### 1/5 — Frustrating when a phone call comes through

*2020-01-12, version 2.20*

OK function generally, but very frustrating as when a phone call comes through mid way through dictating, you cannot return to the dictation after the call. The dictation is completely frozen. The only way I have found to reaccess it is to turn the phone off completely! Very frustrating, needs to be fixed as most of us will be dictating on our phones

### 1/5 — Software interface is archaic

*2019-09-27, version 2.20*

EXTREMELY slow to update to support new iOS versions

Minimal support for inbuilt Apple / iOS APIs that would improve usability (TouchID/FaceID).

Ability to remember user state is poor, with application logging out the user seemingly randomly at some times, or after minimal use of another simple app (checking an email on an iPhone XS shouldn’t flood the RAM and boot the emDat client out of memory)

In essence, the application is a lumbering pile of archaic cruft kept in business through the inertia of the institutions that use the dictation backend to this crappy piece of software.

### 1/5 — Unable to use from multiple sites

*2018-08-28, version 2.14*

Very difficult to use if you work from different sites and have more than one account.

### 1/5 — Completely unable to log on

*2018-08-10, version 2.13*

Notice large amount of difficulty with iOS 11. I can’t logon 99% of the time rendering it a massive hinderance in clinics and efficient documentation.

### 1/5 — That’s what developer previews are for!!

*2017-09-26, version 2.6*

Completely broken by OS11. Unable to record rendering it useless. This is why developer previews are released to avoid something being dead in the water. Not waiting for user uproar when a release breaks something.

### 1/5 — No iOS 11 support

*2017-09-25, version 2.6*

Great app, but I am very disappointed that iOS 11 compatibility was not sorted prior to the updates release.

### 1/5 — Poor compatibility

*2017-09-21, version 2.6*

After upgrading to iOS 11 I can’t dictate anymore. It won’t record

### 2/5 — Edit?!?

*2012-01-26, version 1.10*

This app needs the ability to edit letters. Not just view and complete. Otherwise, it is next to useless for me.

### 2/5 — unprofessional-looking, space-wasting

*2011-07-22, version 1.6*

The good: I like being able to do my dictations with my phone or iPad. I like the piecemeal uploading of each file, and the visual feedback that you get when the dictation is done or uploaded.

The bad:

The iPad app layout is poor. There is a ton of wasted space at the bottom of the screen. The slider bar, hold button, "upload" button, and Record and Stop buttons are too close together, resulting in frequent mis-hits. Suggestion: utilize the full screen of the iPad and make LARGE areas of the screen for starting or stopping dictation

The app crashes frequently when moving between days on the schedule.

If using the iPhone AND iPad apps, would be nice if the dictations sync'd between them, so you don't inadvertantly dictate the same patient on both devices.

The ability to use a bluetooth headset with this app would be cool, but likely it's an Apple limitation, not EMDAT's fault.

### 1/5 — pointless

*2011-06-24, version 1.6*

I find this app pointless since I can't find a way to edit my dictations. I don't want to just "complete" them I want to be able to edit them first. Without being able to do this I still need my laptop so there is no point to this app. If I am missing the boat and there is a way to edit, PLEASE LET ME KNOW as I would love to be able to do this.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not great

*2024-12-16*

Still so awful to work with
Crashes frequently so clinic letters can’t be done

### 1/5 — Not great

*2024-11-22*

Still so awful to work with

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2024-03-19, version 3.39*

Terrible / slow to load
The worst

### 1/5 — Stop fiddling

*2022-11-03, version 3.21*

Constantly fiddling with app. Appearance does not equal functionality!!!mjiiiii

### 1/5 — Can’t add names

*2022-03-21, version 3.3*

With the updated app if dictating a letter for someone not in the day list - dictates letter regarding path results or a patient has been added in to fill a cancellation spot - it is impossible to add in the name of the patient. Days lists can then have 4,5 or more dictations labelled as “no patient” and if I want to go back and check a letter has been done for a particular person have to listen to the beginning of each dictation to find the one I am after. HUGELY frustrating. The old version of the app allowed names to be added why is the upgrade A GIANT LEAP BACKWARD? Please fix this problem ASAP or sooner - COVID means lots of cancellations and last minute changes to the diary and not being able to add names means dictation list has more No name files than dictations identified with a patients name. Sadly I can’t give zero stars or negative stars (a black hole review!!)

### 1/5 — Constant log in issue

*2021-11-18, version 2.27*

Asks for user name and password constantly and doesn’t accept them. Have to create new account every time. Not very good app

### 1/5 — Keeps logging out, unable to log in

*2020-12-13, version 2.25*

Wasn’t a good app to begin with, and now unusable

### 1/5 — Totally useless

*2020-10-01, version 2.23*

See above

### 1/5 — Absolute garbage

*2020-09-28, version 2.23*

Stopped working so had to re download and now I can’t log in at all. What a load of rubbish

### 1/5 — New version fail

*2020-09-16, version 2.23*

New version error messages unable to log back in despite downloading the new version and it working initially

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app

*2012-02-11, version 1.11*

Fantastic program! As a cardiologist seeing 25 to 30 patients a day it's great to be able to just dictate into my phone. We have a transcription service that pastes our hp/ap right into our emr shell.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2011-02-10, version 1.5*

This app is awesome in it's simplistic design and practical efficiency. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Ingenious

*2010-07-03, version 0*

Excellent app. Extremely handy. See this being a time saver.

### 4/5 — Needs to preview the whole letter at sign off

*2025-02-26, version 3.57*

This is a good performing piece of software that really hasn’t been developed that much. In order to sign off a letter on this app you only get to see the letter but not who you’re sending it to, their address or a copy to doctors. They should be corrected so the app becomes a one stop shop rather than having to login online.

### 4/5 — It works fine.

*2024-03-28, version 3.40*

Nothing spesh but it works fine for me, can’t understand the hate for it. Means I don’t need to carry a separate dictaphone; works better for me than other recorders I’ve used in the past because editing is integrated. For basic use it is fine; editing is adequate; it gets updated regularly.

### 4/5 — Don't upgrade

*2014-08-27, version 2.4*

V 2.4 has a bug. Wait for next version.

### 4/5 — Version 1.11 iPhone

*2012-04-14, version 1.13*

Latest revision is great (1.13): I can dictate easily from my iPhone; synchronized to our schedule program so a complete list of patients comes up each day, reasonably easy to both edit my dictations on the iPhone and to add our teaching attestation templates.

### 3/5 — Works solidly, but lacking features

*2013-08-23, version 2.3*

Works reliably, but lacks a few extra bells and whistles other dictation apps have, and the interface is quite spartan. Ability to append is useful, but needs ability to insert a new section into a current dictation, ie. to be able to easily scroll back a paragraph, insert a new word or paragraph, and then go back to the end of the dictation to continue on.

### 2/5 — Useless and inconvenient

*2025-01-20, version 3.50*

This app is pretty hopeless. The password update function constantly fails. Always have to type the password manually.
Also it wont let you upload dictations after the first login. You actually have to log out again, re log in and then upload.
Drives me nuts.
After every update things get worse.

### 2/5 — Pretty basic

*2018-07-18, version 2.13*

Pretty basic functionality would benefit from simple upgrades like Touch ID.
