### 3/5 — Obnoxious update frequency

*2026-02-26*

This app would be ok except every time I am out in the freezing cold or glaring sun ready to charge the app says I have to update it first. Bloody annoying. That and a request for a review every time before I charge. CUT IT OUT AND GIVE EVEN A SMALL THOUGHT TO USER EXPERIENCE!

### 3/5 — Chargers frequently out

*2026-01-06*

Inconsistent

### 2/5 — Phev charging

*2026-01-05*

Tried commercial charging for the first time and will not try again. Not only was the rate triple of what gas is they charged me for idl time at the end of charge. I was there within 15 minutes of charge completion.

### 3/5 — App login issues

*2025-12-05*

App states to remove Sign in with Apple, won’t let me sign in, and won’t let me reset my password.

**Developer response:** Hi TyrenJohn,
We’re very sorry for your experience.
Please update to the latest version of the app, then try logging in again.

### 2/5 — Did not work.

*2025-04-10*

Wanted to charge vehicle while waiting for airplane arrival; however, nothing worked.

### 1/5 — Chargers say In Use when not in Use

*2024-11-09, version 2.3.4*

Frequently not able to charge. I call customer service who reboots charger but still not able fix. They don’t admit these chargers are glitchy and don’t seem to work very reliably. Don’t waste your time with this garbage!

### 1/5 — Turnt a good thing to unusable

*2024-10-02*

I was happy to find and use the chargers as they were in a location that I frequent, and it made the burden of charging my vehicle a little more doable

However, I was very unhappy to learn that they recently changed their policy to start enforcing a $50 pre-authorization for every charge. I find this extremely insane for a transaction that, at max, usually comes out to $11-$13.

Other charges in the area do not attempt a $50 pre-authorization or any pre-auth for you to charge your vehicle. The way I see other chargers that do not require any pre-Auth amount is that they either load a certain amount to their service account card and charge based on that amount. If it exceeds that amount, the customer is forced to pay the remaining amount before starting another charge. Some chargers even have memberships where if you frequently use their chargers, the payment amount is pulled from an account you set up with them instead to combat nonpayment issues. There are so many different ways and solutions that can be employed here other than charging your customers $50 as a pre-authorization each time they wish to use your service.

One of the Chargers locations that I frequent is near a low-budget gym. If I'm going to this sort of gym, what makes you think that I have $50 for you each time I wish to charge my car with you? You are limiting access.

### 1/5 — Unit is terrible. I did not charge my car for those sessions, but I am being charged multiple times.

*2024-07-12, version 2.2.9*

Apps get stuck easily. One time, It fails to start charge it , and I can’t stop the session. Next day they randomly charged more than 10 times . I did not charge my car for those sessions , yet I am being charged . I ask for the refunds. But they refused . Terrible experiences I have been through with evoke Ev charging company. Do not use this charging company .

### 2/5 — Buggy

*2023-09-26, version 2.0.13*

It’s a high school project level app quality-wise.

### 1/5 — Buggy App caused phone to overheat

*2023-06-29*

Evoke Charging app is buggy, laggy, and insecure. My credit card was taken from this app because of security issues. The app is buggy and laggy and rarely works. It causes my phone to overheat at one point. Please don’t download this app!

**Developer response:** Please update the app to its latest version for the best experience.

### 1/5 — I would give 0 starts if i could

*2023-06-25, version 2.0.11*

The app doesn't work 75% of the time. All 51 chargers near me say available on their hookup but when you scan the qr or enter it manually it says charger not available. The chargers are useless and i cant charge my ev at home because their app does not work.

### 1/5 — EV app designed to frustrate

*2023-04-23, version 2.0.9*

Possibly the worst EV app on the market. Full of bugs, unhelpful customer service, and often broken.

### 1/5 — Just fails to work too often

*2023-03-29, version 2.0.9*

When it works, it’s great. Problem is the machines fail to initiate a session more than they do and then the app insists you’re connected. A set of beautiful brand new chargers at the Rochester, NY, airport, but I’ve only gotten them to work once.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ripoff

*2026-07-12*

These chargers were installed in my work parking lot. I have a hybrid plugin and get about the mileage equivalent of an about a gallon of gas for a full charge. The cost was about twice the amount of a gallon (and gas is expensive right now!). The idle time charges were not clear and I started racking them up immediately after my car reached a full charge. It cost me $9 for the charge (for 40 miles of charge) and it got up to $16 with idle time. I will NEVER use again. And I noticed no one else does either. They sit empty all the time. It was a total ripoff.

