L'espirometria, es la prova bàsica per al maneig en atenció primària (AP) del pacient amb patologia respiratòria obstructiva.
 
ESPIRO interpreta els resultats de l’espirometria i es basa en la comparació dels valors que aporten més informació (el FEV1, la FVC i la seva relació percentual) amb els  teòrics per a cada pacient segons les seves dades antropomètriques.
 
ESPIRO  segueix l’algoritme de decisió recomanat per les societats científiques.
 
ESPIRO ofereix una interpretació que pot ser d'ajuda per al professional no familiaritzat amb la prova o bé confirmar la sospita clínica del més expert.
