### 5/5 — App Store crashed and ate my long review

*2026-05-11*

Briefly:
* Amazing app, customizability is glorious
* Strongly recommend going online to fish up custom fonts — I find “Return of Ganon” works well for quickly reading text — and public-domain e-books
* Experiment with background and font colors (the classic Blue Screen of Death look works surprisingly well)
* Price somewhat painful
* Hope this app catches on; it’s exactly what I was looking for

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind words and the five stars, and sorry the App Store ate your original review.
It means a lot to hear the customizability is working the way we hoped.
And the Blue Screen of Death theme made us laugh out loud, and of course we are going to try it.
We hear you on the price and are thinking carefully about that.
Once again: thank you and happy reading!

### 5/5 — Fantastic eReader

*2026-04-25*

I have tried and used many different reading apps. This is the best one I have found that syncs to a Calibre library. The level of customization is equal to the great, but abandoned, Marvin app with superior library management. The developer is very responsive. I don’t need the statistics (I turn them off), but if of interest there is a wealth of reading statistics.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the kind words and the thoughtful review, LBrockmueller.
Calibre sync, customization, and library management are core priorities, so it's great to hear they're working well for you.
If anything ever needs improvement, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

### 5/5 — Great app, responsive dev

*2026-04-14*

I really like the app’s approach and how active/responsive the developer is. Will be really interesting in what direction this app will develop over time but the reading experience is already top notch.

**Developer response:** Thank you!
Really glad the reading experience is landing well with you, that's the part we sweat over the most.
Plenty more is coming, and feedback like yours genuinely helps shape where it goes next.

### 5/5 — Excellent et complet

*2026-03-19*

Bonne lecture !

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2026-03-15*

This is really well designed, and so pleasant to use.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much, PhilmI! Design and reading comfort are at the heart of everything we put into justRead, it means a lot to hear it comes through. Happy reading!

### 5/5 — Reading as you want it

*2026-03-14*

This is a very good new entry into the iOS epub reader scene. The first version is an excellent epub reader, and the developers are responsive and actively working on new features.

If you want to configure your reading experience to work just the way you like it, this is the iOS epub reader for you.

**Developer response:** Thank you, pdurrant! Configurability has been a core focus from day one, glad it shows. We're actively working on OPDS and Calibre server integration for April, so there's more to come for power users like yourself.

### 5/5 — Really good epub reader with no sync fee and great library flexibility.

*2026-03-13*

I have been using the app for quite some time in the beta stages and have to say the developer continues to impress. I have over 1000 books across 16 directories and the app presented my directory structure just like I wanted it to. The flexibility in overriding publisher choices and the statistics on my reading make using the app very nice. One of the things I really wanted was the ability to switch libraries if I wanted to, you can easily change libraries and the reloading of the books is remarkably quick. The highlights are good and the syncing without paying a subscription is another plus. I can’t speak highly enough how responsive the developer has been when when reporting an issue, I am really looking forward to items in the roadmap coming. Once text to speech or TTS arrives it’s all over, all the others will be toast. I used to use Yomu for the on device library, this one replaced that, used to use Apple Books for the on all my devices synced with out a fee, this one has replaced that, lookout Readest one feature to go and I’ll no longer need what up until now I would have said would be my ereader forever. Don’t get me wrong, this is a new app, but man for a 1.1 version it looks very promising.

**Developer response:** NRHJohn, this made our day, thank you! Having a beta user with 1000+ books across 16 directories put it through its paces was invaluable, and your feedback genuinely shaped what justRead.app became. TTS is firmly on the roadmap, and when it lands, we'll make sure it's worth the wait. Readest, consider yourself warned. 😄

### 5/5 — Comprehensive iOS app for reading epub books

*2026-03-11*

Finally, an app that both manages a collection of books but acts as a fully functional book reader. I keep my digital books in a Dropbox folder as no storage space on my iPhone. This app can build a library of EPUBs book details, illustrated with their covers and with a tap on a book streams it to you so you can read it and annotate etc. without adding any storage space on your phone. Highly recommended.

**Developer response:** Thank you, Yarrow28! The 'library without storage' use case is exactly why we built cloud streaming the way we did. Your Dropbox collection stays where it is, and justRead just connects to it. Really glad it works the way you hoped. More cloud features coming soon!

### 5/5 — Great ebook reader

*2026-03-11*

This is a really polished and configurable ebook reader. Feels modern and does everything I want.

The developer has been very responsive in fixing some bugs and implementing requested features.

