The app has good quality content and is cheap you pay as you go, 3.99 per video. Some of it’s features either are not accurate or just do not work. Some features are “coming soon” but has been like that for years now . However to be realistic this should be used to supplement you in voice therapy or personal voice therapy But other than that the videos are good and can help you in your journey ### 2/5 — Lessons not showing *2021-02-06, version 3.0.6* Hi so stared one lesson and later went back and now no matter how many times I restart the app they don’t show up ### 3/5 — App itself is meh, but progress for the community. *2020-12-19, version 3.0.6* The content itself is great. The price for the content is fine, but the app quality leaves a lot to be desired, especially given how infrequently it is updated. UI is pretty crap, controls are clunky, scrubbing only occasionally works, no way to calibrate microphone, and the resonance analyzer is not yet released (with no info about progress/potential release date). If everything worked and all tools were available then I could justify the price. Until then it’s free YouTube tutorials and zoom voice lessons for me. ### 2/5 — Please fix the UI *2020-06-23, version 2.3.6* I can't even play or pause most videos because the overlay overlaps on the videos. Otherwise a great app please keep up the good work! ### 2/5 — No headphones, no go. *2020-01-27, version 2.3.5* Putting aside the expensive in-app purchases (would be nice to have a deal for buying multiple lessons), the fact that you are limited to using the phone speaker is crazy. Sometimes I would just like to listen to a lesson on the bus or follow along with the car stereo. I’d buy a lesson or two if the headphone/Bluetooth issue was fixed. But it hard for me to try to watch the videos because the app doesn’t work with headphones and I can only practice when my family aren’t home ### 4/5 — Really good but... *2018-10-11, version 2.3.5* Okay, before I start I want to say that this app has really helped me with my dysphoria but there is one issue. It’s not very good for closeted people because the sound cannot be played through headphones. This NEEDS to be fixed. I can’t watch the videos without soundproofing my room. ### 2/5 — You’re Better Off Blindly Google Searching for Feminizing Vocal Training Videos *2018-02-12, version 2.3.5* The potential value of an app for vocal training is that you can get immediate feedback, and learn quicker by having a method more engaging than simple watching or reading about something. This app has done neither of those things better than -written- guides I have seen, and that’s a low bar for feedback and engagement. The only tool available without lesson purchases only tells you your pitch, with minimal context. As the other tools, i.e. the app’s baseline functionality, are gated behind overpriced microtransactions, anyone who has the money just to make the app functional could buy a full course of vocal training videos for something like $20 online. This app mainly boils down to tools that require self-judgement (low feedback), and overpriced video clips. The tools -may- be worth buying just the associated lessons to access, but for a similar price you could also have bought more complete, reasonably-priced vocal videos online. And, honestly, similar tools probably exist for free if your PC has a microphone. I assume the prices are a result of how niche the market is— we’re not exactly a huge demographic, so the cynic in me would say it’s poor business to try and market -anything- to other trans people— there’s just not going to be enough potential buyers to recoup production costs. The app is not an outright scam, as others have stated, but I think fair pricing was non-viable from the outset, and I saw no claims that it was intended as a work of charity. Tl;dr: I learned more from free videos, text guides, and forums. Maybe try the tools, but I just can’t recommend buying that many $5 video clips. ### 4/5 — It had malfunctions but she tries to fixed them *2017-09-24, version 2.3.5* The truth is ive been misjudgeding this app because im transgender and going through emotional changes; just like any other puberty. Well the microphone stopped working but then she updated the app to fix the issue. She is an honest lady and i trust her lessons. Its the same price i pay for in person lessons. It helps, she has a lot of experience ### 2/5 — Fleecing the pockets of a marginalized population. *2017-08-27, version 2.3.5* The fact that lessons are five dollars a piece makes the first round of lessons 75 dollars. Must be really nice to oppress your own community like this and make an app totally unaccessible for other trans women. The amount of typos alone make me question whether I want to purchase more lessons. I won't help this app prey on my community. ### 4/5 — Great with one major flaw... *2017-01-27, version 2.3.2* So the lessons are really top notch, and your can go over and over each one as you build your competency. Compared to in-person voice training, this is a steal. HOWEVER, there is something I find totally bizarre—the app has no support for Bluetooth! So if you, like me, want to practice in the car on your commute, or listen through a headset so that you don't have to hold your phone pointed at your ear, tough tamales. This is the biggest flaw in the app imho. PLEASE FIX! ### 3/5 — Cost Prohibitive *2016-12-18, version 2.3.2* While a fiver per lesson doesn't seem like much it is after spending a few hundred a month for other related expenses. The videos seem helpful but without the rest of the app functionality