Escea should recognise importance on the software and customer experience side of more digital customers, and just what consumers have come to see across other products and expect. I spent $25k on my DS1650, I wish the app matched the product. It crashes unexpectedly, can’t modify schedule via app; can’t set schedules based on weather or temperature, or different days of week. All simple schedules for any other smart home product. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work on mobile data network *2023-06-26, version 1.7* When using the App on Telstra’s mobile network the fire comes up as “unavailable“ more often than not. Extremely unreliable to the point of useless. (Works fine on local wifi network.) I’m not expecting a fix anytime soon based on the time for previous bug fixes. I cannot control my $10k heater the way it was sold to me that it would function. Absolutely terrible - pick up your game Escea. I am a building designer and will NEVER RECOMMEND these heaters based on the archaic lack of support for the technology associated with an otherwise excellent product. ### 1/5 — Timer doesn’t work *2023-05-26, version 1.7* What a ridiculous bad app. It only needs basic functions (turn on/off, set a timer) and it doesn’t even manage both of these. ### 1/5 — Lazy Devs *2023-03-16, version 1.6* Their Devs are extremely lazy when it comes to updating their app it’s been over a year since I could control my fireplace with my phone, I contacted them and they said that the iPhone update affected their app and they are working on it. It’s broken. Repeated request to the Escea help desk for an update on a fix have been ignored. It has a Ethernet connection and if you log into smart heat via web it works fine so clearly issue with the App. This app could be so much better, have schedules etc like most heat pump providers do. Hasn't been updated in 5 years. And while its internet connected, escea can't be bothered to do the minor amount of developer work that would make it possible to control this via Google Home, Apple HomeKit or Amazon Alexa. $10k+ connected fireplace but so poorly executed in terms of the connectivity you have to use the remote most of the time. When it works it does the bare minimum - turn the heater on and off, adjust the temp. Remote access is hit and miss. Often completely unavailable to connect. Not possible to actually set custom times you want the heater to turn on / off. Or you’re at home and the dog is on your lap and you don’t want to get up off the couch. :) It also allows the programmed timers to be set, but I’ve never tried. As the supplied remote control does that easily. I’m perplexed by the poor reviews. The app turns the fire on and off and adjusts the temperature. Sure sometimes it locks up and you have to close and reopen the app. But really, how hard is that! ### 4/5 — Ok *2016-04-19, version 1.2* Works ok. You certainly can remote turn on your fire with the app so long as you sign up for an account. The app lets you set temperature and two timers (on and off) which feels a little restrictive given most apps let you set daily timers Apple alarm clock style. I do find that the app gets stuck on “refreshing” a lot, if it does you need to go back to my fires. Wait three seconds then open again. The app could definitely do with an update, but it does work as intended and is a great feature along with the fire. Will update the review if they update the app ### 3/5 — Like the app but can't refresh *2017-08-08, version 1.3* I like the app - no trouble connecting on same wifi network as fireplace. Positives: easy off, on, fan boost & temperature reset. Once I set the timers, I never use the remote anymore. Negatives: The app doesn't refresh so I need to close out & restart it each time I make a change to fireplace settings. Would be great to be able to use it over 4G. Still the same , cannot login to their server to register the fireplace.