**Developer response:** Thank you, bogo_lode! Staying responsive to bug reports and feature requests is something we genuinely care about, it's the only way to build something that actually does everything you want. Really glad it's showing. More improvements on the way!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 2/5 — Needs Polish and New Name

*2026-04-14*

App seems thrown together, settings menu while reading needs work. And why oh why is “.app” in the name on the home screen.

Maybe one day it’ll be worth the subscription price or $80 lifetime price, but it isn’t right now..

**Developer response:** Hi Steve, thanks for the feedback.

A couple of notes: polish is something other reviewers tend to call out positively, so I'd love to know which screens felt rough, the in-reading settings menu especially. Specifics help us fix things.

The ".app" in the name is intentional, it's part of the product name itself.

### 2/5 — Missing a lot of basic functions

*2026-03-23*

The “search within book” function doesn’t work at all. I can’t use the progress bar to scrub through the book - I have to either turn pages one by one or navigate by chapter. I’m used to being able to just slide my finger over the progress bar to jump to a different region of the book. This is the only ereader I’ve ever used that was missing these two obvious features.

**Developer response:** Hi E.R. Satz, thank you for the honest feedback.
I'm sorry to hear you ran into these issues. Both progress bar scrubbing and in-book search are present in justRead.app, so it sounds like something may not be working as expected on your device. I'd love to get to the bottom of this, could you reach out to me directly at support@justread.app? I'll make sure we sort it out.

### 3/5 — Lots of customizability

*2026-04-22*

Reader: 3/5
Price: 1/5

Overall I like the app. Has a lot of options to make it look how you want. I like the statistics, and the dev is quick to respond to issue you have. But the app doesn’t appear to support pdf which is a deal breaker for me compared to my current app.

But my biggest issue with the app is the price. If the pricing was still the introductory price I’d have less issue with it. But for $25 a year, I just don’t see the benefit of what this offers me over the numerous other epub readers that are one time pay or even other subscription based ereaders like book fusion.

**Developer response:** Hi Jeffrey, thanks for the thoughtful review and for the kind words about the customization and stats!

Great news on the PDF front: PDF support is actively in development and will be landing in one of the next few releases. It's been one of the most requested features in the roadmap, and we're excited to get it into your hands soon.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, it really does shape what we work on next.

### 5/5 — Leider ziemlich gut

*2026-09-08*

Viel Freude beim Lesen!

### 5/5 — Amazing app!

*2026-08-23*

This is a polished, full-featured and stable app with Calibre integration and up-to-date UI. Seems to handle large libraries with ease, no "broken" books (unlike many other apps I have tried), plenty of intuitive, well placed controls. Also has an awesome text-to-speech function with many natural voices available to download.
No spyware or telemetry of any kind - kudos to the developer!
Instant buy for me!

**Developer response:** Hi Joanna and thank you for the review. There is really nothing else to answer, thank a big thank you :-)

### 5/5 — Exceptional app

*2026-08-22*

In my long and often frustrating journey to find the perfect e-reader on iOS I never imagined I would stumble upon such a gem!
Clean, uncluttered modern interface (fully following iOS 26 design guidelines). Plethora of options, some unavailable in any other app are strategically placed throughout the UI, without ever getting in the way, Calibre integration, excellent text-to-speech implementation, etc.
Extra points to the developer for not including telemetry/analytics or other nasties!
Very happy to have found justRead, instant purchase for me.

**Developer response:** Hello Sarassine, thank you very much for the review and I hope future updates will not disapoint you.
The thing I appreciate the most is this part: ’without ever getting in the way’. Thank you for noticing this.
Happy reading, PJ.

### 5/5 — Finally the perfect ebook reader! (almost)

*2026-08-12*

I have been searching for a good ebook reader for over half a year now. I try to use open source when possible so I initially tested Koodo, Readest, and Anx. Unfortunately Readest and Koodo push for cloud which I don’t want to do, and Anx doesn’t support opds. While the other ones do support opds, I don’t like it much because there is little integration between library and client.

I’m not sure what’s so hard about connecting to calibre because none of these do it, which meant my library with these apps is completely disconnected from calibre. When I update metadata in calibre I have to delete and reupload on the client. Reading progress syncing with calibre is also obviously nonexistent.

This app fixes that and it is so refreshing for my client and calibre to actually talk to each other for once.

I do have a couple suggestions. I do wish there was a MacOS app. My favorite thing about Anx, Koodo, and Readest is they are completely cross platform. Android would also be great.

