## What is equine FoCUS?

eFoCUS is a free iOS guide covering point of care echocardiography for the evaluation of the horse in an emergency and critical care situation. It covers the equine Focused Cardiac Ultrasound (eFoCUS) 5- step approach. eFoCUS is a tool to identify critically ill horses with cardiac disease, understand underlying pathophysiology, recognize important pathologies, assess the need for immediate therapeutic intervention and trigger further diagnostic evaluation. The App provides ultrasonographic images and videos of the five eFoCUS views including a guide to image acquisition. High quality illustrations with a detailed description of anatomical structures and a list of important pathologies aid the veterinarian, veterinary resident and student in the assessment of cardiac function at the point of care. This App was created based on a study performed by C Eberhardt and C Schwarzwald at Zurich University, Switzerland. The study assessed training requirements to become proficient in performing the eFoCUS examination, including image acquisition, recognition and interpretation of echocardiographic pathologies, and awareness of its scope and limitations.
