### 4/5 — Excellent App

*2016-07-30, version 5.0.1*

I find this app very informative and well organized. The advices and lessons given there are not only good for essays but writing in general including blogging (in my case).

I just wish it had much better interface and felt more native to iOS platform.

### 4/5 — A good reference, but a poor guide.

*2015-06-24, version 3.0.0*

“Essay Writing Guide,” is developed by the same group who published the app “Lit Analysis 2.” The app’s purpose would seem to be a writing guide for how to create an essay, but it ultimately performs as a reference guide for essay writing terms. Like the literature analysis app, this app contains definitions and examples for the many terms and elements of writing an essay. The few changes in format include “Do”s and “Do not”s for each term, instead of the “Questions to ask” of the previous app, which are generally basic bullet point lists of advice for the user in regards how to best use or excel at the term.

The content of the app is generally good in quality, and comprehensive in the quantity of material it covers, but it acts as a simple reference guide, when the title would seems to suggest that it will guide a writer through the steps of writing an essay, which it does not adequately address. The design and layout of the content is presented identically to the way the material of “Lit Analysis 2” is presented, but where the circular wheel layout of that app works well for the sort of content it provides, it doesn’t work as well for this app. Any user would be forgiven their assumption that the app would be structured to guide them through the process of writing an essay. While this would be an annoyance in a free app, it becomes much worse when you consider that this app must be purchased at the time of this writing.

This app suffers from the same dull and lifeless graphical presentation of “Lit Analysis 2,” made worse by the fact that it would appear to be a rather lazy recreation of that style with little concern to its effectiveness for the material.

Despite all of that, I could easily see this app being used by a writer who already knows the basics of essay writing to improve his skills, or by a teacher who merely wants a concentrated reference tool for essay writing terms. It could be seen as just a few steps above a dictionary, but the quality of the advice and the examples can make a few bucks worth it. I give this app three and a half stars.

### 3/5 — Insightful

*2015-05-12, version 3.0.0*

For some one looking for a clear and helpful way to get started or brush up. This app is truly a blessing.

### 4/5 — Helpful

*2013-09-21*

This has been a helpful tool, I don't remember everything I have read on it so I do like to go back and check before I write a new essay for Uni

### 4/5 — Educator

*2013-09-09, version 2.0.1*

Too advanced for high school. Perhaps a good resource for reflection of what we instruct?

### 3/5 — Outstanding Content, Unacceptable Presentation

*2013-02-18*

This app packs a wealth of information with regards to essay-writing; its structure, content and style. The guide part itself is very well-written. The advice offered is very elaborate and I believe that the guide sufficiently covers the most things that are relevant to the task. Thus I would say that the content of the app easily justifies its price.

That aside, the app itself is subpar (and this is an understatement). The „wheels navigation“ is an awkward, superfluous gimmick hurting the clarity and the structure of the guide a lot. However, it is not the gui, but the presentation that is the major issue here: the colours and the fonts, and, most importantly, the page layout is absolutely unacceptable. Punishingly bad. The presentation does not render the guide completely unusable, but it certainly does its best to.

### 4/5 — Comprehensive guide

*2012-10-24*

As a teacher, I've found that this is a particularly useful resource. Great examples and lots of technical details.

Only suggestion is that the layout is, at times, confusing.

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2012-09-08, version 1.8*

This app doesn't have anything worth a penny. All it does is give you definitions. Download a dictionary, it's better!

### 3/5 — Good app

*2012-05-28*

Many good tips but the different wheels (see pic) make you jump around.

Authors obsession with climate change result in several poor examples

There should be more hyperlinks so you can jump around the tips

### 1/5 — DO NOT WAST YOUR MONEY

*2012-01-25, version 1.3*

Wast of money. Stupid info you can google all of this. Not worth 3$

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No screen flip

*2018-10-14, version 5.0.1*

I purchased this to be used with my iPad Pro and associated keyboard. It says it’s for iPads, but the screen will not flip. Therefore, I can’t use it unless I get another keyboard. What an oversight.

*2017-04-08*

### 1/5 — Of little help

*2015-03-10, version 3.0.0*

A waste of money and time. It is difficult to navigate and provides no new information. It is similar to a dictionary of essay terms. Very disappointing!

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2013-11-07, version 2.0.1*

I was so excited to download this app, but I regretted it afterwards. It seems much like a copy-paste text from some website. There are some mistakes inside too. It is far too expensive for what is offers. I don't recommend it. I'm sorry, but I'm so disappointed.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2013-08-30, version 2.0.1*

:(

### 1/5 — Why

*2013-01-28*

Why does anyone want this rubbish. Basic and poor information. Information we learn at school. Needs seriously expanding to make it worth 69p how can you justify any more.

### 1/5 — Not at all what I thought it was

*2012-10-14*

This is a lengthy book put into iPad format. Wasted my money on this app. It is a book that explains all the parts of an essay. It doesn't really help you structure your work like I thought it would.
