However on canto, I can open and review a simple X-ray. The orders tab is atrocious, and you can even review ecgs. Even something as simple as being able to color code the patients on the main screen, that I could do myself, To show if patient was already seen, if something needs to be followed up on, etc.. ### 2/5 — Now, even more useless *2024-04-05* Somehow the developers managed to take an app with limited utility and make it even worse. I used to be able to view imaging results and to sort encounters and imaging studies through a homunculus-type interface. Neither of those things exist now. I’d hoped that they’d improve upon that and to also allow seamless transitions back and forth between desktop and tablet. However, it still will not allow the user to edit a note that was opened by a desktop. ### 2/5 — Constantly nags for alerts *2023-11-27, version 10.7* This app works ok for what it is supposed to do. Has some frustrating limitations but overall does help with mobile access to the EHR. It does however nag you to turn on alerts and it does this 100% of the time you log into the app…EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. I do not want my iPad to ding with alerts—I don’t want them and won’t turn them on. Please turn off this thoughtless nag; its infuriating. ### 1/5 — Joke *2023-03-19, version 10.4.1* What a joke of an app. This should essentially be a fully functional way to access EPIC from a mobile device for charting, but it is not. I can’t even attest previously resident notes in an efficient fashion because the standard attestation dot phrases do not work. ### 2/5 — Can’t do notes *2022-12-12, version 10.3* This app will only truly be useful when it has the capability of allowing you to finish office visit notes. ### 1/5 — Disappointing unable to edit notes *2022-12-05, version 10.2.5* A major pitfall is that the user cannot edit notes, depriving the user of a major functionality that would optimize efficiency. How is this possible? ### 1/5 — Edit handoffs and write notes w smart phrases *2022-11-07, version 10.2.5* For a week last month i could edit handoffs and write notes with smart phrases, and it was life changing. Now those features have disappeared without explanation. These two features would be absolutely necessary to make haiku more helpful for clinicians. Currently it’s a crippled app. ### 1/5 — It’s hard to explain how bad it is *2022-11-05* Everything you might want to do on an iPad is hobbled in this app. How is mobile not a priority still???? Dot phrases don’t work in attestation. Completing all kinds of things like finishing a note forces a “defer to workstation”. Epic hasn’t looked modern in a decade and this app addition fails to resolve that. It’s old bad UI design, poor use ability, with no project focus on what a user might want to do while mobile. There should be no inbox item that has to be left to the desktop. And yet all this does is force back to the desktop over and over again **Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback. One would think that this app would be useful at those times when you are away from a workstation or at a conference and want to pull up a patients notes and edit them on your iPad. Unfortunately that can’t be done. This is basically a glorified iPad version of Haiku with nearly all its limitations. Also as a warning, using it during international conferences will require special permission from your IT department, otherwise it is completely nonfunctional. Another issue is that it works poorly or not at all on Wi-Fi. iPad will need LTE connection or link to a LTE connected device. Given the amount of money our hospital system has poured into EPIC it would be nice for the company to come up with a app that is actually helpful to physicians. I hope they are able to upgrade this soon. It has so much potential, but is not there yet. Also, it would be nice to be able to edit problem list and see future appointments. **Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback. If there are other features, you'd like to see added please let us know via email at Haikuhelp@epic.com. ### 2/5 — No snap board or OR BOARD *2022-05-26, version 10.2* Has no way to view OR board. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Needs a Black Theme *2026-04-17, version 11.7.4* Needs a Black/dark Theme or a dark background , it drains the iPad battery super fast ### 1/5 — Extremely disappointing; please enhance with truly practical features for mobile end users. *2026-01-20* Extremely disappointing app. Unbelievable that it does not offer features to filter or organize the display of data of the various tabs with features, such as the chronological order, status, priority, result, date, in the different tabs, such as Patient call, staff message, results, all reminders, patient advice request. It misses so much functionality of the desktop. Years later and really no significant enhancements or updates that really facilitate user workflow or try to mimic or capture the desktop experience. There’s the potential to make this so much better, but it appears there’s