thing. I wish there was a way to have recurring deposits or withdrawals rather than having to manually add them. Some deposits and payments are the same amounts monthly.

### 5/5 — Love It!

*2021-11-27, version 3.2.1*

This app is exactly what I was looking for. I’m able to envelope budget digitally. What I like most is that I also created envelopes for annual budgeting (i.e. Amazon Prime, AAA, Christmas budget, and other annual subscriptions). Instead of getting hit with the big number once a year, it’s easier for me to divide the cost by 12 months, then put that amount in an envelope each month so when the yearly bill comes up, I’ve already saved the money.

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2021-10-25, version 3.2.1*

I would be lost without this app.

Each paycheck I siphon money into a separate account and I use this app to create digital envelopes to account for that money.

I love having this app organize these things for me! I cannot thank the developer enough!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2020-09-18, version 3.2*

I love this app but it is crashing every time I try to transfer money between envelopes.

### 1/5 — Too manual to ever be useful

*2020-01-02, version 3.2*

I thought it would give an option to connect to your bank account and track real dollars from envelopes without having to manually enter every transaction you make. Bummer I lost $7 because this wasn’t clear.

### 1/5 — Total Rip Off 👎

*2019-08-10, version 3.1.3*

What is the point of this app??!! I can’t deposit any REAL money from my actual bank account. This is false advertising and I wasted $7!! I wish I could give it ZERO stars.

### 1/5 — 10 minutes in and I’m already disappointed

*2019-04-08, version 3.1*

I just bought this app 10 minutes ago and I’m already disappointed. I was under the impression that I would be able to connect it to my financial institution. I can’t. A budgeting app does no good if you can’t connect it to your bank. I also can’t find any customer service on the app?

### 2/5 — Good app no ability to share

*2020-04-05, version 3.2*

Excellent way of keeping track of your money but if you are in a relationship only one person can utilize this app. This app would def be a 5 star if you could share the info (not just the app in family sharing) between users...

### 2/5 — Missing most important features

*2018-10-09*

This app is missing some vital features: SYNCING
The most vital ability is for more than one device to have access to view the envelopes. Your data is landlocked to just your phone. I was sitting here trying to make a case for using this between my wife and I, but it is just not there.
AUTO-RESET
For repeating envelopes per month, it would be nice to be able to reset with a single button or process. This is definitely a high ranking feature that is missing in this version.
NOTES
Another missing feature that other reviewers have mentioned is the Notes ability. I used this some on the old version of the app, but I can see this is an important one.
IMPORT
I lost several years of data when I switched over due to the “Developer needs to update” messages. I bought the app hoping this might import the old data since I could not even open the old app to view it. Gone, baby ... gone.

Without these and some other improvements, this app does not hold up to its seven (7) dollar price.

### 2/5 — Has the basic needs.

*2018-06-13, version 3.0.2*

The reason I give this two stars is because if it’s very basic capabilities and the fact you’re paying so much money for something you can get for free with other apps. Another huge driver for the low rating is the fact that you can’t press one button and automatically fill your envelopes. You have to individually enter each amount into each envelope. So a person who has a lot of envelopes like say 20 envelopes this task becomes cumbersome. An auto fill or fill all envelopes feature would be nice.

**Developer response:** The app does have a Quick Deposit feature. There's a user guide in the app settings that explains it 👌

### 2/5 — Did not import data after iOS 11 update

*2018-01-19, version 3.0.2*

I had balances in my envelopes when I updated to iOS 11 the old envelopes won’t open. Says “developer needs to update” I paid for the new envelopes because they said it would import data. When I clicked to merge I got the message “developer needs to update” and it did not transfer my data.

### 3/5 — Good and Want More

*2020-05-04, version 3.2*

This is what I’d been looking for in terms of straight forward balance and seeing where things go as they’re spent and not at the top of the month. It allows for the manual check in as money is spent cause you input info on your own. I wish there was a feature to have an amount separate from the balance where you can track an amount being paid off. I’d like to deduct from the balance for debt payments while keeping a true balance of available funds and not a figure construed based on the debt amount.

Also, simple additives like more envelop colors and an updated user face would make it more appealing. I’m about simplicity and aesthetics. I wish it were more inviting and appealing to the eye.

