### 5/5 — Wow

*2021-03-01*

It took me a little while begin to figure this app out, and I still have a ways to go. I think the manual suggests just loading up the presets (Performances) and letting ‘er rip, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing all weekend. The sounds it comes up with are fantastic, it’s really unique and a must for anyone with AUM.

### 5/5 — SHOCKINGLY AMAZED ME

*2020-09-02*

What an excellent sound quality with amazing sequencer

### 5/5 — Great update to an awesome app!

*2020-08-06*

Stellar customer service from this developer: I had noted in my first review that the app was deep, flexible, and creative--but that it lacked a mode that allowed the musician to play Evolver like a true keyboard instrument. Less than a week later, the developer released this update with the free sync option! Now we get both an option to sync to the host tempo for latching perfectly synced sequences AND the free sync mode to play Evolver like a traditional keyboard Instrument. Simply an amazing value for the money. Just buy it already!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. Since this is an AUv3 intended to work inside a DAW the ability to sync to tempo is the most important aspect of the program. Lanes running none sequences or triggering samples do start immediately, but each lane that is linked to a sequence have to be queued and played locked to the host tempo as it stands. I will look into adding an option for those not wanting this. During delveopment I tried both methods, and decided this was the best choice, but I guess it doesn't best suite those not wanting to run it hosted inside a DAW.

### 5/5 — Perfect accompaniment app

*2020-07-22*

Hi
This app is very good for creating accompaniment styles, like yamaha , korg ,.. arrangement keyboards. With unlimited tracks in auv3 mode .
But I haven’t found developer email address for reporting bug or request ; for example adding dots and triple to time section , or other request. I have many requests for this perfect app .

### 5/5 — um ...wow...?

*2020-06-01*

As a long-time Korg WaveStation EX owner and lover, who sold his beloved WS a long time ago, the obvious comparison here for me is indeed the WS. As much as I loved it, programming that beast was a tedious process and I sometimes got lost in the process of creating wave sequence patches and assembling them into a usable "performance" setting.

Evolverfx is a giant leap forward audio/wave chain synthesis. But keep in mind that wave sequence synthesis is inherently more complex than more conventional and common subtractive synthesis. Even with its improved synthesis workflow, it take time to master this baby. Don't expect to be fully in charge in your first session.

Evolverfx is as deep and even deeper in many ways than the WS and it is far easier to program. It is also much more flexible due to such things as separate timing and loop controls, etc. for each of the four "wave sequence "lanes". One can also easily import one's own audio files to place anywhere in any wave sequence. With these and other improvements the possibilities of wave-sequencing expand rapidly into significant new vistas of audio grooviness, which make Evolverfx more on the level of the newer Kong WaveState and it costs only a microscopic fraction (~ 1%) of the cost of a WaveState, even if you can find one.

The audio quality of Evolverfx is as good as almost any software synthesizer out there. The only ones I know of that might have a more hi-fi sound is Moog's ModleD and LayR both of which are based on the subtractive synthesis model that is far easier to create in software. On my 2017 iPad Pro 12.9" I heard no aliasing from Evolverfx until I got up into the mid range of the 6th octave while playing a single lane with a phase-shifting wave.

The only weak part I have discovered in Evolverfx is in the area of the audio effects. They sound good but they are fairly basic by today's standard and are too subtle for those who like to add cosmic levels of mutation to their finished sound. That is not really much of a problem given the huge library of AUv3 effects available today.

Bottom line: stop reading this and BUY IT.

### 5/5 — Excellent music creation Tool

*2020-05-14*

Very well done musicians tool with great YouTube tutorials by the developer. Great work!

### 5/5 — Korg wavestate in software?

*2020-05-09*

This thing is better than having a new korg wavestate it is way more flexable and easier to program. It excels at creation of sequences with way more options than any sequencer offers change samples change timing this thing is a masterpiece an absolute must have. Developers have already added new awesome features buy it now it’s unlike any other.

### 5/5 — Problem

*2020-05-04, version 1.02*

The app is fantastic and I bought it immediately. I have a small problem. I have an iPad Pro 2020 256 gb but when I play the virtual keyboard the sound does not come out in real time. It’s like a latency. What could be the problem? Other app work perfectly

### 5/5 — As deep as you want it to be!

*2020-04-29*

Based on the idea of wave sequencing but taken to another level, you can create anything from evolving ambient pads to auto-accompaniment type grooves to instant soundtracks. The interface is pretty straightforward and you can be as simple or as deep as you want to go. I can’t think of another app quite like it, and the developer has already updated it a couple of times with useful enhancements. Recommended!

### 5/5 — What a great music app!

*2020-04-29*

As soon as I saw it was from 4Pockets, I downloaded straight away. Brilliant. 4Pockets make me sound like a talented musical performer. Great fun.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Just needed to draw your attention

*2024-02-11*

I would rate this app a definite 5 stars. However I placed a one star to draw developer’s attention. I keep getting stuck/hanging notes while playing via my keyboard. Please address and fix this bug as it is extremely frustrating to play anything. Also, is there a link to download new or extra performances????
Love it. However fix the stuck/hanging notes issue asap to receive your deserved 5 stars 🙏🏻

### 1/5 — My first experience

*2020-11-03*

I do not see any use to this.

I find 4 chords - just 4. Can you tell me why just 4? There is nothing here I understand. You should have had a nice song loaded to demonstrate this. I am losing patience fast. I hope day 2 goes better.

