It’s relaxing to me and allows me to “study” Spanish as I wind down for sleep. The ONLY complaint I have is the self-help books (and maybe others? I’m not sure) are books _about_ the book itself, which is not really the same as reading a simplified version of the book, the way the others are written. In other words, instead of having the book be a simplified version of How to win friends and influence people, the book talks about why the book became so popular and what from the book resonated with people. **Developer response:** Thank you — reading before bed is exactly how a lot of people use Eppika, and it's good to hear it works for you. Fair point on the self-help titles. A novel can be retold scene by scene; a non-fiction book has no plot, so we retell its ideas through short scenes instead, and that reads differently from the original. Nick, Eppika ### 3/5 — Great idea. Doesn’t work well *2026-07-26* The iOS developers are clearly more focussed on asking for money every few minutes rather than actually making the app work! I would have paid if it worked!! 🤦🏼‍♂️ The play button only played audio first time I used it. After that I only saw an endless activity indicator! Come on devs! Just use it to learn Spanish and you’ll see it’s buggy!!!!! Then I will change my review - when you make the feature of playing audio more stable **Developer response:** You're right, and it isn't your device. We've found a fault where the audio fails to load and hangs on the spinner instead of starting. It's logged, it's affecting a lot of people, and we're working on it. I won't give you a date I can't keep. Two things that sometimes get it moving meanwhile: force-close and reopen the app, and try on a different network. Some of these failures are the audio file never fetching at all. You said you'd revisit the review once audio is stable. That's fair, and I'd rather earn that than ask for it. For years I’ve looked for stories I could read in Spanish that weren’t terribly boring or too difficult. The Eppika stories are at my level and they’re interesting. In addition to practicing more with friends and family, listening to Spanish podcasts, and watching shows with Spanish subtitles or dubbed, this app is certainly playing a part in helping me gain confidence in learning a new language. **Developer response:** This is exactly what we hoped reading nightly would do — and pairing it with podcasts, subtitles and real conversations is the right way to do it. However, I wanted to say that the reason I chose to download is due to the thoughtful responses of the developer to others. Thank you for caring about your customers. After using the app for a few days: I love that I could just jump to my intermediate level and begin learning! I have never found a language program that allowed this; and I have searched for years! The books are interesting and entertaining. I am enjoying reading in a way I did not expect. I love that I can practice the tenses in Spanish in real time! (Especially past tense!) I love the feature that will allow me to save words I do not understand. I have two suggestions: 1. After I practice the vocabulary word. I would like to use the “hard/ easy” tool. Could you make it sort my words so that I can just review the words I marked “hard” for me? Also, I would love a highlight tool. So that I could highlight phrases to review. I’m at level 94 after 800 days with Duolingo French and this intermediate level story was perfect. I was unsure of a few words but just touched them for a translation. Then, although the concept sounds appealing, my foreign language level is elementary .. so you’d think I’d start out reading elementary-level books? No - I started out on Sherlock Holmes. I don’t think this app will really help my foreign language comprehension. ### 1/5 — Buns *2026-08-24, version 1.24.0* It asks for a free trial as soon as you log in and you can’t try it at all. ### 1/5 — False cancellation *2026-08-23, version 1.23.0* I tried this app, and I decided that it was not for me. I canceled this app about a week and a half after downloading it. Did not use it. I canceled before the date and they still charged me and then when I asked for a refund, they said they do not give refund so I suggest you make sure that you like their product before you commit to it because you will not get your money back they lie ### 1/5 — Bad *2026-08-21, version 1.23.0* Really bad ### 1/5 — Charged me during trial period *2026-08-05, version 1.21.0* I am so frustrated. This app charged me during the trial window, I had even cancelled the trial way before it ended. Asked apple for a refund, denied twice. Emailed Eppika’s support line, never responded. Googled if other users experienced this and it said yes, yet this app somehow has great reviews. App is fine, I just wasn’t at the level to enjoy reading yet and thought I would have been. ### 1/5 — Blocks on page 5 *2026-08-04* App keeps prompting me with an offer for lifetime access. On page 5 there is no way past the prompt without getting taken back to page 5. This was a waste of 25€. **Developer response:** That prompt is the free-tier limit, which means the app isn't seeing