I like the intuitive interface a lot. ### 5/5 — Earthquake Geeks Unite! *2015-04-28* I live in an active earthquake zone and some of my family members do as well. The Epicenter app makes it really fun and easy to see what kind of activity is going on around us, at which magnitude and what frequency. I love the slick twirling globe and intuitive features. You can auto play the earthquake activity timeline from start to finish, or move the slider back and forth manually to study certain dates. They also give you two different view toggles: you can choose to see all earthquake occurrences accumulate on the screen, or see them appear and disappear as the timeline progresses. The accumulation view really helps you get a quick visual sense of how much activity has been going on in an area of interest. The interval view makes it easy to see all the places that had occurrences on any given date. You can tap on each dot to see exactly where and when the earthquake occurred. This app really gave me and my family a new understanding of just how much earthquake activity is going on all over the world...especially where we live! A fun little tool to get friends and kids interested in seismology (and bonus by-product: staying sharp on geography!) Lastly, Epicenter has a widget you can include in your Today view in the iOS Notification pulldown. It tells you the most recent occurrence closest to you as well as the latest largest one in the world. Just shows the loading screen for a fraction of a second, crashes, then goes to iphone home page again. **Developer response:** Hello, sorry for the troubles. I can no longer zoom in to anywhere on Earth, the app just crashes. I can only see recent quakes from my locality, and when I try to see other parts of the world, it crashes. So disappointing! It’s basically guessing the general area when I look at map. Enlarge by at least 6! Secondly: I’d love to see ocean’s topography!! **Developer response:** Hello, thanks for the feedback, we are working on a cost effective solution for both items you mention. ### 3/5 — Flat ocean *2017-10-26* I like this app, but really an earthquake map should show the topography of the ocean floor, not leave it blank as though we are looking at the top of the ocean at sea level. When there’s an earthquake on a mid-ocean ridge I want to be able to exactly where it was in relation to other ridges or junctions or subduction zones. This app is missing details of 2/3 of the world. But I am a geophysicist. The 3d display capability in epicenter+ is what I’ve always wanted for my iPhone. One suggestion, could we select a specific date we want to look at from the dates on the bottom? I’d like to see the location of the earthquakes that happened in my town all morning. **Developer response:** Yes you can, select the Map button on the lower left and switch the Earthquake Time Mode to Interval. Then you can use the date scroller to pick the date you wish and see just the earthquakes that occurred on that day (Accumulate mode plots all earthquakes up until the selected date). Thank you for the kind review! ### 5/5 — Great App *2025-03-09* This is an awesome app, and the dev seems very attentive to dealing with issues and keeping things up to date and working smoothly. For some reason I can no longer get the app to work on my phone. When I try to open it, it immediately crashes and closes again. My first assumption is that the issue is on my end. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, but my iOS is really outdated(v16.3). Updating that may fix the issue. The base is an earth globe, rotatable in any direction. Tap on an earthquake's dot for detailed infomation. Appears to use USGS data. (Previous review edited and updated. iPhone issue went away.) ### 5/5 — Want past history? *2020-07-22* Being able to look back 30 days tells the story, but many active fault aren’t moving that much: would more history be available? Just a thought. Got the Mmo reference. Me, too. **Developer response:** The initial motivation for the app was to be a bit different from other earthquake apps, thus the 30 day sliding window. But if one likes the app, I can appreciate how one would want to access more historical data and I am considering that. I appreciate your suggestion. ### 5/5 — Just download it. You won’t be disappointed! *2019-09-07* Real passion has gone into this super cool app. Developer obviously understands tectonics. ### 5/5 — Great interactive map *2019-06-24* I live in CA, and my family is scattered throughout the state. I original got this so I could track the activity of their area, but the map is so much fun to use that I've started monitoring other areas of the world too. The ring of fire is particularly interesting to keep an eye on. It's good to stay educated in the world around you. I've learned that Californa is not at all the worst place to live in regards to earthquakes! Stay safe out there. My favorite part about the map is the global 3d sphere. It's really easy to jump around to different locations and review the quakes. I love the map is not politically divided - it's all topho (at least that's how I keep my settings). As you zoom in, the state/country dividers pop up, but when you zoom out, they fade away which I love. Or you can select plate boundaries to be toggled on, which is pretty sweet too look at. Great app. Definitely learning more about the world. ### 5/5 — Great App! *2018-01-11* I’m a geologist and I will use this for work. Love that it gives me all the USGS information on my phone and it works with the Apple Watch as well!