no effort to do so. Do they even vet the users to see what features end users desire? With the predominantly low ratings from user feedback, it’s a shame that they don’t use the feedback to really incorporate the sensible features end users need and request. When you dictate something and it still says violation of Siri, on certain windows yet not others It is really puzzling. please make the necessary changes/updates so that users don’t have to rely upon the desktop only for practical ways to review, respond, and organize results, messages, phone calls. Also, wouldn’t it be a wonderful app if you could edit your outpatient notes on the iPad, enhancing the Mobile use experience tremendously. In contrast I love the desktop app. This falls extremely short and almost appears to have been abandoned by Epic. I really wanted to use this for reviewing patient labs and refilling medications after work without having to open an entire laptop. As I go through labs and refills, I am missing all the normal quick actions, and vital info that help me make decisions and communicate to the patient. I cannot see a simple icon showing if they have an active MyChart account, when I last filled the med, or even when their next visit is with me. This effectively makes it worthless to me, and saves me no time. I find myself leaving most of the results and requests for when I get back to a functional view within the desktop application. I don’t see why this couldn’t be the exact same as the desktop application. ### 1/5 — Crashes immediately with my set up *2025-05-16, version 11.4.1* New version crashes and closes every time I respond to a message. ### 1/5 — Why we cannot write note here *2024-12-02, version 11.2.1* There is no way to type in notes here, just why? I really wish the Epic people listened to feedback and would work on this. ### 1/5 — Lost features in last update? *2024-10-01* Noticed that some activity slot options have lost the ability to modify anything within them. In particular, the “Status Board” activity defaults to the one set at the desktop - and ONLY the one at the desktop. I use it with the Apple Pencil, and it is amazing that it shows up live on Epic desktop. Please allow palm rejection and better writing tools. Otherwise, excellent app. ### 5/5 — Great app on rounds/clinic *2024-08-02* I use this app on a daily basis, for 10 hours a day as a physician. I especially LOVE the Jot feature with my Apple Pencil and iPad mini. Please refine the Jot feature more to allow selection of different eraser sizes. I LOVE the jot feature and being able to take patient handwritten notes. Please also allow connection to external monitor, as many of us now use the iPad as a primary device. Very nice view of vitals and lab results. 5. Very good for quick presentations and updates in the AM. Negatives: 1. Still can’t write progress notes etc. 2. No MAR function, can see what drugs they are on but not if it was given. 3. No way to view imaging. ### 4/5 — Nice app *2014-06-08, version 3.1.1* This app compliments the EPIC system well. It is easy to navigate and quickly access information. As I use the iPad app primarily while I am on call two additional features would make it 5 stars. One is the ability to place and route telephone notes and second to have the ability to e-scribe. ### 4/5 — A good start *2012-04-03, version 1.1.2* It is a clean uncluttered interface. However it is limited. You do, have however the ability to look at hospital notes. So the previous reviewer may not have that functionality implemented at his hospital. Or seen the nonobvious way to get to them. I agree that the ability to interact in some way, especially order writing and writing progress notes would make this a truly useful app. ### 3/5 — Theme: Dark mode for the user interface *2026-03-16* Hi, I know it takes a lot to update an app, and I do appreciate Canto and haiku from epic. There’s one request. Hopefully this can reach you guys that’s very important to all clinicians and providers. And that is the ability to have a dark mode theme or the theme that’s on the laptops and desktops called carbon. That will turn the screen to a dark mode theme which makes it easier on your eyes of providers who are constantly use Canto in haiku. Please bring this feature to the app. ### 3/5 — Dark mode *2026-01-06* I have been using Cantu for almost 7 years, and what I can tell you is, it’s not bad for a Quick glands and to know what you have going on with your patience. The one thing that is missing it’s a dark mode. Or a dark theme, which is enabled on the desktops. You have themes in the settings for the iPad, which are aqua green and the standard blue. But a night theme or dark carbon theme is definitely needed for people who use it all the time and have eyes strained because of the back light. Please bring dark mode to Cantu and also haiku. ### 3/5 — Ambient listening? *2025-09-22* Why would you have ambient listening feature that disables all other functions of the app? I was looking forward to turning on the ambient listening function then going through the chart with my patient.
