Tap a picture, hear the word. It's that simple to start, and it grows with the user from single words all the way to full sentences. Start the conversation today. ## Version history (last 4 releases) ### 1.9.1 — 2026-08-20 Signing in without a password Children can now sign in by scanning a code from their caregiver's device — no email, no password, nothing to type. If the camera isn't available, the code can still be entered by hand. We also fixed a sign-in that could spin forever instead of telling you what went wrong. Boards built while trying the app are no longer lost Categories you made before signing in now carry over to your new account, instead of being wiped. Tiles can speak a whole phrase A tile that reads "Ball" can now say "I want the ball." It's off by default — a caregiver turns it on for one user, when that user is ready to build phrases. What's on screen never changes; only the audio does. A Notes tab a young person can read Caregivers can now give an older child a read-only view of the notes written about their goals. It shows only notes shared with everyone, and only notes written from the day the setting is switched on. We now charge for AI, and only for AI Building vocabulary from your own photos and from Mulberry symbols is unlimited and free. The limit on how many people can be in a household is gone. AI-generated pictures are still metered — three categories a month on the free plan, and every extra picture inside a category costs nothing. A core board that stays put Core word positions are now locked and tested. A learner reaches for "want" by muscle memory, not by reading it, so those squares shouldn't move — and now they can't. For practitioners and school districts Organization accounts with roster sync, a caseload dashboard, IEP goal progress measured against each goal's own criterion, CSV export, and notes with subjects and replies. ### 1.9.0 — 2026-08-07 Long Improved - Content arrives when you come back to the app. Previously, a category or lesson assigned while epSpeak was in the background only appeared after fully closing and reopening the app. Now simply returning to it is enough. This matters most when the caregiver assigns from another app on the same device, which is exactly the case that used to require a restart. - Assigned lessons appear on their own. Lesson assignment now notifies the device directly, so a new lesson turns up without pulling down to refresh. Fixed - Categories could be removed after a failed sync. If the connection dropped while the app was checking which categories are assigned, the app could treat the silence as "none assigned" and clear the downloaded categories from the device. It now only ever removes a category when the server has actually said so. - Failures to record a category assignment are now reported for diagnosis rather than passing silently. ### 1.8.0 — 2026-07-31 New: Lessons Caregivers and practitioners can now assign guided activities — matching games, word practice, sentence building, and more — right from the app. Progress is tracked automatically, so you can see what's clicking and what needs more support.