I’d avoid it, and I’ll be pursuing a refund. ### 1/5 — App is Inaccessible *2021-03-11, version 3.0.6* This app does not work with VoiceOver (Apple’s built-in screen-reader) so those of us who are blind or visually impaired can’t use it. You have to buy immediately. ### 1/5 — NOT WORTH IT...! *2020-09-12, version 2.3.6* I feel that apps like this targeted to help and support the dysphoria of transgender people who want to train their voice for whatever desired reason... SHOULD NOT! HAVE A PRICE! When I heard about Eva I was so excited and looked into it immediately! Your own app on your own Mobile device designed to train your voice sounded beautiful until I opened the app to see... $$$... I totally understand that people, Inventors would wanna make money off an application they built and designed. However an app designed and targeted for gender dysphoric people that has a cost.. does not sit well with me in my opinion! ### 1/5 — FIX THE BLUETOOTH *2020-07-19, version 2.3.6* I would love to keep using this app because I need some help to I can feminizes more my voice and almost all my day it’s driving but not been available to I can I used my Bluetooth i can barely heard so disappointing and my Dr recommend me this app but it’s not helpful for me just because I can’t used on my Bluetooth ### 1/5 — Doesn’t restore to new phone *2018-08-28, version 2.3.5* I’ve met KathyP and taken her live training class and used her earlier products so I was excited to see a more professional app from her. The app seemed pretty good to me and not too expensive. However, a month or two after buying the first few lessons I got a new phone and the “restore purchases” selection says there’s nothing to restore. I emailed the developer for help and got no help at all and then they just stopped responding. ### 1/5 — Lesson 4 and 10 Blick all other downloads on iPhone X *2018-06-17, version 2.3.5* If you get lessons 4 or 10 they prevent other lessons from down loading as they are in a infinite down load state despite message that download was completed ### 1/5 — Most features only available with purchase *2018-05-03, version 2.3.5* Can’t record my own voice without paying for a lesson. If I could at least record my voice I’d use this app enough to purchase lessons, but since I can’t I’ll just delete it. It’s not worth it if I can’t at the very least try it out before spending my money. ### 1/5 — Upsetting *2017-11-29, version 2.3.5* While paying $5 for each video is a bit much for what you get, what’s even worse is that when I got a new phone the restore previous purchases button in the settings didn’t work so I’m out $75 and I’m not sure whether or not to shell out another $75 for lessons I already own. ### 1/5 — Very buggy *2016-11-19, version 2.3.1* I bought a lesson thinking this would be a great thing to try. However, when I am using headphones, the kind that physically plug into the iPhone, the app plays sound straight through the speaker instead of the headphones. This makes the app impossible to use when my roommates are home, which is all the time, and impossible to use on my commute via subway either. I emailed the developers and asked them to fix it last week and did not get any response, so I'm leaving this review to see if it gets their attention. **Developer response:** Hi Archkittens, we have since updated the app to address these issues. Could you try updating it and see if the issue is resolved? ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Highly recommend *2023-09-02* I guess we have been so conditioned by the ad-supported model that we aren’t willing to pay for something useful. I’ve been guilty of it myself. Yet I paid a voice professional $100 for an hour of instruction in gender-affirming vocal work, only to have her tell me that I was far advanced of the trans women she usually coaches. I should point out that I was a university professor for many years and had a radio program for some of that time, so I was experienced in working with my voice. If you don’t have the benefit of that kind of experience, and want to develop a more feminine voice without paying a lot, this app is the way to go. First of all, for free you get several tools for analyzing pitch, etc. The courses may not be the most in depth, but for the price they can’t be beat, assuming you are new to voice work. Or you could spend hours searching videos online to find some that work for you. What’s your time worth? ### 5/5 — Amazing app! *2022-02-02, version 3.0.9* Each of the exercises are so well done, step by step, with tools that really help you to cater to all the various aspects of your voice. She walks you through every step of all the layers of speaking that we take for granted everyday when speaking. That is until you want to make a convincing change. So many layers to be mindful of to your include thought process/meta cognition, breathing, posture… and she slowly guides you through at your pace! Thank you so much! Your app makes changing your voice possible. 