Second is the ability to offload books. My favorite feature of Anx Reader is that it shows you all the books on the WebDAV server, but only the cover images are stored on your device. You can download and offload books without the whole thing disappearing from your library. If this already exists, please let me know how.

Lastly, price 😅. I get that you need to make money, but I think it’s quite steep. Considering Koodo is $5 a year and Anx is less than $10 for lifetime. I would buy the lifetime immediately if it was under 40.

P.S. making this open source would be the most awesomest thing ever!!!

**Developer response:** Hello Joe Bob Ace. Thank you very much for the review and let’s go to answers.
The macOS app is in the roadmap, most voted now, so it will be done.
The ability to offload books is there, but not in the way you described: if you user iCloud folder as a library for books, iOS will offload books automatically (and download when needed), like it does with all files saved in iCloud.
The price was adjusted few times according to talking with the users, so thank you for the feedback on this.
Have a nice day… developers :-)

### 5/5 — Best book app

*2026-07-31*

Seriously this is one of the best apps for books I was able to put all my epubs, pdfs and even audiobooks in here. You have the yearly reading goals, even monthly wraps love it

**Developer response:** Hello octaavis and thank you very much for the review.
Audiobooks and TTS took the longest to get right, so good to hear they're working for you.

### 5/5 — Best Ebook library-reader for ios

*2026-07-17*

hands down, this is the best ebook reader for IOS. I would like the opportunity to import files into the app, and select a folder to import them into, because i keep different genres separated by folders, but importing ebooks puts them in the root library directory.

**Developer response:** Hello Selim, and thank you for the review!
Good news: you can already do this. In the iOS Files app, copy your folder straight into justRead's Library folder (from wherever it currently lives), then use "Pull to refresh" in the Library. All your books will appear.

### 5/5 — Caliber users Rejoice!

*2026-07-16*

An app I’ve been looking for for a long time that allows me a great reading experience in all my devices. But also provides true two-way integration with my Caliber server. Great product that is only going to get better with their commitment to crowd sourcing development goals!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much, donlobo.
Getting the two-way Calibre sync to feel seamless across every device was one of the trickiest things to get right, so it means a lot to hear it's works like we wanted it.
And yes, the crowd-sourced roadmap is exactly what keeps us going.
Keep the votes and ideas coming. Happy reading!

## Most praised reviews (3 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I would love a perpetual license to purchase

*2026-07-01*

I would love to buy a perpetual license, if you ever decide to offer that but I don’t like getting into subscriptions.

**Developer response:** Hello AnimuGirlll, thank you so much for the 5 stars and the feedback.
The good news is that we do offer a one-time / perpetual license from time to time, so it's worth keeping an eye out for when it comes around again. Thanks again for your support!

### 5/5 — Great native reader & library management

*2026-06-15*

I feel like I’ve tried every combination of reader apps, but this one is the first that really nails library management.

It syncs the metadata through iCloud and lets you store your epubs yourself (managed through the files app). Just pick a folder, either local or in iCloud/dropbox etc.

In particular this seems to be the only app that really nails series based grouping in the library for self managed ePubs.

**Developer response:** Thank you charrondev, reviews like this are why I keep building the app :-).
The model of storing your own files in Files while syncing only metadata through iCloud was intentional from the beginning, so it's great to hear someone like it as much as I do. And the same goes for series grouping.
If there's ever anything you'd want to see improved or added, feel free to reach out at justread.app.
Thanks again!
Petr

### 5/5 — Amazing app, unparalleled support.

*2026-06-12*

What a great app. I had been using various apps to some of my ebooks over the years… Kindle app and device, Apple Books, Calibre Sync, Book Fusion, etc and found them all OK, but each lacked key features important to me. “Justread.app” brings most of my requirements together, and the very responsive developer has been quickly implementing changes the community asks for. Give it a try and see if it might be the reader you are looking for. If not, ask about something you are missing and it may be there already, on the roadmap, or a quick implementation away.

**Developer response:** Thank you Rich, this genuinely made my day. Pulling together the pieces that Kindle, Apple Books, Calibre Sync, Book Fusion and the rest each only got partway to, is exactly what I set out to do, so it means a lot to hear it's landing that way for you.

The roadmap really is shaped by readers like you, and I'll keep doing my best to turn good ideas around quickly.
Thank you for taking the time to write this and for encouraging others to give it a try. And as you said, anyone who's missing something should just ask. It may already be there, on the roadmap, or a quick update away.

Happy reading!
