### 3/5 — Complain complain

*2025-05-26, version 4.9.2*

Since load shedding has ended, it has just become a place where the middle class now goes to complain. Kind of like mini Twitter. There’s a plane flying overhead? Bet, there’s going to be a chat about this.

Next - you think you’re going to delete your profile and be done with all that bonus drama? No. The delete your account and data doesn’t work. It prompts you to contact the developer. Which I did, through their bug reporting tool. But now 3 days later, no feedback. Safe to assume my data will forever be linked to these drama queens, and one day when the aliens go through these thousand year records, I’ll be classed with these people asking “why are there planes flying overhead?”

### 2/5 — Usefully terrible

*2025-03-28, version 4.8.0*

Unfortunately few other apps offer this apps functionality. But these guys seriously need a UI/UX designer, the app experience is utterly appalling

### 2/5 — ???

*2025-02-24, version 4.7.2*

1. Where do you explain the difference between the stages?

2. Where can one find a map with affected areas?

### 3/5 — Good app but…..

*2024-07-01, version 4.0.5*

Don’t like the new area specific updates, it not convenient, the previous version allowed me to see what’s happening in the areas around me once off, now we have to add each area to your list and go into each and every surrounding area one at a time to see important happenings, which is very time consuming…please revert back to old version. By having easy access on updates that’s happening in other places and areas surrounding us helps to keep citizens updated about what’s happening in communities around them… if that makes sense…no one has time to go tap on each every suburb when something major is happening….for instance Alberton recently has had a lot of substations exploding and atm bombings but we can’t see the updates because someone’s update only show in Mayberry Park….people in Brackenhurst or albertsdal areas they can’t see it unless the go into Mayberry park area. Please go back to old version this new update is not good…

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2024-03-06, version 3.26.3*

Been using the app for years now. It’s ease of use and up-to-the-minute accuracy is to be commended.
Compared to the rest, it’s the best. By far.

### 5/5 — Excellent App!

*2024-03-06, version 3.26.3*

The load shedding schedules from Eskom need a Mensa degree to understand 😏. This app is always up to date and it’s SO easy to see when the power’s going to be off.

Please, people, they are not responsible for load shedding - don’t shoot the messenger!

### 5/5 — Read what you buy- Not Eskom’s app!

*2024-03-06, version 3.26.3*

Too many people blaming ESP for the wrong information from Eskom, or complaining when Eskom takes over from a municipality it deems, “not compliant” (and usually makes the situation worse instead of better). I hate that we need this app, but I’m grateful that such a great app exists!!

### 5/5 — Relevant

*2024-02-26, version 3.26.3*

Unfortunately so relevant. Shame…

### 5/5 — 👍🏻

*2024-01-23, version 3.25.5*

Does the job

### 5/5 — Simply ESSENTIAL!

*2024-01-10, version 3.25.5*

This app is so easy to use and understand. Thanks 👍🏻

### 5/5 — Failing to plan is planning to fail

*2023-11-20, version 3.23.11*

Helps deal with the stress of power cuts by enabling planning

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2023-10-16*

I love the story of how this started as a side-hustle, but turned into one of the most popular apps in RSA. Since Herman and Dan took it on fulltime, the app has undergone amazing upgrades and updates are now like clockwork. All those 1-star reviews are either from years ago (when it was a helpful side-hustle) or from clearly uninformed users. The app is brilliant and the only “ray of light” in the “dark ages” we find ourselves in here in RSA.

### 4/5 — Great, but needs a sorting function

*2023-09-30, version 3.22.5*

It’s really helpful, essential actually in our current state of the nation. I just wish the “Ask my street” section could be sorted by time-posted. That way I could know what the most recent scenario is instead of having to page through everyone’s thoughts and feelings that they posted whenever they posted.

### 4/5 — App may run faster like Mapimpi but no longer updates

*2023-09-30, version 3.22.5*

Jeff, please make the app compatible for iOSs below V16.0 again. Can’t see a reason for the exclusion, and I really really don’t want to buy the latest iPhone.

### 5/5 — ESP review by Joshua Werksman

*2023-09-15, version 3.22.3*

Exceptional app! Helps a lot with the load shedding. Very handy! Thanks.

### 2/5 — Sorry

*2023-09-13, version 3.22.3*

The only reason it 2 stars cause it’s eskom but does gives me updates

### 5/5 — Always accurate and always up to date

*2023-09-09, version 3.22.3*

This app has been one of the most useful apps I’ve ever had on my phone. It is constantly updated, notifications are always on point and the information it provides is generally never wrong. I highly recommend, it’s saved me countless hours of sitting in the dark with an uncharged phone or laptop. With this app I’m always prepared for load shedding.

The only thing I wish I could change about it would be having it provide the correct area based on your location.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Mixit?

*2025-04-01, version 4.8.0*

App suddenly changed to Mixit. The font is so disappointing (courier!)

### 1/5 — Sexually explicit ads!

*2023-11-12, version 3.23.9*

I received a sexually explicit ad today and I am going to delete the app if this continues. Stop it immediately please

### 1/5 — Inaccurate app

*2023-09-16, version 3.22.3*

This app is so inaccurate and no longer working well. I am even considering deleting the app

### 1/5 — Mrs

*2023-07-18, version 3.21.3*

The times were much easier to read like they previously were. Thank you.

