## What is Executive Angler?

Executive Angler is the fly fishing journal that turns every day on the water into a record you'll actually use — free for every angler. Log a session in seconds, read live river conditions before you leave the house, build and tie the flies you actually fish, and watch your own patterns emerge season after season.

TAP ONCE. START FISHING.
Auto-detect your river, map your GPS route, pull real-time weather, and count your catch — while a Live Activity keeps your time and fish count on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Force-quit the app, lose signal, switch to the camera: the session survives and syncs when you're back in range.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO.
Live USGS flow, water temperature, and weather for 200+ rivers — plus a fishability score and 12-month flow history, so you know when to drop everything and go.

MATCH THE HATCH.
See what's hatching on the rivers you fish, month by month, tied to the patterns that actually work.

YOUR FLY BOX, ORGANIZED.
Catalog every pattern you fish, flag what to tie next, and pull up any fly — with photos, sizes, and notes — right when you need it.

A REAL TYING WORKBENCH.
Build structured recipes step by step — hook, thread, bead, body, hackle, and more — with autocomplete from a database of 500+ tying materials. Start from 120+ proven patterns or create your own from scratch, then export a clean PDF to tie from at the vise.

WHAT CAN I TIE?
Tell the app what materials you have on hand and it instantly shows every pattern you can tie right now — no more guessing at the bench.

FIND THE PATTERNS IN YOUR FISHING.
Fish per session, species breakdown, best flies, best windows, personal bests, and year-over-year trends — all built from your own catch history, and only yours.

EVERY FISH ON THE MAP.
Route, stats, conditions, and notes captured for every trip, with your catches pinned exactly where they happened.

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT.
Your journal belongs to you. We never publish your locations or your fish counts. Anything you share is always your call.

ON YOUR WRIST.
An Apple Watch companion keeps the essentials with you when your phone stays in your pack.

Free to download, free to use, all of it. Get Executive Angler, log your next cast, tie your next fly, and let your fishing compound.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.0 — 2026-07-03

Executive Angler is the complete fly fishing journal — every feature, free for every angler. Log your sessions, read live river conditions, and dig into a full fly-tying workbench: browse 120+ proven patterns, build your own recipes from a database of 500+ tying materials, and see exactly what you can tie right now.

Thanks for fishing with us.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-05-30

This is our offline-first release. The canyon doesn't get a bar of signal — Executive Angler no longer cares.

OFFLINE-FIRST CAPTURE
End a session, write a final note, attach a photo to a catch — all of it works with no signal, no battery, no app in the foreground. Everything captures locally and uploads when you're back in range. Force-quit the app or lose battery mid-session: the session survives and finishes uploading on the next launch.

REBUILT FLY ARCHITECTURE
- Flattened pattern model: a single picker for every fly, with personal forks tied back to their canonical pattern.
- New Tie Next view ranks what's running low against what you've actually been catching on.
- Quick Fly Add, lost-fly tracking, variant photo uploads, and inventory that decrements the way you actually fish.

APPLE WATCH
- Two-page session view with sticky defaults — your usual rig is one tap away.
- Standalone catch logging continues to work over LTE with no phone required.

REAL-TIME WEB ↔ iOS SYNC
Fly box changes on the web appear on your phone instantly, and vice versa.

RELIABILITY
Live activity race conditions, double-tap edge cases, image jetsam during long sessions, and signup-preflight error states all addressed.

FOUNDERS' FREE LAUNCH YEAR
Every Pro feature is unlocked — free — for every signed-in account through May 25, 2027. Subscribe now to lock in $2.99/mo or $19.99/yr before the regular paywall returns.

### 1.3.9 — 2026-05-24

This update rebuilds session save, the post-session review, and catch photo uploads from the ground up so the app actually works in places without service.

— OFFLINE-FIRST SESSION END —
Tap End Session and the next screen appears immediately, whether you have a full bar or none. The data is durable on disk before the screen finishes its animation. Whatever the network ends up doing, your fish are logged.

— INSTANT POST-SESSION REVIEW —
The review sheet now renders from local cache the moment it opens. Stats, catches, river name, and weather are populated before any server round trip starts. Type your notes, tap Save, and the sheet dismisses immediately. The actual upload runs in the background and finishes whenever signal returns.

— RESILIENT CATCH PHOTOS —
Catch photos are written to disk before the save sheet closes. Shoot a photo of a fish, log the catch, walk away with no service for hours, force-quit the app, switch to another camera app, lose battery — the queued photo survives. As soon as you have signal it uploads in the background.

