### 4/5 — Versatile customizable Exercise Timer

*2025-06-18*

I’ve used this exercise timer for nearly 7 years. Is the only one I’ve found that easily allows me too create a variety of exercise routines that integrate rep-sets and/or timed sets; super-sets; rest periods, share workouts, etc. Access across devices.

The rating could just as easily be a 5/5 if
- updates on one device carried over to another device without having to log out and log back in to the second device
- being able to duplicate a workout using an iPhone (fortunately I have been bales to share an existing workout through text and then modifying it
- to have the ability to search, sort, or re-order the routines

(These could be nice upgrades at some point.)

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-01-31, version 1.35*

Awesome variety of work outs and has the flexibility to create your own, it is perfect

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for

*2024-11-13*

Simple to use, clean interface. The sample workouts were easy to modify to what I wanted, and I was able to do what I needed with the free version (so far).

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-10-15, version 1.33*

Great app, thank you

### 5/5 — Great app. Simple and effective

*2024-09-30*

This is a great app. I’ve been using it for a couple of years now. It’s simple, clean and efficient. No bombardment of ads. No unnecessary fluff or flashy lights to distract you. It does what it claims. I highly recommend. To the devs, just leave it be. It works great as it is. Often times, trying to improve something just makes it worse.

**Developer response:** Hi, This issue should now be fixed. Please update to the latest version. Let me know if the issue is not resolved or if there's anything else you like to discuss. You can reach me for support on melvin@exercisetimer.net.

### 4/5 — Wonderful until it crashed this morning

*2024-09-27*

Tried to find a way to reach app support but requires login.

Have been using the app, delightfully, for a couple of weeks. It has proven a game changer for my simple routine. Again, delighted.

It does save the data in a peculiar way, the time units get all fouled up. More a nuisance than anything, figured I was getting a lot more than I was paying for already.

Today it crashed… fails to open or opens to a black screen. Restarted my phone, looked in App Store for a possible update, uninstalled-reinstalled… fail fail fail.

Trust it’s something they can resolve by tomorrow! Not sure if I upgrading to paid version would resolve, no warning or known limited trial.

**Developer response:** Hi, This is a known issue on version 1.31 on some devices. Please update to version 1.32. Let me know if the issue is not resolved or if there's anything else you like to discuss. You can reach me for support on melvin@exercisetimer.net.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2024-05-13, version 1.28*

Best HIIT timer out there as it lets you name your exercises then calls them out as you do them. Re-ordering excercises on iPhone is a little buggy though

### 3/5 — Used to be my Go To

*2024-04-04, version 1.28*

This app used to be great but has stopped stating the name of the exercise before doing it, I’ve tried everything in the settings but it doesn’t do it anymore. Without this feature it’s basically useless.

### 3/5 — Landscape in IOS??

*2024-03-17, version 1.28*

Is there a landscape option in IOS? And can you link it to health?

### 5/5 — Good Job

*2024-03-13, version 1.28*

Oh guys this is so fun app to work

### 4/5 — Lovely timer but….

*2024-02-27, version 1.28*

This is great to program bootcamps. I even use it for my pilates classes. Easy to use but duplicating exercises and moving around in the edit stage is a nightmare, the screen moves! Please fix so screen is static making reordering less frustrating.

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2024-02-10*

Awesome app, the best workout timer app out there.

### 3/5 — Not as good as on android- building a workout involves too much swiping

*2024-01-06, version 1.27*

You can swipe left, swipe right and it’s all too much. I want too swipe right to delete or duplicate an exercise and it takes me to a new page. It’s a bit clunkier than the android version, where it was very easy to build custom workouts.

### 4/5 — Watch app not so good

*2023-12-06, version 1.27*

Would have been 5 but the watch app is pretty poor on my series 6

### 4/5 — Could use shortcut/automation support

*2023-10-09, version 1.23*

Generally this is a great app, but I would love to be able to trigger specific workouts via iOS Shortcuts.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Very disappointed with this app

*2025-06-05*

I’m a full time fitness instructor and I’ve been using this app for over 2.5 years. Recently I’ve had issues with it syncing to my Apple Watch. It would never update, workouts wouldn’t show up or update, it would randomly lock me out and say I needed to upgrade (I was always upgraded.) last night in the middle of teaching it locked me out and said I needed the pro version. Today when it was saying the same thing so I thought maybe uninstalling the app from my phone would reset it. Instead, it deleted all my routines for the last 6 months. There’s no way to contact anyone with your issues so I personally would not recommend this app.