### 1/5 — Settings are annoying

*2026-05-01, version 2.6.3*

Just want to let me enter QR code

### 1/5 — Difficult to startup

*2025-11-10*

I used an evoke charger at the Westchester Marriott. It was very difficult to get the charger started. There were five chargers but they are not numbered or identifiable in any manner. It took 40 frustrating minutes and two long calls to customer service to get the charging station started.

### 1/5 — Not user-friendly

*2025-09-10*

The experience using these chargers is that it’s cumbersome clunky and not user-friendly and the quality of service has been inconsistent at best sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t and when it does it charges extremely slow

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-08-05, version 2.5.1*

Honestly, this is one of the worst apps I’ve ever had the displeasure of using. It’s as if it was cobbled together as a high school project. It barely works. Anytime I’m actually able to use the app successfully I am counting myself lucky. For one thing, the charging hardware often can’t make a connection to the app, whether you scan the QR code or enter the QR code number manually into the app. In more recent versions, this seems to work better thankfully. But then once you start charging, the charging process can just stop abruptly for no reason. This just happened to me a few minutes ago. My car was only plugged in for a little over an hour, nowhere near my charge limit, and it just stops charging. They introduced an AI support bot that is no help whatsoever. My guess is they had so many requests for support because of their garbage app that they couldn’t afford all the phone support folks and just spent their money on an AI bot to make people feel like there’s better support than there is. When I tried to use the AI bot just now, it was able to figure out what charger I was plugged in at, and when I confirmed that was the right one, its next reply was “I have no help for you.”. What is the point?? Besides that, every time I charge, I get an invoice showing $0.00. Yet my card is charged. Seriously? It’s almost impressive how many things don’t work in this app. Guys - step aside and let someone else do the job since you clearly cannot.

### 1/5 — Why is the Holmdel site still down

*2025-07-18*

Loved the Holmdel site but it's been down for more than a month. Love to see it back up soon

### 1/5 — Fix the UX

*2025-02-14*

Please remove the “rate your charge” prompt after every charge. Most people use the app for daily charging and this just adds friction to an already cumbersome flow.

Very simple solution, only ask to review on first charge at that station.

**Developer response:** Hi,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I will look into your request with the development team to see what kind of changes we can make. The purpose of this feature is give drivers the ability to provide immediate feedback on the session or the site, which allows for EVoke to proactively reach out to the station owners and fix any issues as quick as possible.

As you know, the worst part of charging an EV is showing up to a site expecting to charge and the charger is broken or not able to be used, and this feature has provided massive insight to the station owners to force quicker responses to issues. Thanks again, and have a great day.

### 1/5 — Have a problem to charge

*2025-02-11*

Every couple of hours need to connect the car to charge again

**Developer response:** Hi,
I appreciate your feedback. Please understand that the reason this would happen is due to the connectivity onsite and not EVoke's software, though, I am happy to investigate further for you with the reseller and charge station owner. Please provide any specific location and charger information from the app to support@evokesystems.com at your earliest convenience.

Outside of this, since your rating is based on an issue outside of EVoke's offerings, I kindly ask that you remove or update your rating to share your feedback on the application itself. Thank you!

### 1/5 — Unreliable chargers

*2025-01-23*

Charger can end session early leaving car uncharged and generate unexpected parking fee

**Developer response:** Hi,

I'm sorry to hear your feedback here. Please understand that the reason this may happen is due to poor charger connectivity onsite. EVoke is always willing to make things right and will investigate any charge session that you see as charged incorrectly. Submit your findings to support@evokesystems.com and we will promptly respond to make this right for you.

### 1/5 — Crashed my iPhone

*2025-01-05, version 2.4.0*

After installing the app, this completely locked up my iPhone and made it unusable until I could force it to reboot. It froze the phone at the point where I was going to scan a QR code on the evoke charger.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Charging with evoke is gr8

*2026-06-15*

Out of 5 charger, 2 chargers are not working almost like a year. When I tried reaching out to evoke they said it's the YMCA facility who has to fix it, also told me to contact them. Evoke has to reach out to them as they have a tie up with YMCA. Many ev drivers have tired complaining but don't respond.
YMCA facility many days they shut down all ev charger.
