## What is eVario?

eVario is your connected flight navigation companion during and after your adventure trip, helping you to visualise relevant data, assist you while progressing in the air by returning visual and acoustical feedback.

eVario is a 9-axis measurement (accelerometer, gyrometer,  gps), barometer assisted, connected and intuitive instrument with a polychrom display, exploiting the embedded device’s hardware and accurate sensoric, without need to connect external devices. It typically provides real time information of a variometer like altimeter, speedometer, odometer, chronometer, gyrometer, anemometer for every (air)craft pilot. Its configurable cockpit allows you to keep track of the most relevant to you. The integrated data logger automatically records your 3D location and provides the recorded track file to e.g. your iCloud Drive for track visualisation or flight metrics.

Optimised for low battery usage, the app lets you:

### 4/5 — Viel Leistung für wenig Geld

Gewaltiger Funktionsumfang, so weit ich beurteilen kann genau Messung (I-Phone 7). Sehr guter Support und offensichtliches Bemühen, die App stetig zu verbessern.
Warum noch keine 5 Sterne:
Bedienbarkeit aufgrund des Funktionsumfang nicht einfach (gilt für alle komplexen Geräte ) und die Ablesbarkeit ist bei Sonnenschein in Tasche mit Folie nicht gut.
Ich bin übrigens erst seit einem Jahr beim Gleitschirm, also kein Profi und habe die App bei Abgleitern bzw. Nullschiebern erprobt.

Ich bekomme die App leider nicht zum Laufen (iPhone 11, iOS 13.5.1). Manchmal kommt beim Start ein Dauerton, manchmal passiert gar nichts. Die Messungen der Sensoren werden, wenn überhaupt, erst mit sehr starker Verzögerung angezeigt bzw. akustisch signalisiert. Das ist für den Flug nicht nutzbar. Als Referenz für die Sensoren habe ich die phyphox-App benutzt. Dort werden z.B. horizontale/vertikale Beschleunigungen sofort angezeigt. Leider wurde die App auch nicht mehr gewartet ( letztes Update ist 4 Monate alt). Schade, nach der Empfehlung in der DHV-Info hätte ich deutlich mehr erwartet. Vielleicht kommt ja irgendwann ein Update, welches die Mängel behebt.

**Developer response:** Hallo, wir werden uns dieser iOS Konfiguration annehmen und Rückmeldung geben. Zur genauen Auswertung der Beschleunigungswerte bitte in den Einstellungen den Accelerometer als Mess-Methode auswählen und bei Bedarf die Messzeit auf 100ms oder kleiner setzen. Hiermit werden die vertikalen Beschleunigung-Impulse ebenso mit sehr geringer Verzögerung angegeben.
Ist die Mess-Methode Barometer aktiviert, empfiehlt sich die Aktivierung von Sensor Fusion um die Feinheit der Höhenangabe als auch die hohe Sensibilität des Accelerometer zu haben. Bei weiteren Fragen gerne unseren Support per Email kontaktieren.

Nachtrag: eVario v1.15.0 auf iOS 13.5.1/iPhone11 funktioniert einwandfrei. Bei gezielten Schwierigkeiten, bitte mit uns Kontakt aufnehmen und Details bereitstellen. Allgemein funktioniert eVario, auch in o.g. iPhone Konstellation. Hier muss es sich um ein Einzelfall handeln.

Die Bedienungsfreundlichkeit lässt stark wünschen übrig. Es werden viele unnütze Infos eingeblendet, Informationen auf der Karte lassen sich nur schwer anzeigen. Splitscreen geht bei mir gar nicht...

**Developer response:** Hallo Christian, eVario nutzt Notifizierungen um über Neuigkeiten bei Updates oder Inkonsistenzen in den Einstellungen zu informieren. Erst mit Bestätigung der Notifizierungen werden diese dauerhaft eingestellt.

Die Informationen auf der Karte werden von dem Menü ‘Einstellungen’ aus gesteuert. Es können z.B. Kartenstil, thermische Hotspots, Fluggebiete und Lufträume eingestellt werden. Die digitalen Anzeigen können auf der Karte Basis-Informationen wie z.B. Höhe, Geschwindigkeit, Steig-/Sink-Rate anzeigen. Einige infos werden aber auch flugsituativ per Audio-Assistenten ausgegeben. Ein experimentelles feature ist die gyroskopische Anzeige mit Waypointrichtung- und Wind-Richtungsanzeige.

Der Splitscreen wird ab iPhone 8 (hardware technisch) unterstützt. Dazu muss natürlich der Landschaftsmodus aktiviert sein und das Gerät waagerecht gehalten sein.

Die Kartenansicht lässt sich nicht wie beschrieben verlassen. Lang drücken, kurz drücken, oben oder unten...
Spart Euch Ärger - und diese App.

**Developer response:** Hallo, sicheres Verlassen der Karte 🔙 geht per einfachem Tippen zwischen beiden oberen digitalen Instrumenten (Widgets) in Nähe vom Kompass. Tut zuverlässig ab dem ersten Treffer! Beim Tippen auf den Kompass wird die Karte nach Norden ausgerichtet. Wird das Cockpit im Landschaftsmodus angezeigt, wird die Karte aufgrund der Bildschirmbreite immer angezeigt. Die Karte alleine anzuzeigen geht per Wischen nach links auf dem Cockpit. Gerne bei Bedarf mit uns direkt Kontakt (z.B. via eingebauter Kontaktfunktion) aufnehmen.

Jedesmal wenn ich in die Karte wechsle, komm ich nicht mehr zurück. Ich komm in keine Einstellungen und kann nichts mehr machen aus die App löschen und neu installieren. 
Da nervt mich der Preis dann schon und greife lieber auf eine andere App zurück

wird die Karte im Vollbildschirm-Modus angezeigt, kann die Karte per Touch im ganz oberen Bereich der Karte (oberhalb von einer unsichtbaren waagerechten Linie 1/5 Bildschirmhöhe) verlassen werden. Im Vollbildschirm-Modus wird die Priorität der Anzeige geben, um die Bedienung der Karte nicht zu beeinträchtigen. Die allgemeinen Einstellungen sind alle vom Cockpit aus zugänglich. Im Karten-Modus können natürlich interaktiv Anzeige-Einstellungen der Karte und dazugehörige Widgets in der Karte vorgenommen werden. Its great eVario does have/use all required measurement sensors onboard and it does not require connection to any external hardware. And the little time lag in cockpit is even perfect to filter reliable thermals. Short list of features I do like: configurable cockpit, bluetooth audio, height line graph, metrics graph, audio assistance during flight, thermals hotspots, flight sites. Im able to fly over hours with the help of eVario. The evario audio is not invasive. For experts the operation of sensors can be trimmed. The app takes care of detecting your track start and end by its own. One switch for activation is sufficient. Set back and focus on your flight. Thanks

BATTERY USE
Continued use of GPS and/or accelerometer running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. eVario was designed to use GPS very sparingly, but supports background usage for continued tracking. This was chosen wisely to maintain best experience. If you experience significant battery drain while using eVario, select the power save mode in the device's Settings menu or deactivate energy consuming instruments.
