## What is Exercise Snacks?

Most cardio assumes two things: that you have the time, and that you're already fit enough to survive it. Exercise Snacks assumes neither.

As little as 3 intense bursts of cardio distributed across your day can measurably improve your cardiovascular fitness and counteract the effects of prolonged sitting.

Peer-reviewed research found that a few hard efforts per day, spaced roughly an hour apart, produced a 5% improvement in VO₂peak (a measure of cardiovascular fitness) after just 6 weeks in previously inactive adults*.

These aren't mobility or strength exercises - it's cardio that significantly elevates your heart rate. High in intensity, short in duration, and fits anywhere, anytime.

*How it works*

Set your hours, your days, how many snacks a day, and how long each one lasts - anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute. The app schedules them automatically, spaced through your window.

When it's time, you get a notification. Snooze it if you're mid-something. Otherwise you get a cue card with your move and the effort you're aiming for, a countdown, and then you're done and back to work. No kit, no gym, no shower.

*Pick a move*

Five are built in - stair climbs, sit to stand, air squats, running on the spot and star jumps - and you can add your own. Your next one shows on the home screen, so there's nothing to decide when the reminder lands. Want a lead-in? Switch on the optional 15-second warm-up.

*On Apple Watch*

The biggest risk with any reminder-based habit is ignoring the reminder. A phone notification is easy to dismiss at your desk. A tap on your wrist is not.

Count in and run a snack from your wrist, with daily progress at a glance, so you can leave your phone at your desk. With your permission the watch records your peak heart rate for the effort, and saves each completed snack to Apple Health as a High Intensity Interval Training workout - so it counts towards your Activity rings.

*Every burst logged*

The time, the duration, how hard it felt, and your peak heart rate if you were wearing your watch. Tap any day to open everything you did that day.

*See every week*

Your history is recorded either way, and it stays on your phone. This week sits on the home screen; Exercise Snacks Pro opens up everything before it - every past week in the grid you already use, any day in detail, your running totals, and which moves you actually reach for.

This week's grid, every snack, the whole watch app and all the science stay free.

*Private by design*

No account, no server, no analytics, and no networking code of our own - your data stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch. The one thing that reaches the network is Apple's StoreKit, which handles the subscription and carries none of your data.

*Who it's for*

If you're a sedentary worker, low on fitness or time-constrained, this app can help. It can offset the effects of prolonged sitting and build cardiovascular fitness in a way that's actually maintainable. The evidence behind it is in the app, under Settings → About.

Exercise Snacks involves vigorous physical activity. If you have a heart condition, are pregnant, or have been inactive for a long time, consult your doctor before starting.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### v1.3.1 — 2026-08-29

Polish and fixes, plus a new icon:

• A new app icon, on iPhone and Apple Watch. • If notifications are off, the app now says so — on the home screen and in Settings → Notifications — and takes you straight to the switch. • Snooze is offered on every snack, not only the first of the day. • The warm-up toggle stays on when you save your schedule. • Bigger phase labels during a snack, and your move stays on screen right through the burst. • Higher-contrast, larger text throughout. • VoiceOver support on Apple Watch.

Thanks for snacking with us. Keep moving!

### v1.3.0 — 2026-08-26

Look back. Where the last update was about what you do in those 20 seconds, this one is about everything you've already done:

• The home grid is a timeline now — page back through your weeks instead of only seeing this one. (Pro)
• A new history screen, from the calendar button: a month at a glance, any week in the grid you already know, and your running totals — snacks completed, active minutes, exercises tried. (Pro)
• Your exercise mix — which moves you actually reach for, most-used first. (Pro)
• A redesigned day view: the day summarised up top, and every snack labelled with the move you did.

Exercise Snacks Pro is new in this update — monthly or annual, both with a 2-week free trial for new subscribers. This week's grid, every snack you record, the whole Apple Watch app and all the science stay free.

Thanks for snacking with us. Keep moving!

### v1.2.0 — 2026-08-17

Pick your move. Where the last update was about your wrist, this one is about what you actually do in those 20 seconds:

• Five exercises built in — stair climbs, sit to stand, air squats, running on the spot and star jumps — each with its own illustration. Add your own if none of them fit. • Your next move now shows on the home screen, and you can change it right there without starting anything. • An optional 15-second warm-up, if you'd rather ease in. • A rebuilt get-ready screen, with a count-in before the burst starts. • The science — the research behind exercise snacking, now in the app under Settings → About. • Cancel a snack mid-way, on your phone or your watch.

On Apple Watch, the post-snack flow now matches the phone, your next move shows on your wrist, and your warm-up setting carries across.

We've also rewritten onboarding, rebuilt the post-snack effort rating, updated the app icons, and added full Dynamic Type and VoiceOver support right up to the largest accessibility sizes.

Plus a solid run of reliability fixes: snacks are recorded the moment the burst ends, so locking your phone no longer loses one; a missed or cancelled snack is rescheduled instead of quietly disappearing; tapping a reminder opens the right screen even when the app was closed; and watch workouts no longer stay open after you background or force-quit the app.

Thanks for snacking with us. Keep moving!

### v1.1.0 — 2026-07-15

Exercise Snacks now works right on your wrist.

This is our biggest update yet — meet the all-new Apple Watch app:

    • Start a snack from your watch — no need to reach for your phone. A tap kicks off an animated count-in and you're moving.
    • Haptic coaching — gentle taps guide you through each snack and let you know the moment you're done, even with the screen down.
    • Rate your effort — a quick post-snack check-in, right on the watch.
    • Watch complication — see your daily progress at a glance from your watch face, updated throughout the day.
    • Seamless sync — snacks you complete on your watch flow straight back to your iPhone.

We've also given the app a warmer new look with a fresh app icon and refreshed colours, added a Send Feedback / Report a Problem option in Settings so you can reach us directly, and polished onboarding.

Plus loads of reliability fixes — including a cleaner daily reset at midnight and more dependable notifications.

Thanks for snacking with us. Keep moving!

### 1.0.2 — 2026-06-02

Improved notification reliability throughout:
- Reminders now fire even if you don't open the app — the app pre-schedules up to 6 days of prompts at a time so you're covered without needing a daily launch.
- Snack reminders stay within your scheduled window and are spread out naturally through the day.
- Snoozing won't push a reminder past your end time.
- You'll see a clear message when there isn't enough time left in the day to fit remaining snacks.
We also added a brief health disclaimer to the welcome screen.
