The CarPlay display is gorgeous! But the in app displays are even better. There is now logging and exporting to CSVs, this app is deep and well designed. 100% worth buying if you own an Ioniq or Kia EV. **Developer response:** Hi Cheule, thank you for the kind review despite running into that difficulty with onboarding. I'm exploring what I can do on my side to make that a smoother onboarding experience for people who use more than one OBD-II app. One tip: Make sure you don't have another OBD-II app running along with IONIQ 5 Companion at the same time. This can lead to a degraded experience for all of the running apps. Sometimes when apps are in the background you can lose track of the fact they are talking with the adapter. I'm adding a diagnostic check to help people identify when other OBD-II apps are communicating with the adapter at the same time. Thanks again! ### 5/5 — Fantastic App *2026-06-24* Finally a CarPlay app with rich telemetry data laid out in a nice way. Don’t be fooled by the app name. Works great with my MY23 Kia EV6 GT and gives me the technical info right where I want it. Thanks again! ### 5/5 — A Must Have for Stats Nerds *2026-06-18* 2025 Ioniq 5 SEL As advertised, this app gives you all the crunchy details the car hides by default. Very cool to see exactly how the car performs while driving and charging, and the history feature is really nice as well. MyHyundai only saves stats for the last 4 drives, but this app has no such limit. It’s also nice to see specific details for my ICCU unit, and high voltage cell deltas to assess any issues. I had the headlight control switch set to Off, the CarPlay screen showed the headlights as dipped. If I put the switch to auto the indicator showed the headlights as normal, dipped and main beam. When the switch was set to off the display stayed on dipped. **Developer response:** Hello! Thank you for the review! I believe you may have encountered a bug that was found after the Version 2.0 release. The headlight chip should track the actual state of the headlights. This issue will be fixed in Version 2.1 - which will be out any day (and may be out by the time you read this). Hello again -- just a quick update that Version 2.1 is now available in the App Store with this issue fixed. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t stay connected *2026-06-09* Update: I thought I’d figured it out, it worked for the rest of the drive, but in the morning when I went to drive again it was again disconnecting. I turned off background refresh on ABRP and rebooted, still no luck. It would connect and within a minute inform me my car was off and the app was connected to the dongle. No data was displayed. Even repeating the steps that previously worked has not resolved the issue this time around. At this point I’m writing the app off as a waste of money and uninstalling it. Original Post: I have a 2025 Kia EV6 GTL and saw this app was compatible. I tend to listen to the Ioniq Guy and decided to purchase this app. I have an IPhone and have both ABRP and Car Scanner Pro installed. I verified that neither app was running and installed this app. I then plugged in my Veepeak OBDCheck BLE + plus dongle. Started the app and attempted to connect. No luck. Unplugged and replugged in the dongle, no luck. I turned off the app and turned it back on, it connected for maybe 15 seconds, just long enough to see it was scanning and then the data cleared and it told me the car was off but that I was still connected. The car was running at the time and in Ready. I again verified the other two apps weren’t running in the background and that the dongle wasn’t connected and again tried to reconnect. No luck. I then turned off Bluetooth on my phone and turned it back on again. It connected and this time I saw the dashboard on both my iPhone and the car’s display. 15 seconds later it informed me the car was off but that I was still connected to the dongle. The quiet diagnostic said another app was using the dongle. Again, nothing was running on the iPhone or CarPlay. At this point the only thing that made sense was that either car scanner or ABRP had something pinging the dongle even when the app was shutdown. I went ahead and rebooted my iPhone and now the app immediately connected and brought up the dashboard on both my iPhone and the car’s display. Only suggestion would be to have the phone rebooted before doing the install and setup. Or maybe scan the iPhone and force shutdown those apps within the settings. Other than that the app itself seems to be providing the information a geek like me likes to see. I’ll have to see what happens next time I use ABRP or Car Scanner, but I now know how to work around them hijacking the signal. ### 2/5 — Doesn’t work with Ioniq 6 2026 *2026-08-07* The app seems to be fine and would give me what I wanted, if just it would work completely with the new Ioniq 6. Some essential parts (such as the 12 V data) are missing. I guess it needs to be updated for this model. **Developer response:** Hello TD Drive - I am very sorry for your inconvenience! The app is intended to be fully compatible with the 2026 IONIQ 6. The beta test pool has a large number of IONIQ 6 owners from all over the world, but apparently there is a gap in coverage. (link: https://www.theburl.com/ioniq-app/support) ### 2/5 — Great when working *2026-07-10* I’m keeping my eye out for bug fixes. I have really high hopes for this app, but in its current state it’s too unstable. There is an issue that causes CarPlay to completely stop functioning correctly - and not just for this app - all apps. No navigation, no music, nothing. It didn’t affect me until the moment I was about to drive off on a roadtrip. When I restarted my phone I even needed to authenticate my apple account again. I thought the restart fixed everything, but I happened again three more times over the next two days. Finally I deleted this app completely and things are back to normal. I’ve seen others have this issue too and that the developer is aware and working on it, so again, I have high hopes this app will be great with time. **Developer response:** Hi theMITIGATOR: Thank you for the feedback, and I apologize for your inconvenience. For those reading, this is a known issue that is being addressed: after long periods of sustained activity (long drives, or frequent drives), a core iOS component known as CarPlayTemplateUIHost