**Developer response:** I'm not sure what you mean by 4 chords? Evolver requires a MIDI keyboard input. You need to load performances and it will play auto accomaniment to the chords you input. I have many tutorials on Evolver on my YouTube channel under 'Paul the MusicMan'. Please check them out and leave me a message if you are still struggling.

### 2/5 — Great app but poor midi implementation

*2026-05-28*

Happy to rate it a 5 but the hard coded midi CC and note data is just really a dumb idea. In fact its a true pain in the neck. The app needs to be midi configurable as many rigs already have and use the midi CC numbers 20-30 etc.

### 2/5 — Sustain va in blocco…

*2022-10-16, version 1.10*

Peccato!… attendo risposta….

### 2/5 — Stop playing

*2020-11-30*

Why stop making sound I just change some parameters and no sound I’m doing something wrong?
In AUM I just eject the app and reload I sound come back
Is a bug ?

**Developer response:** Chances are whatever parameters you changed effect the way the sound is produced. Can you give me more information on this so I can look into if this is a bug or just a settings thing? I have many tutorials on this app on my YouTube channel which may help. Look for 'Paul the MusicMan' and you will find plenty of tutorials on the app.

### 3/5 — I want to love it.

*2022-11-26*

But notes get stuck and won’t stop playing. Using progressions with it but then it’s seems to find a midi note that never ends till you hit panic and then that note always plays when you try to play something else. Very noticeable on the default strings that load into AUM. I LOVE SO MUCH ABOUT THIS APP. But this bug makes it unusable at times. It seems to happen when other apps are sending chords, like chordbud2, and it happens when using other host, like sands or Audiobus.

### 3/5 — Sequence timing issue

*2022-01-27*

Timing of the sequences is unpredictable running as an AUM instrument tried about every permutation of reset lane, loop length etc. Sequence stopped triggering notes eventually. Almost like the probability features were implemented even though all probability was set to off. IPad air 2 14.4.2

### 3/5 — Yes, but…

*2021-10-15*

I love Paul’s ideas and this is a good one, but I’ve done the tutorials, worked my way though most of the pitfalls, but still can’t get my head around loading new samples into different slots with consistent success. I’m obviously missing something but maybe this one is best left to those wiser than I.

### 3/5 — Strong and Hopefully Not Forgotten

*2021-07-28*

I love the power of this app and how deep it can go. With all the features though it’s somewhat difficult to personalize due to the layout. If the app is still getting updates please add an indicator of name/number/or color of which lane you are on when you are further down the programming pages. Maybe even a small toggle indicator. This and reliable SFZ import would really give this thing wings for people who want to venture beyond presets!

### 3/5 — Sync still not accurate

*2020-08-06, version 1.09*

Chords are now played to early according to Ableton link tempo, at least when using Song mode with chords...

Checking out the new version now...sigh.

Update (on dev response):

Sorry, but I think it’s wrong:

Since it annoyed me and I‘ve liked the result of track, I needed to do something about the timing, without the use of any mind reader, but a MOZAIC script, which allows to delay any MIDI activity on connected channels.

Set it to a [DELAY of 50ms] and then it‘s coming in exactly in time!

So the only thing for your inaccurate host sync is to add +50ms!

No need for an additional mind reader midi AUv3, but Mozaic, like it seems...

### 5/5 — Il miglior programma in assoluto

*2026-04-21, version 1.24*

### 5/5 — Deep Inspiration

*2026-04-09*

Such a deep app, with a robust preset library to get things started. Edit and alter lanes to match the styles you need. Import your own samples for infinite arrangements.

### 5/5 — Thanks Paul

*2025-03-14*

Brilliant app love using this as with all your plugins. Thanks for the fix.

### 5/5 — Developer inattentive.

*2025-03-04*

UPDATE: The developer has rectified the issue. Thank you.

### 5/5 — This app is the greatest invention and contribution in terms of creativity

*2024-05-21*

Paul is not a name of a person,

Paul of 4pockets is the name of the Greatest Patron of music.

### 5/5 — Problema col sustain

*2024-03-24, version 1.11*

Anch’io riscontro il problema delle note bloccate con l’uso del pedale sustain! Peccato perché è un app perfetta per i live!

### 5/5 — Only minutes but love it

*2023-11-13*

Just got the app and love it to death, every app from Paul is top shelf the only app that don’t work out of the 7 I have is flex liquid audio on my new iPad pros. But works on an old iPod air to I hooked it up to my system but had to get a bigger mixer lol very satisfied with the whole package thank you Paul

### 5/5 — A really fascinating…

*2023-03-12, version 1.10*

… and fantastic generator: creative, deep, versatile…like the name says, an evolver. Comes with a lot of internal samples and presets to explore and understand the app. Perfect in connection with Chameleon and Neon. You can use your own multi-sampled synthsounds, add your fieldrecordings or atmos to build up musical concepts or enormous soundspaces…thank you for this app!

### 5/5 — Eat your heart out korg(almost).

*2022-08-21*

If you can’t afford the korg wavestate( or it’s software counterpart). You’ll love this, granted there are a few limitations imposed by hardware constraints, but you still have immense flexibility add chameleon and you can effectively create a custom sound library that suits your style.

### 5/5 — The Dynamo of music apps!

*2022-08-02, version 1.10*

The most ambitious ‘ Wunderarbeit’ yet from the fertile mind of 4Pockets does things I do not fully understand, but sounds wonderful. It’s the kind of app you mess around with and serendipitously discover something that you would never have found any other way.
