## What is Epicycle?

Epicycle is a MIDI sequencer for iPhone and iPad. Every rhythm is a Euclidean ring, and each track's parameters generate its pattern. Layer rings of different lengths for polymeter, and hear them on the built-in sound engine with no external gear.

EUCLIDEAN RINGS
Each track is a ring, and you can run up to eight at once. A track's pattern follows from its parameters, so you see the rhythm as a shape.

POLYMETER
Give tracks different lengths and they play together. Loop-lock protects one track's pattern while you change the others.

SCENES
Save pattern states as scenes and launch them with quantize.

FREE TO PLAY
Epicycle is free to download. The full sound engine and every creative feature are free, up to eight tracks, with no time limit.

MIDI OUT, CLOCK AND EXPORT
A one-time lifetime unlock adds live MIDI out, MIDI clock in and out, and .mid export, so you can drive and sync external hardware and apps.

Requires iOS 18 or later. VoiceOver is supported.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-27

What's new in 1.0.2:

- Fixes a bug in 1.0.1 that silenced Epicycle's built-in sounds on iPhone and iPad.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-26

What's new in 1.0.1:

- Redo now sits beside Undo.
- Open .epicycle projects straight from AirDrop, Mail and Files.
- The MIDI routing panel scrolls on small iPhones, and its text no longer cuts off.
- New tracks start with no MIDI destination, and older projects opened without the unlock drop their locked routes, so no more padlocks under every track.
- Project cards no longer show a padlock without the unlock. MIDI file export is in each card's long-press menu.
- Routing latency and program change now live under Advanced.
- A clearer loop-lock icon.
- The sound picker has its own row in Sculpt.
- Settings gains help, support and privacy links.
- Paywall fixes: Restore works during Ask to Buy, a retry appears when the price cannot load, and error messages are plainer.
- Large text on iPhone stays readable, and the welcome tour's Next and Got it buttons stay reachable.
- The welcome tour now stays up when you change views.
- Long-pressing a track no longer also opens Sculpt.
- The tempo popover closes on the first tap outside it.
- Knobs once again preview on hold.
- Better VoiceOver support on the paywall.
- External MIDI clock sync is more reliable.