🥰 ### 5/5 — Worth the money, but please fix the Bluetooth if you want to get a better reviews.... *2021-01-06, version 3.0.6* I do think these are quality lessons I don’t get why people are crying it’s far cheaper then an actual voice therapy. Looking forward to the content in Beyond the fundamentals. ### 5/5 — Very educational and useful *2018-07-21, version 2.3.5* Before I review I just wanted to say that it is very upsetting to read these negative reviews and the platform has nothing to do with how well the app works, but rather how the app is designed to take advantage of trans people. It is sickening. This app is designed to help trans people and I am thrilled to see such an app made. Transitioning isn’t cheap, but I like that there are more affordable and accessible options popping up and supporting those who put in the effort to support us is only going to bloom into more option. Ok, stepping off the soap box. Now for my review of the app. This is just an initial impression of the app. I found it very informative and intuitive app. The videos are simple and easy to understand, and they aren’t nearly as long winded as other instructional videos I’ve found (much appreciated by the way). I love how each lesson has a set of interactive activities that focus on the key concepts of the lesson. For me this really helps me focus. I have looked into other training videos and articles and have been trying to get my female voice for the past year and a half. This app has already helped me identify flaws in my current ideals of how to get that voice. So I am very optimistic that if I stick to it, the results will be positive. Impressive GUI getting into some lessons and very impressed. :D can't wait for more from this app. ### 5/5 — Professional training at a fraction the price *2016-12-02, version 2.3.2* I can't give this app enough praise as its something I use almost daily and has helped me with my voice by orders of magnitude. Voice training is hard and it takes time. This app has been invaluable throughout my transition and if you give it a chance you will likely feel the same. I'm dissapointed to see how many people are discounting this app solely on the basis of the price of lessons: $5 each. What people aren't considering is the training in this app as well as the app itself comes from Kathe Perez, the foremost expert on transgender vocal training. Professional voice lessons will normally cost anywhere from $80 - $200 each! Compare that to $5 per lesson from the worlds best transgender voice therapist available any time of day or night anywhere in the world! I can't imagine the amount of time and effort it has taken Kathe to make this app available but quite frankly, $5 per lesson is probably less than what it has cost to produce this app, especially given the small size of the transgender community. This is absolutely the least expensive, best resource for voice training I have managed to find (and trust me I've looked wide and far). You can buy every single lesson this app currently has for less than a single voice lesson from less qualified therapists (14 lessons @ $5 each = $70). The transgender community should applaud this app, not tear it down. Resources to transgender individuals are few and far between, and this is a one of a kind gem. If you want to make your voice more feminine, get this app, buy the lessons, practice regularly, and you'll make substantial progress. ### 5/5 — Very useful *2016-09-21, version 2.3.1* This is a wonderful app for training your voice if you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on professional lessons. Why should an app be free just because it is designed to help a specific community. People need to make these applications and maintain them, thats usually not free. There are no annoying ads to deal with either. This app is not perfect but it works and I have purchased most of the lessons and still have not spent as much as I would have on a single voice lesson. ### 5/5 — Don't be fooled by these derps (catch the shade nega reviews!) *2016-08-03, version 2.3.1* For those of you looking to improve and work on your voice, this app is def for you. All the reviews so far are nasty and completely negative and shouldn't deter you from something like this that has so much potential. Although the app itself may not be perf, it definitely does the job. The very first lesson is short and free but it teaches you the most basic techniques you need to get you going on your vibrational journey. That alone is like someone giving you a flashlight in a very dark dark dungeon... Lol! Once you get passed that, the lesson are $5 a pop each with its own sub-lessons and tools. Each of those lessons should be done without haste, over and over to get the results you want, otherwise you end up like these girls frustrated beyond belief and hating for no reason (derp derp.) Yea each lesson costs $5 but when you consider the fact that the people behind the app are struggling to keep this going, it makes sense. Unfortunately it seems the previous critics before myself didn't do their research and assumed the people behind Eva are trying to rip em' off. Not the case, if you look them up on the interwebs, watch their vids and hear their intentions and struggles they're going through to bring this to us... It's not easy WHATSOEVER. NOBODY wants to invest in them because of who they're trying to help... Us, the trans community. All in all, give this a chance and I bet it'll help. Honestly it's one of the the only apps out there to help people like us (trust me I've looked my a** off.) I've taken classes with actual people and it's almost exactly the same. You just have to be very thorough with watching the vids and doing the lessons and that's it. You got it. Really hope this review helps all you girls out there make a good decision and best of luck!!! There’s no such thing as a free lunch—there never was. Price is the wrong thing to focus on for this app that could mean so much to earning / learning your own feminine voice—that would be priceless. You might be spending well over a year developing a good voice that you like and four dollars each time you move through sections of this training is a cheap price for what you will be gaining.