I’ve only set my envelopes up so far but will get paid tomorrow and can start using it and see how I like the functionality as I begin spending.

### 3/5 — Awesome concept, could be executed better.

*2019-08-19, version 3.1.3*

To start, is this app worth the $6/7 I paid for it? Absolutely not—MAYBE $3, but that’s a strong maybe. The concept itself is just way too simple to justify spending almost $10 on, but since it’s really only one of two of its kind, I bit the bullet and I will say that I’m still happy with the purchase.

Now, the concept is perfect. It’s such a simpler way to track my spending since I do use actual cash envelopes, instead of using an expense tracker. I’m absolutely happy that they’ve made this into an app and that they don’t make you link an account to use it like a bank or however that would work (although, that’s a good idea for a separate app).

The colors are weird, and I wish there were way more. Also, the app looks a little outdated. If you have people spending $6 on an app, at least make the software look modern. GoodNotes 5, Procreate, Notability, etc. were all about the same amount of money and this app doesn’t do even a FRACTION of what they do... Which brings me back to my first point, the price.

Overall, it’s a great concept. I just hope the developers will listen to the reviewers, as we’ve all pretty much said the same things. When the changes happen, I will change my rating.

### 5/5 — Best App

*2026-08-07, version 3.2.1*

So simple. So easy. I love this app.

### 5/5 — Easy & Helpful App

*2026-07-03, version 3.2.1*

This app is amazing and so easy to use. Knowing where your money is going gives a huge peace of mind. Most people don’t budget their funds, they just hope to not overspend, that was me until I found Envelopes. I like that it’s just information, not actually connected to the bank. If the total number in my checking matched the total number in my envelopes app, then the budget is balanced! I like to run many categories, all the bills are basically fixed, but then I have the things that are variable- like entertainment, travel, clothes, household…these expenses have wiggle room, so I can change up the amounts as needed. I don’t ever worry about not having money for what I need/want- if it’s been planned for in the envelopes app and I’m balanced, I can cover that cost! Budgeting gives you financial freedom!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2026-07-03, version 3.2.1*

I really appreciate this app! It is very simple and helps. Keep all my digital money organized. Several of my children are using it as well and it just helps with budgeting and money management. I love how it’s customizable with colors and organization. Definitely worth it!

### 5/5 — Outstanding Budget App

*2026-06-27, version 3.2.1*

This is a truly great app for both information and financial discipline. Thank you for helping me have a perfect credit score for years. Try it - you’ll like it. Gil

### 5/5 — My favorite app

*2026-02-28, version 3.2.1*

My husband and I have been using this app for YEARS, it’s the only thing that keeps our budget on-track because it is so simple

### 5/5 — Love the simplicity

*2025-04-27, version 3.2.1*

We just needed a simple envelope app - and this is it!
The one off purchase price is sooo much better for us than a subscription. And the quick deposit feature is great.

### 5/5 — Love everything except…

*2025-01-07, version 3.2.1*

This app is great! However there’s 2 small things that I’d LOVE to see added. First, it would be great to organize the envelopes further into folders! (Ex: bills all in one folder, subscriptions in one, etc). Second, it’s minor but I’d like to change the color of the envelopes using a color wheel instead of being limited to preselect colors!

### 5/5 — Simple envelope budget tool

*2024-08-03, version 3.2.1*

Just what I was looking for when my budgeting program of 25 years stopped working. This envelope system is a no frills way to keep me on track and make sure I don’t over spend. Set up as many envelopes needed to pay bills, spend, and save. One thing I miss is being able to print a summary of the envelope balances, which came in handy when my last budget program crashed, but I can screen shot the envelope list instead.

### 5/5 — Add export

*2024-07-22, version 3.2.1*

hello there! awesome app! I use every day. I was wondering if you can add an "export" or "Share an envelope" option, u know, Like, hey this is what I have spent during my trip. export to PDF or excel. Thank you

### 5/5 — I love this app. Simple, as a budget should be.

*2024-07-02, version 3.2.1*

This app doesn't have any fancy bells and whistles, which is why I love it. Most budgeting apps try to do everything, like tracking your income, bills, spending, etc. But if you have your bills sorted out and set to auto pay, all you really need to worry about is your discretionary spending for the month. That's what this app allows you to easily do: allot money to envelopes, and withdraw what you spend.