— RECONNECT-AWARE SYNC —
The moment your phone reconnects, any pending session saves, notes, and photos all sync automatically. No more "I'll launch the app later to make sure it uploaded."

— FIXES —
• Photo Library picker now opens reliably on iOS 26
• Typing a note in Session Review no longer risks overwriting queued end-session data
• Removed legacy column writes that were silently failing on every session end
• Pending data from interrupted sessions drains automatically on app launch

### 1.3.7 — 2026-05-17

1.3.7 — Fly Box Refresh

Your Fly Library is now fully synced with the web in real time. Tie a new fly on the web Workbench and it appears in the iOS Fly Library the next time you open it. Build a custom box, drag flies into it on the web, and that box shows up on your iPhone with the right counts the next time you pull to refresh.

— FLY LIBRARY REBUILT —
Browse every approved fly in the catalog, filtered by category (Dry, Nymph, Streamer, Emerger, Wet, Terrestrial, Egg, Midge). Tap a fly for the full recipe, materials, fishing tips, and history. Add any fly to one of your custom boxes with a single tap.

— CUSTOM BOXES, INSTANT SYNC —
Web is the source of truth for your fly collection. Boxes you create, flies you tie, and configurations you save all flow to iPhone and Apple Watch immediately. No more out-of-sync gear bags.

— APPLE WATCH PICKER —
The watch fly picker now pulls from the same library as the phone. Your Kill Box, your Caddis Box, your Streamer Box — every variant, every bead size, every hook — available on your wrist.

— CLEANER FLY BOX SCREEN —
The Fly Box tab now matches the rest of the app with a clean inline header, freeing up vertical space for the actual list of flies.

— CATCH LOGGING UPGRADES —
New catches now link to your saved fly configurations, so the picker's recents and the analytics views resolve flies the same way the web does. Older catches keep working — nothing migrated, nothing lost.

— STABILITY —
Fixed a schema error that was preventing the Fly Library from loading. Fixed a session-detail bug where the top fly stat ignored newer catches. Cleaned up a count discrepancy on sessions with mixed catch flows.

Editing fly recipes and creating boxes still happens on the web for now — the iPhone is the read-and-fish surface, and the web is the workbench. Both are in the same account.

### 1.3.6 — 2026-05-14

THE APPLE WATCH GOES STANDALONE

Your watch is now a complete fishing companion — no iPhone required. Walk into the backcountry with zero signal and capture everything: GPS route, catches, weather, even live USGS flow data. Everything uploads automatically when you're back in range.

What the watch now does on its own:
• Auto-detects the nearest river from GPS
• Fetches live weather (temp, humidity, wind, pressure, conditions)
• Pulls USGS flow + gauge height when available
• Logs catches with the fly, size, location, and weather at the moment you landed it
• Tracks your full GPS route in the background
• Refreshes weather + flow every 30 minutes during long sessions

End a session on your watch and your iPhone shows the finalize sheet (notes, privacy, photos) when you're back in range — same handoff pattern as Strava.

NEW CONDITIONS PAGE

Swipe right during an active session for a deep-dive on what's actually going on out there: river name up top, big primary temperature with conditions, then a clean table of humidity, wind, and pressure. USGS flow + gauge height + water temp appear when your river has a gauge mapped.

SMARTER LOG FISH ON WATCH

One-tap variant picker — choose "Lite Brite Perdigon #18 with 3.5mm bead" in a single crown click. No more drilling through pattern → size → bead separately.

• Pre-fills with your last fly used, even days later
• Cleaner step order: Species → Length → Fly → Size → Note
• Faster, more reliable crown navigation
• Catches you log on the watch carry their full fly identity through to the iPhone — no more "Other" placeholders

PUSH NOTIFICATIONS WORK NOW

Lock-screen alerts for likes, comments, and follow requests arrive reliably for the first time. We resolved a long-standing entitlement issue that was silently blocking delivery.

CRASH RESILIENCE

• GPS route is persisted continuously during a session — a force-quit no longer loses the trail
• Sessions ended without signal retry automatically on the next launch
• Catches captured offline upload in the order they were logged, with full fidelity

DISPLAY FIXES

Catches logged with the new variant-first picker now show their fly correctly everywhere they appear — in-session catch rows, post-session review, session detail, river history, insights, fly effectiveness chart, year-over-year stats, and CSV/PDF exports. Long fly names truncate cleanly instead of breaking row layout.

NETWORKING IMPROVEMENTS

Every request now has a 15-second timeout — no more spinning forever on a flaky cell signal. Better diagnostics underneath so we can chase down edge cases faster.