**Developer response:** Hi Kristin, I apologise again for this issue. For others seeing this comment, the bug that caused this issue is found and fixed in version 2.36. The issue effected some accounts with 500+ workouts and most of the times after a reorder (sorting) of workouts is done. Once again this issue is solved in the latest release. I also improved the sync engine to further prevent this from happening.

### 1/5 — Apple Watch bug

*2024-12-16, version 1.33*

The version on Apple Watch was dysfunctional. Exercises did not update properly and the settings didn’t allow the display to stay on so the app stopped when the display turns off which messed up the intervals.

### 1/5 — Input Nightmare

*2024-09-01*

Tried using this app since I use the desktop version frequently with my laptop. Inputting information into this app was a nightmare. First of all, an account is required, which is odd considering I just want to use it for the interval timer function, but okay, sure. Inputting specifics for exercises that were not already preprogrammed was incredibly time-consuming and difficult, as the interface wants to slip and slide around as much as physically possible if you only so much as brush the pad of your finger on it wrong. Tapping and holding something to move it also activates the scroll wheel, so good luck getting your routine in order. I ended up getting so frustrated trying to get my stretching routine in order (didn’t even bother trying my workout routine) that I deleted my account and uninstalled. This app needs a lot of work.

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks for your in depth review. You are right. This was a major issue which made it difficult to edit long workouts. The issues you mentioned are now fixed in the latest version. Feel free to try it out and reach out again if any issue is not solved as it should.

### 1/5 — Je ne recommande pas

*2024-05-27, version 1.28*

Difficile a prendre en main

### 1/5 — Constant glitches

*2024-05-05, version 1.28*

Freezes constantly. I can’t even read the help articles without it freezing & needing to be restarted. Also, the premium features I paid for don’t work.

It just isn’t functional for iOS 17.

### 1/5 — Phone locked

*2021-08-31, version 1.7*

Does not chime when phone is locked.

### 1/5 — Buggy - avoid

*2020-08-11, version 1.5*

Unusable as moving timers has a bug where when an exercise is moved it messes up the sequence of the other exercises.

### 2/5 — Awful bell sound

*2023-01-28, version 1.19*

The bell sound makes using the app almost unbearable

### 2/5 — Too big for its britches

*2022-10-10, version 1.13*

This app lets you set up a series of timed stages with metronome clicks. For the metronome feature, you must subscribe. I would gladly have bought the app, but this is not National Geographic.

### 2/5 — App gets stuck when screen is locked

*2022-02-24*

The timer doesn’t tick when the phone screen is locked. Only when screen is unlocked the bell rings. Kindly fix issue.

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks for your feedback! This issue has been fixed in a previous update. Now the timer works while the phone is locked or app is minimised.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great Timer

*2026-08-19*

I love how I can setup different exercise programs. It has exercises already programmed that can be populated to your needs or you can add your own to include breaks intervals.

### 5/5 — Closest app to what I want

*2026-05-14*

I am looking to use this for Pilates classes. I gave 5 stars because it’s the best I could find, but there are a couple of things that would make it even better. 1) I rely on haptics on my watch to signal me that the time for an exercise is up and the tiny little vibrations are just not enough. 2) It would be nice if the list view of exercises on the watch auto scrolled to the current timer. 3) If the app could force the watch to stay on while a timer is running that would be so helpful. When I put my wrist down and it goes dark the vibrations don’t happen at all.
I appreciate the ability to create workouts online (I wish the same colors as the app were available though). Overall it’s a nice app that seems to be stable and easy to use.

### 5/5 — Thank goodness

*2026-05-13*

I was looking for a good interval timer that was free and it took me a while. I literally gave up and found this from safari. It the only good free timer out there (that I have seen)

### 5/5 — Awesome!!

*2026-04-10, version 2.42*

I love it!

### 5/5 — Great Value without fluff

*2026-02-10*

Some would say you can’t do better than free, but you can. “Better than free” means free PLUS the app does what you want it to. There aren’t frills, there’s no constant advertising, it just does the job, which makes it my choice for Exercise Timer.

### 5/5 — Simple

*2025-11-18, version 2.37*

But customizable

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2025-09-09, version 2.37*

Best HIIT timer out there as it lets you name your exercises then calls them out as you do them

### 5/5 — Awesomeness!

*2025-07-08, version 2.36*

Love for XC!

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for!

*2025-06-30, version 1.35*

I tried dozens of apps while searching for this truly customizable with video timer. Use this app every day. Love it!!

### 5/5 — A very underrated app

*2025-02-06*

I’ve been using this for years and it’s a very great app. I created several workouts for myself and it has all the features I need.

Update: I've been using this app for at least 7 years. Best app.