can get into a bad state. When this happens, the information on the CarPlay screen is replaced by default musical note icons -- hence the name "the music notes bug". Normal operation is restored by rebooting your iPhone which restarts CarPlayTemplateUIHost. I am working on a permanent fix for this bug which will appear in the next version. The issue is being tracked on the support site (issue #33). If you tag yourself on that ticket, you will be notified as progress is made. If you would like to test out a beta version sooner, please send me an email (address on the support site) and I would be glad to add you to the beta test pool. ### 3/5 — Hard to read *2026-07-05* Overall I love the concept of this app. The information is fantastic. It provides far greater insight into what’s happening with your vehicle than the standard displays. The only issue I have is with the car play display. If you use a spot screen to display other information, like the radio station, then the information icons for this app become too small to read. It’s just easier to read the phone. Unfortunately on the phone you need to scroll to get the pertinent information. There’s far mor information available on the phone but the key stats are not collected together like they are on the CarPlay display. It was clearly designed to display without the split screen but it’s a common setup so I’m disappointed there isn’t an easy work around, like eliminating one or 2 icons to get them to fit on the screen in the larger format. **Developer response:** Hi Dr2008 - Thank you for the constructive feedback. I was also never fully satisfied with split screen. This has been completely revamped in Version 3.0 - including the ability to customize the tiles. Split screen shows a smaller subset of tiles, making them much more legible. Version 3.0 is close to launch, and will be a free upgrade. (link: https://www.theburl.com/ioniq-app/support) ### 3/5 — Be Aware - this needs a Bluetooth ELM327-compliant OBDII Scanner *2026-06-21, version 2.1* My old OBDII scanner was WiFi only, so it was not usable with this app. Be sure to read the developer’s helpful instructions carefully to ensure compatibility with your equipment. ### 3/5 — Be Aware - this needs an ELM327-compliant OBDII Scanner *2026-06-15* I missed the sentence in the app description that mentions an ELM327-compliant OBDII scanner. It turns out my OBDII scanner is not ELM327-compliant, so I either have to purchase a new OBDII scanner or I’m SOL😏. I’d recommend the developer give greater prominence to the ELM327 requirement in the description. That might have caught my attention so that I could have avoided the mistaken purchase. ### 3/5 — A lot of potential *2026-06-05* A specific app for Ioniq models is a good idea and has a lot of potential. The app itself needs some work though. Wrong values are displayed rather than corrected/filtered out (e. g. a cell delta voltage of 4000mV). Unavailable values (e. g. SoC prior to starting the car) remain unavailable even after they could be fetched. In contrast to all other CarPlay apps I use, the UI does not scale to the available screen size leaving a lot of space unused. **Developer response:** I would like the opportunity to support you, in order to understand the issue with the cell delta voltage you are observing. Issues like that have historically been caused by data mapping issues, such as using the app with an E-GMP vehicle that is not yet fully supported. In CarPlay, the issue with the icons not filling the screen, is the result of a particular third party wireless CarPlay adapter altering the reported display details to the iPhone - a unique quirk of this particular third party adapter - other adapters faithfully report the screen and the experience is as intended. I have not ruled out the possibility of compensating for this adapter, but at the moment this is an isolated report. ### 4/5 — Nice app but nonsense rpm *2026-06-29* Further to the below the developer clarified that rpm refers to motor rpm not wheel. My mistake, thanks for clarifying: My ioniq5 displays circa 6000rpm at 50mph, it has a wheel diameter of 28”. The rpm is wrong. 6000rpm would be 8.33 miles per minute or 500mph! So a factor of 10 out. Or is this intensional, or my math wrong? **Developer response:** Hello jwDaveR! Thanks for the careful math — you're right that 6,000 wheel RPM would be about 500 mph. The gauge shows motor RPM, not wheel RPM. The IONIQ 5 has a single-speed reduction gear of roughly 10.65:1 between the motor and the wheels, so at 50 mph your wheels turn about 600 rpm and the motor turns about 6,400 rpm — which is exactly what you saw. The reading is correct; in the iPhone app, they are labeled "Motor (rpm)" on the gauge to distinguish it from road speed, but in CarPlay I try to keep everything cleaner and simpler (glanceable) -- I'll think about changing this to avoid this sort of confusion in the future. ### 4/5 — Looks to be useful *2026-06-19* I’ve gone 4 stars as it’s not perfect but initial thoughts are good. The power meter display I’ve got set to BHP but it’s quite a slow response time. Is there a way of increasing the refresh rate? Also for future, any chance of a track page with just track/performance relevant info? IONIQ 5 Companion divides up the available bandwidth with the OBD-II adapter into polling slots. It is designed to work reliably across a wide array of generic OBD-II adapters, a wide range of vehicles, and varying environmental conditions (lots of BLE traffic). I would also like a faster refresh rate -- real-time would be fantastic! I have heard from a few enthusiasts who would like a track page with performance data, and I have added that in the feature roadmap. If you own an EV6, this app gives you access to all your vehicle's information (battery status, etc.). It also allows you to look up error codes. Plus, you can easily email the app's creator, Greg, who helped me choose the right OBDII adapter. He’s really friendly and responds very quickly! ### 5/5 — Inside the Ioniq5 *2026-07-24* Had the product for a few days now, still finding my way around all the information available. The onscreen displays give plenty of information that is not available or very hard to find on Ioniq’s various screens. Brilliant app that is well worth the price, I did try a cheap ODB but it didn’t work so went for the Verpeak and everything connected automatically.