your payment. It's treating your account as free, stopping you at the preview limit and offering you the discount screen. This is almost always a sign-in mismatch: your subscription sits on the email you paid with, and the app is signed in under a different one. Apple sign-in makes it easy to hit, because it can hide your real address behind a relay address. Sign out, then sign back in using the exact email you paid with, and the block should lift. If it doesn't, email support@eppika.com from that address and I'll link the accounts myself. You paid, and you should be reading. Nick, Eppika ### 1/5 — Terrible app *2026-07-27, version 1.20.0* Terrible app that utilizes AI voice to read AI generated text. They also have a scammy subscription model, I signed up for a free trial however I was still fully charged for the subscription and even when I immediately cancelled, I wasn't refunded. I had to get in touch with Apple and they only offered me a prorated refund for an app that I never used. If you are serious about language learning, there are plenty of other resources out there that are not scammy. ### 1/5 — Far too expensive *2026-07-04* No wonder it’s impossible to find the price mentioned on their website, it’s £81 a year… But, there are subscriptions listed in the pay options 1/2 that price obviously offered probably when you are not gullible. I’m tired of this scalping model of apps, just offer the same & fair price to everyone. I’m not sure why companies do this, it makes me instantly distrust them. I’ve not tried the reading, I’ll stick with the far more reasonable app that’s 1/4 of this price that I’m already using. **Developer response:** Thanks for the honest feedback. To clarify: there's one standard annual price shown at signup, with a 7-day free trial so nothing is charged before you decide. The lower price you saw is a separate loyalty/win-back offer shown later to people who've already tried the app - not a different price for different people up front. Sorry it read as a bait-and-switch; happy to have you try the free trial if you reconsider. - Nick from the Eppika Team ### 1/5 — Refund issue *2026-06-28, version 1.18.3* I signed up for the free trial. I did actually try the app once, but didn’t feel it would be hopeful for me to learn Spanish further. I forgot to cancel so that I wouldn’t be charged $89.99 for the year. That was my mistake, I admit. BUT. When I received an email confirming my purchase for the year at 4:37 pm, I requested a refund as quickly as I could, so quickly (because I was so sure I didn’t want to use the app) that I received a confirmation of that refund request at 4:38 pm. I was denied a refund, so I appealed (including providing all of this info) and was denied again. An an exception, especially when economically times are difficult, would be helpful. Especially given how quickly I requested a refund when I realized my mistake, From what I understand refund denials are Apple’s decision, not the makers of the app itself, but I couldn’t find a place to review Apple, so I’m posting here. Don’t chance using this app if you might not want it. ### 1/5 — Way too many errors *2026-06-24, version 1.18.2* Reading the daily stories during my free trial was enjoyable. But reading my first book in Spanish (a simplified version of a novel, El niño de la bola) was a terrible experience. Characters’ names were all mixed up; key details were left out; and some same sentences were repeated again and again, to the extent that it got really boring. Happy reading. ### 5/5 — Amazing app but… *2026-08-28* I love this app for learning, the stories are great, the options are plentiful, and it has helped my reading comprehension immensely. The only feature I’d wish they’d add is when you click on a verb to translate it, I’d like it if there was the un conjugated form too. That way you could learn new base verbs as well as their forms. Just an idea, hope y’all like it. **Developer response:** Showing the base form of a verb next to the in-context translation is a good idea. I've passed it to the team. My first story was a great and clear read. Onward! I am 81 and it was still fun and clear to me. ### 5/5 — Learning and fun *2026-08-16* I was really surprised how well I understood the stories. I couldn’t understand every word and for those words, I merely had to tap on them and the definition came up as well as a link to hear the word spoken, tapping on the menu, gave a translation for the entire sentence. So far, I’ve read a Grimm fairytale and a story taken from Alice in Wonderland. I’ve read in many places that listening to Spanish text while reading the text is a great learning technique and even better if you say the words along with the reader. This app is designed for all of those things and it’s fun! For now, I must go. Most people find one and not the other. If Alice landed well, the library also has Tom Sawyer, Dracula and The Wizard of Oz, each at three difficulty levels, so you can re-read one a level up when the current one starts feeling easy. My vocabulary and pronunciation have improved as well. I find the app extremely relaxing to use and I look forward to it every day .