### 1/5 — No time indicator

*2023-07-12, version 3.20.8*

Who’s bright idea was it to take away the time indicator, to place the time as a dolly graph that makes figuring out loadshedding times difficult. Stupid idiot!

### 1/5 — Load shedding

*2023-06-03, version 3.19.2*

Load shedding is so pathetic really. The government got given everything, but one cannot help stupid🙄

### 1/5 — The pride of South Africa

*2023-04-02, version 3.16.12*

This app really demonstrates how far South Africa has come. Having the worlds most popular load shedding app really is a massive achievement.

Being able to keep the population up to date with a public utilities inability to meet the demand for power in a country with bountiful natural resources such as wind and sunlight is clearly a significant achievement.

### 1/5 — Useful app but obstacle course interface.

*2023-03-07, version 3.15.1*

This app is helpful but the user experience is like an obstacle course in my opinion. I offer constructive criticism: The primary information, that is, “when is my area going to be off today?”, should be on the first page. Preferably the whole week ahead. The Eskom “Stages” are practically meaningless to the average consumer. Who cares what the “Stage”is? Two adjacent stages are often identical anyway!? We only need to see when will my area be off. Therefore, why do I have to obstacle course to another page, then hurt my head deciphering the “Stages” to discover anything beyond the “next” off period? I recommend that the app would ascend a level if it provided the day’s off periods on the opening page.

### 1/5 — Was great, now greedy

*2022-08-06, version 3.10.5*

This app was amazing, but is now the worst app I’ve purchased in any category due to the ethics in the developers approach.

I believe in paying for apps to both support developers and get new features, so was happy to pay for this one to support it and remove ads

However, the misleading advertising of the paid options gave the impression that purchasing the more expensive of the paid options (hundreds of Rands) would remove ads indefinitely vs 12 months. After paying I learned all options expire after 12 months. I asked for a refund, no response.

Even the paid app tries to sell you stuff on the home screen (I do not want to buy load shedding socks every time I look at the app)

Now after only a few months I have full ads back on the home Screen!!! This is exactly what i paid to remove. Paying for a service that is not rendered is against the law in South Africa.

Don’t waste your money or time on these guys.
I’ve uninstalled & moved to LoadShedding Notifier.

Its easy to read, much cheaper and ethical in its licensing approach.

Oh and ZERO ads on the paid version.

### 1/5 — Great, unofficial app to get load shedding alerts

*2022-07-02, version 3.9.1*

⚠️💡This app was made by an independent, private developer who stepped in when Eskom would not come through with an official app and only publish loadshedding schedules as completely unreadable screenshots on Twitter. This app is awesome. If you want to complain that load shedding is terrible, tell that to Eskom. If you feel personally violated because some features is missing, tell Eskom to make their own app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Helpful

*2025-05-17, version 4.9.1*

Keeps me informed of possible issues in my area

### 5/5 — Dumb ahh country

*2025-03-17, version 4.8.0*

Can’t believe you need an app to tell you when your powers gonna be off y’all let’s start a revolution against the ANC they can’t stop ruining this country “apartheid 2025”????

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2025-02-05, version 4.6.8*

Amazing App

### 5/5 — Loadshedding

*2024-07-20, version 4.1.1*

This free App was not only a sanity saver but also helped the economy of the country as businesses could plan ahead to minimize disruption.

### 5/5 — Genaue Load Shedding Information

*2024-03-12, version 3.27.3*

Diese App hat und während unseres Urlaubs in Südafrika sehr geholfen. Übersichtlich und leicht bedienbar.

### 5/5 — Essential

*2024-03-06, version 3.26.3*

I find it really funny that people apparently take their shedding-rage out on this app and its creators; down rating it and vloeking in the comments as if the lack-of-power-that- be at ESKOM are somehow going to sense the general ire. As always with us dear old homo sapiens; no good deed goes unpunished.

If you want to even make a start in understanding the bureaucratic cluster-eff that is national loadshedding playing out across our miserable land, then you need this app. That’s it really. Or try work it out using the municipal tables. Go on… I dare you.

### 5/5 — Accurate

*2024-03-06*

You guys do tend to get the brunt of the complaints cause of load shedding but you don’t flip the switch . Your job to inform and that’s exactly what this app does . It’s accurate and informative . Living in another country that going through load shedding we don’t have this luxury . It’s a mystery as to when and where and how long .
So cut these developers some slack they aren’t responsible
So well done ESP for keeping South Africa in the know

### 5/5 — Works for me

*2024-03-06, version 3.26.3*

In the good old days had no idea when load shedding was due - now I do 👌

### 5/5 — Absolutely Excellent App

*2024-03-06, version 3.26.3*

If there were more stars I would have given them. Excellent app, easy to use and constantly updated. It is not an easy task to track Escom loadshedding and the team are doing a great job keeping up with the lords of darkness - Welk done team. Love your app. Take care

### 5/5 — Super useful app.

*2024-03-06, version 3.26.3*

Thanks a lot!
