### 1/5 — Can’t find server. Infrastructure poor too.

*2022-04-08*

Suddenly last week the charger didn’t want contactless payment. Now the app can’t find its server and I’m unable to charge my car.

Poor service, poor app (for it no longer functions).

### 1/5 — Fix the update!!

*2021-12-28*

Hasn’t worked since it was updated. It worked well without issue before please sort it out

### 1/5 — Can’t open app, keeps crashing, iPhone user

*2021-12-18*

Makes it very difficult to find chargers not in use

### 1/5 — Not what it says it is

*2019-08-10*

ESB say that this allows you to pay as you charge at their charge points but that’s not true. What this App does when you set it up is charge you £20 which you can then use at their chargers- not the same thing at all in my view and not in keeping with the spirit of the appropriate legislation.
I’m happy to have a multitude of Apps just not dozens of apps that all owe me £20

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Avoid/ don't use

*2026-10-17*

Charges you €20 to sign up then doesn't even seem to know where their own chargers are.

### 1/5 — Can’t access my account

*2026-08-21*

Attempted to login to the app for the first time in a while. My account is “suspended” whatever that means. No onscreen help whatsoever. In ‘guest mode’ no chargers are shown on the map. Are these people still in business?

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-12-30*

Why call your app EV Plug In when your company and logo (advertised on all your charging points) is ESB Energy? Along with the 50 other apps needed to have an EV in the UK, I can never find the right one, so please change the name to ESB Energy so that it matches the branding on your charging points.

### 1/5 — Don’t be fooled by the prices pictured!

*2025-12-18*

When I previewed the app, before downloading it, there is a picture showing £0.30 / kWh, those same chargers are actually £0.68 / kWh. Think I’ll stick to the other major network where I pay £0.26 with a low subscription!!

### 1/5 — Terrible company to deal with

*2025-05-24*

Customer service team are full of back chat, I’ve had problems starting a charge every time I’ve used their chargers and it’s not cheap either. How can such a terrible company get away with charging premium rates?

There are so many better companies to spend your money with, please think wisely before having to deal with this company.

### 1/5 — This is GB only

*2025-03-26*

Unfortunately this app doesn’t make clear that it only covers charging points on the island of Britain. ESB also has another app for NI/ Ireland chargers

### 1/5 — App is Rubbish

*2025-01-18*

Tried signing up. 3 times I tried to include payment method and the app froze. Worst part is it it won’t let you sign up till you pay, so every time I had to begin the sign up process again. Ended up leaving as I couldn’t sign up so couldn’t charge.

### 1/5 — EV PLUG IN APP

*2024-11-20*

I downloaded the app for use on 3 visits a year I make to Ireland. The registration procedure is misleading and hard to understand. On registration £20 was taken out from my linked account and then
£4.99 taken from that figure. I thought this amount was for a card I ordered and linked to my Bank Account. It was not! It was for a monthly subscription. On looking through the app no Chargers were shown which made the app pointless. I reported this to Customer Relations and to their credit they refunded the full amount and my account was closed.

### 1/5 — Badly designed and misleading

*2023-01-07*

Painful design - suggests pay as you go available but then forces a £10 payment up front before you even know if you will be able to get on the charger. All other networks will at least allow you to set up an account in advance. Instead you have to enter all details when you get to charger as a guest.

### 1/5 — Beware hidden fees

*2022-11-19*

I just used this service for the first time and with no warning, either in the app on the charge station, I was charged £8 for being in the bay for 1h 5m.
I was charging my car to 80% and had no idea that I could only remain for 60 mins without a penalty. What a rip off. I spoke to their customer services who said it’s in the Ts&Cs … which basically means it’s hidden in a load of long winded legal wording as opposed to being upfront about it. So angry!

## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best EV charge provider

*2021-06-12*

I am extremely pleased with service provided to EV car owners by ESB energy. Your app is super handy, and your fees on charges is good value for money compared to the BP plus. Moreover, no subscription fee is required. Huge shout out to your customer service team, the level of professionalism of your advisor is second to none! ;)

### 5/5 — Great app

*2020-02-19*

Works with a bit of customer care help call them

### 5/5 — Easy as pie

*2019-04-19*

Well with help from customer service I was informed on how to use it. It’s an easy process and effective. Lady from customer service was very nice - I do recommend. ( I saw 1 star and thought oh no but it was only 1 review... last review left on here is a bit unfair in my opinion)
I do recommend !!

### 4/5 — Charge cheap

*2022-10-14*

For a full charge it always take two hours or 1 and a half hours . however, the apps sometimes let you know it’s vacant, but when you reach there somebody else is on the machine. It need to be faster with updating who is on the charging point.

### 4/5 — Mr ABDI

*2021-09-23*

It’s good service but more supply needed charger points always queuing up to get charched

Thanks

### 3/5 — Title suggestion

*2025-11-08*

You should consider putting ESB in your app name, it’s always difficult to find you app as it’s called something generic
